It appears as though the PlayStation Network is experiencing some turbulence tonight, as reports over the last couple of hours or so suggest that the service is struggling. Social features appear to be down, and some users are saying that they simply can't sign in. We can at least confirm that we can't access the PlayStation Store, and our friends list won't load -- but we are apparently signed in.
PlayStation's official support account on Twitter has acknowledged the issue, so hopefully it's all smoothed out soon.

Back on for me now.
Has anyone noticed that since Sony has announced cross platform play and name changes PSN has been less reliable?
Alright, itβs back for me. ππΎ
@NintendoFan4Lyf I said awhile ago that Sony maybe should look to creating a new network but the amount of cost and headache of ensuring that people's previous accounts carry over probably made it unlikely.
@adf86 @NintendoFan4Lyf Let's not forget that John Kodera has a background in online infrastructure at Sony. I think a lot's probably been going on behind the scenes with regards to PSN, and I imagine that's partly getting things up to speed for the introduction of the PS5.
Works perfectly for me. No issues recently.
the hamster that runs round in the wheel that powers there network been put on a zero hour contract so now sonic is back its all a ok
Microsoft been down this year.and they been out of touch.PlayStation did a mortal kombat on Xbox.fatalities.flawless victory.word up son
@NintendoFan4Lyf Oh yeah, it used to be rough to say the least.
Yeah I had some issues during Hitman but it was mostly online as far as I could tell, just a hiccup.
@adf86 No, because PSN goes down on a regular basis.
Also, 2011 says hello.
@Evil-C Yes thank you that was the joke
Still down for me. Good grief.
It's been down for upwards of 8 hours straight here, the only thing that hasn't gone down is the messaging feature...
@NintendoFan4Lyf That would blow furry chunks all over since usually legacy support for the last gen systems provides us with the best experiences of the entire previous generation during the first year or two of the new generation while usually the next gen system gets pretty lousy games during the same time-frame after the usually excellent launch lineup.
Edit: Except Nintendo which treats its previous generation like yesterday's garbage and tosses it aside at the very start of the new generation.
@adf86
Apparently XBL went down and even YouTube also went down. I don't think you can really blame Sony for this short hiccup.
With the firmware update as well, I'm guessing it was some back-end maintenance to do with the system-crashing message bug.
