Sony’s already combated Google Stadia by significantly dropping the price of PlayStation Now and adding tentpole titles like God of War and Grand Theft Auto V, but the platform holder’s also eager to point out that you can play PlayStation 4 around the house using Remote Play.
The manufacturer recently upgraded this feature, of course, adding support for the DualShock 4 in both Android and iOS. Expect the organisation to continue its efforts in this area well into the PlayStation 5 generation and beyond, as it attempts to make its console more convenient to use.

this is another thing i don't get about Stadia, people are saying "you can play anywhere" well you can already do that with PS4 and soon with XB1 and that doesn't cost £9 a month either
I've been giving this a go at workd streaming from my PS4 and it seems to work rather well, at least as good as the Xbox streaming I've tried
The whole Play Anywhere idea of Stadia, EA's upcoming service...is already being done.
Switch, PS Remote Play, xCloud...and the play anywhere factors aren't there as the only feature. They are part of a package
What a pure streaming platform gives is less overall compared to all the other platforms letting you play anywhere in different ways as a supplement
While ive always been bullish on streaming and was looking forward to Stadia, I don't think there's a way that this'll succeed. I've tried all of them Remote play, ps now, Xcloud, EA and Ubisofts. They've made so many mistakes out of the gate I don't think it's possible for them to bounce back. Xcloud and remote play both work superbly well though!
Playing Horizon on my phone actually works a whole lot better than I thought it would. Still, probably better for RPGs such as Persona 5.
From what I've been hearing, they didn't need to bother. From Teraflops to Terrible Flop.
@nessisonett RemotePlay made finishing P5 a lot easier. The family room TV is not always free... or I just want to play in bed.
Trails of Cold Steel 3 is also perfect for it.
Funny that they show the Vita in the video but do not mention it. Remote Play is a great feature IMHO I still use it a lot.
I have made use of this a few times when the wife is using the main TV. It works pretty well without much in the way of lag. I normally use my computer and monitor, but have tested it out on iPad as well.
Nice to see them push it a bit. It's still a bit of a swizz THAT of the phones, only older Xperias and new Android (and IOS) running the latest version can use it and connect DS4s natively.
I recon that's very much Google's doing.
I tried remote play with Spiderman via my mobile which is a huawei P20 Pro, and I actually got a little bit of lag when pressing the button to jump
@BarefootBowser Some games released by Sony (like DriveClub and others) in the early PS4 days included PS Vita Remote Play custom controls pre-installed.
There is "direct connection" mode in the Vita - PS4 Remote Play that emulates how the Wii U works and it is lag free. I used it to grind in FF15 for hours.
I said it on another thread, but having played Sonic Adventure 2 on Now recently I can see streaming being a method for me to enjoy older games that I have no other access to, where visual clarity can take a little bit of a hit and it not really matter. I don’t see me playing my AAA new releases via streaming for a good while yet, although it is ultimately the way it’s likely to go IMO.
But yeah, great way to dip your toe into some old favourites for an hour or so without any fuss.
@kyleforrester87 Totally yeah, I agree about older games, playing Sonic CD through Now was great, considering it’s a lost gem/chaos emerald. I hope they add more PS1 and PS2 games because it’s a great way to get around compatibility issues.
I once had the horrible idea of playing Smite through remote play. Our team won but wow that was an... interesting experience.
I've also played MHW on remote play and as long as you change the controls adequately it actually was quite fine. Then again I played MH freedom unite back in the day so maybe I already had some experience.
@FullbringIchigo You do realise no one can spend that £9/month you're talking about at the moment, right? The first three months are reserved for the founders, and after that, you can choose to use Stadia FOR FREE, or as you said, pay £9/month to get free games.
Simple
I play ESO on my iPad while I’m at work. It works great with a good connection. But we’ll see what Stadia can do...
Stadia is simply a really bad idea. When Sony, Nintendo and MS are all doing some form of 'play anywhere' idea but much better, I just don't see where this fits in. It's not shocking Google wants in on the game market, but it's going about things the wrong way.
Picks up phone.
Dials number
"Hello, Police? Yes, I'd like to report shots fired."
So i can play stadia anywhere??? Like even somewhere with no wifi??
Finally ds4 and android support. Sony wasted so much time having this feature as a xperia and then ios exclusive that I stopped caring over the years.
I remain very unsure about this stadia thingy. The marketing is too good not to raise any suspicions. I’ll wait for reviews. I assume you guys will keep reporting on it even if it’s not PlayStation related? I wouldn’t mind either way, really.
@Alteffo the point was that both console already offer this feature FOR FREE so Stadia is a service that doesn't need to exist, yes a free version of Stadia is coming but that still doesn't discount they are also doing a paid version
@FullbringIchigo a console you PAY $300-500 for gives you that feature for free?? Tell me more kid.
@Alteffo and i'm sure google is sending Stadia controllers and boxes to everyone for free
.....OH WAIT!
also i notice you only made your account this morning and all your posts have been to argue with me so i'm just gonna take it you're a troll looking for trouble and not interact with you anymore
good day
The acess is staggered release to avoid bottlenecking.
The service is exceptionally good and not remotely laggy.
Remote play is piped connection from YOUR PS4 on YOUR internet upload to wherever you are connecting.
The results are patchy at best. Even when im sitting on the sofa with an ipad infront of the TV.
The Stadia launch is slow, yes, but going well... we were told we would get invitations in order. Save for a small early mishap of their own admission we have been getting just that. Unsurprisingly the hordes of haters are on the case with extreme alacrity... what an entirely unsurprising turn of event.
When the next gen titles come rolling in and you cant find the £700 or more just to get a bundle deal to even get started... Perhaps a FREE membership, your old DS4 on a USB and some old laptop for a screen will suddenly seem terribly attractive...
You'll see a game, buy it, and play it. No further cost.
See you next year haters.
@Real_Obsi perhaps it will but until most countries get a good enough internet infrastructure to support it properly it's still going to be no good to a vast majority of people
plus i'm still not down with the fact your still paying full price for a game that you no have absolutely no control over, a game that the publisher can take away at any moment and you lose forever
at least with buying a game either physically or digitally on something like the PS4 even if they remove it from sale you still have the game
now don't get me wrong because of my negative posts because i actually think a streaming service could work but i just don't think we have the tech for it right now, plus it's Google and they have a LONG history of just killing things off that doesn't utterly destroy it's competition within it first 6 months and as such you can't even be sure they will still be supporting it by this time next year
if it's still around in a few years then yeah i'll take a look but given googles track record i aint touching it until i'm sure it's sticking around
check out the paid to hype Google Stadia people 🤣 🤣 the service will be dead within 2 years.
@tameshiyaku been on Andriod for a long time IOS is the new one.
@FullbringIchigo well then how about encouraging it instead of being such raging cynics.. good god
@Real_Obsi because i don't want to encourage gamers losing all control over where, how and when they can play their games
Paranoid nonsense.
@Cloud7794 if you're remote playing using the Vita, set up a second account on your ps4, then reset your vita and associate it with the second account. Then when you load up a game on your ps4 using your original account you can use remote play on the vita to view the game and continue to use your ds4. I got myself a phone holder for my ds4 big enough to hold my vita and it changed my gaming life, I couldn't stand using remote play with the vita's buttons. One thing however is that the screen on the vita goes dark after a while as the second account isn't being used, but I get around that by sticking a bit of blu-tac under the right stick to keep it pointing upwards. I get a mostly flawless experience when I've got my ps4 wired to the ethernet switch in my living room. When I put on some decent headphones it's a brilliant way to play games when I can't use the television.
@Alteffo actually i didn't know that. Me and many others still think that we're gonna have to pay for the subscription fee on top of buying our games, even for the base service. I just realized it's going to be free after googling about it 5 seconds ago.
This just shows how bad google are on formulating and marketing their products. If it's going to be free at some point, THAT'S what they should be advertising like crazy. Instead, they're shoving us images of limited blue controllers and different kind of price plans. Those are what stuck on my mind after seeing their presentation. I didn't even realize it'll be free in the future.
You know in gaming, everything needs to be crystal clear. Wiiu bombed because of bad naming, steam machines bombed because they're confusing, i still remember the whole fiasco when ps4pro got released people was confused as hell. People still can't decide getting a switch or a switch lite to this day.
If the service itself is really free, i could see some ways that it might work. Buying just the games is indeed cheaper than buying the games and a console. But google have a lot of campaigning to do to make it happen.
Google Stadia has already flopped as expected lol. How come PushSquare didn't write about it since they seem to cover Stadia too?
It hasn't flopped in the slightest.
Everyone who bought and payed for founders editions is on.
It's pretty god damn flipping flawless.
Glad I helped start it up to be honest.
You can all enjoy it for free using your dear treasured dual shocks in a month or two. Really, I'd settle down and just read between the anti hype if I were you. It's all been a giant childish storm in a tea cup.
@Knuckles-Fajita Google Stadia pay more get less. 😋
