We'll be completely honest here: this news simply passed us by. Splitgate, a free-to-play arena FPS with some Portal thrown in for good measure, is coming to PlayStation 4, and it's all happening this month. There's an open beta running right now — since last week, in fact — and the full game is set to launch on 27th July.
Again, the concept is essentially a sci-fi multiplayer shooter, only you can fire portals as well as bullets. As you can see in the video above, this affords you all sorts of opportunities; someone sniping you from up high? Fire one portal behind them, another on a wall near you, and shoot them point blank. It looks pretty crazy, and skilled players will find all sorts of amazing uses of portals in a game like this.
The game is proving to be pretty popular already, and it supports full cross-platform play — in other words, you're not going to be short of people to play with. There doesn't seem to be an end date for the open beta; it seems to just roll into the full release on the 27th. That makes sense, because if you download the beta client, it's about 27GB, which is surely just the full game.
We're definitely curious to take this for a spin. Will you be mixing portals with firearms in Splitgate on PS4? Reload in the comments section below.

This looks so plain and boring from the design point of view. Meh.
I've been playing this for the last week. Its quite slow to be honest but its not bad. Alot of modes to play id give it a 7.
This has Unreal Tournament vibes (which is great) and the added portal mechanics could be fantastic, or terrible depending on how well it is implemented.
That's another free-to-play I'll try in the coming months (that and Hunter's Arena : Legends. Probably won't end up playing them, but they look interesting enough to try.
It's so depressing that every other article latley has been about 'free to play'...Looks like I will get through my backlog one day as there won't be any games to buy and just play.
@Iroha Does this look like something you would buy and play if it wasn't free?
It's worth a punt, some of the portal mechanics look promising.
its Halo like mutliplayer. its pretty good me and my mates have been playing it
I recommend giving it a go. It feels like unreal tournament crossed with portal. I like it. Not sure of its longevity but with cross play it has a lot of potential.
I tried it over the weekend. It's literally cheap asset-rip Halo, but with Portals.
And not as bad as that sounds.
@Logonogo Not really no. My comment was more about all the 'free to play' news lately. That's all. I'm not a fan of the monetization model in those types of games.
