Borderlands 3's Box Art Goes Biblical in Brilliant Fashion

Jesus Christ that box art looks great.

Might not win Game of the Year, but they’ve got Box Art of the Year locked down.

I like it. Hopefully, if the game gets a complete edition in the future, they don't clutter it with needless game scores and quotes from reviews.

Its certainly a great piece of artwork and I like the characters incorporated in the roses - subtle as I didn't notice until I saw the bigger picture of the cover.

I wonder how long before its 'changed' because of a group of people complaining - even if they had no intention of buying it anyway - there is bound to be someone that takes this artwork far too seriously!!

Yeah I can't see this being the final release cover. There's bound to be quite a few people who are cross with it and will most likely complain on Twitter.

@ApostateMage I’m not sure, those people are the sort that Borderlands would poke fun at so I think this is very much on purpose. They can sacrifice a few religious gamers for a wider appeal among the ones that watch South Park and the like.

Absolutely gorgeous. Man is it nice to see such a refreshing box art! Over the years it seems cover art get's more generic with every release. Games are a creative art-form and should be reflected on the box as such!

I didn't notice all the faces in the roses the first time. That box art is fantastic and fits perfectly the series lack of seriousness.

@ApostateMage Why not? Far Cry 5 did it. I sure hope they won't let a handful of angry people who might not even be interested in the game influence their decisions.

Does anyone feel like it has some Buddha themes and stuff to it too? It doesn’t feel like it’s entirely a Christian thing when I look ait it, as much I feel like it’s central religious figures in general. He has the robes, but the way they’re open isn’t very remincent of Christ to me, they remind more of Buddha, while the pose is more Christian.

@Jaz007 Definitely Christian in my eyes; Roman Catholic in fact. The grenade in the centre is laid out exactly as the Sacred Heart even with the thorns wrapped around it.

As a practicing Catholic I honestly don’t feel any animosity towards the cover. I can understand how some may see it as disrespectful but I see it kind of a parody making use of an artistic design; of which there have been many in many faiths over millennia. Definitely not mean spirited so you’d have to be pretty sensitive to find this troublesome, so no issues here. The staff’s pretty cool too.

Borderlands has never clicked with me; gave it a shot and the whole “loot & shoot” became dull over time so I dropped it in the end. Still I acknowledge it has quite a following and they’ve been looking forward to this.

I like it very much. The cover is both colorful and has a specific angle to it, in this case, the Messiah. As a devout Christian myself, I don't see any particular problem with this kind of thing. Quite the opposite, I find this unique and funny.

@FX102A Nice explanation, I thought it may have been more than one religion, but I may be wrong. I agree it doesn’t come across as disrespectful. I feel like there be a point of what phonies try to do in the games artistic side, or even misuse a good image when I look at this.

I like it aesthetically, but would have preferred them find a way for the psycho to aim three finger guns at himself

The Psycho is holding up 3 fingers because it is Borderlands 3. Clever

@Zukato I'm a non-Catholic Christian and this is a spoof of a classic Catholic icon of Jesus. I find it offensive either way. If I had any interest in the game (and I don't), I would not buy it on that basis.

@doctommaso sorry brother round our parts using jesus christ as power words rather than swearing or using horrible words is considered fine.
