Death Stranding is out now, but how many of you are playing it this weekend? It's the biggest PlayStation 4 exclusive of the holidays, but is it on your radar or do your interests lie elsewhere? This is what we're playing this weekend.
Robert Ramsey, Deputy Editor
I look forward to a relatively relaxing weekend as I take a walk through Death Stranding. Here's the thing: I love just walking about in open world games and taking in the atmosphere. Could be that Death Stranding's made for weirdos like me. We'll soon see.
Stephen Tailby, Associate Editor
While everyone will undoubtedly be helping Sam reconnect America in Death Stranding, I'll be playing something completely different. I'm hitting the mean streets of Palm City in Need for Speed Heat this weekend. A review will follow in due course.
Liam Croft, Senior Staff Writer
I'm one of the very few people that won't be playing Death Stranding this weekend. Having beaten the game more than two weeks ago for review, I'm in the rather unique situation of being done with it. Instead, I'll be checking out Valfaris and Terminator: Resistance for review.
Jamie O'Neill, Reviewer
I'm visiting family in Edinburgh, but I've already checked out my cousin's PS Vita collection, and I'll happily play some handheld races of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
Christian Kobza, Contributor
I finished playing through The Outer Worlds and the Modern Warfare campaign just in time for Death Stranding's release. It's safe to say I'll be spending the entirety of my weekend pouring hours into Kojima's latest fever dream.
Will you be walking through the wilderness in Death Stranding this weekend, then? Or are you sick to death of hearing about Kojima's latest? Let us know in the comments section below.

Got the next two weeks off work and I'm finally going on my first holiday in 12 years. So before that I'm cleaning some of my back log and hilariously trolling people in the outer worlds. ππππππ
Death Stranding once i get back home again, great game so far!
Playing medievil and downloading patch for death stranding
About to finish up the The Outer Worlds and still grinding a bit in Monster Hunter World.
I'm about 5 or 6 hours into Death Stranding and I've loved every second of it so far, it has an almost BOTW style approach to the open world and its incredibly refreshing to play one of these where the journey is as important if not more so than the destination. Also I'm intrigued by how we all can effect its world by playing with some well trodden paths already appearing in some places and I can't wait to see more
Death Stranding for me. I'm a few hours in and absolutely adoring it so far.
Almost at the end of my speedrun NG+ of HZD and I must say the story is really getting to me this time round. I think the story can easily be overlooked because the touching parts are mostly those holographic playbacks. Would have been more emotional if they were actual cutscenes portraying emotions and body language.
Then it's constantly antagonizing Micah and Uncle at camp, still discovering new horses in RDR2. Plus continuing tournaments in FIFA 20. I must say Volta is hard and can be annoying even on Professional difficulty.
And I say Death Stranding is taking all the divisive critiques, mixed opinions and bashings on behalf of MGSV. Critics be like; I think we kinda overrated MGSV a bit.. let's be brutally honest on DS.
Since my cousin will be over for the weekend helping me take care of the farm, we'll be dabbling into a bunch of multiplayer and VR games.
I have Death Stranding installed ready to go but trying to hold off starting it until I finish what Iβm currently playing. The problem is Iβm still playing AC Odyssey, was hoping to at least get the story done in time but nope.
Maybe by next weekend.
Death Stranding. Absolute quality. Iβm about 6 hours in and I have to say that so far Iβm really enjoying it. An intriguing story and definitely unique.
Itβs really refreshing to have a new experience and something a little bit different. Bravo!
It's the final weekend of the witches festival in elder scrolls online so will continue with that before I boot up death stranding on monday
American Truck Simulator, exploring Utah.
Iβll think Iβll finally start on Zero Dawn. And Iβll get on some Street Fighter V and Samurai Shodown.
Just finished up Spider-Man. Still deciding on what to play next between Death Stranding, or waiting to see how Jedi Fallen Order turns out. Will probably play some Uncharted 4 multiplayer in the meantime.
Have a great weekend everyone
@TheArt 100% agree the story of Horizon is very underrated and is up there with the best this generation
Iβm playing death stranding, outer worlds and outer wilds but death stranding is really hooking me right now itβs such a unique and frankly astonishing game
Death Strandingβs just opened up into the proper open-world. Bit of a slow start but thatβs to be expected with the mental plot. Love how relaxing it is. Also playing Destiny 2 as always, Nioh which is absolutely brilliant and finishing up Kingdom Hearts 3, which is absolutely mediocre.
Borderlands 3, Outer Worlds, Divinity Original Sin 2. Why can't I just finish a game before I buy a new one??? π
Hi, Alex Hawthorne here. I'll be continuing my supernova playthrough of The Outer Worlds. The enemies are quite tough in this difficulty so I'm having to use strategy more rather than just going in all guns blazing. I gave Ellie a plasma launcher and she's kicking arse like a glass cannon.
The absolutely sublime Death Stranding.
Well more Switcher 3 for me I think, possibly going to start Outer Worlds and might also continue my one/off play through of God of War: Ascension on PS3.
@kyleforrester87 Oh man.. Christmas hat avatars already? The horror.
Dark Souls. I think I'm getting close to the end! (Which for me means I probably have 15 more hours to go π€£)
I think Iβm close to finishing Valkyria Chronicles 4. Not sure if Iβll stick around to grind trophies and do post-game content or not, Iβm undecided.
Iβll play a little The Last Guardian as well. And then Iβll possibly start Assassinβs Creed Origins finally depending on how things go.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Doom 2016 in between
South Park: The Fractured But Whole (Switch) - I have to take Mitch McConnell down.
FIFA 15 Ultimate Team (Windows Phone) - Still more quick games.
3D Brick Breaker Revolution (Windows Phone) - A decent enough Arkanoid clone.
@Rudy_Manchego I saw the Coke advert and I got some mince pies today so.. yup, itβs that time π
I'm playing Shenmue II, so I can roll right into III later this month.
Glad to hear that most that are playing Death Stranding are enjoying it so far. I'm almost certain to play it at some point.
Still on my Odyssey, it's a relaxing game at times especially when you travel along the high seas visiting island by island.
Sooo big though, God knows when I'll be done with it!
Like @KratosMD above I'll also be spending a decent amount of time with the Trails Of Cold Steel series although I'm still 40 hours into Cold Steel 2 rather than 3...fantastic series!
Also Bob the Builder is still not done so it's back to Dragon Quest Builders 2 I go
On the Switch I'll be busy with Fire Emblem Three Houses which is absolutely great!Bought the season pass for some reason despite only being ten hours in..
Probably Outer Worlds and Dishonored.
@TheArt You know what impresses me most about HZD's story is how there's an explanation for everything.
Why are there machines?
Why are some different?
How come real animals exist?
Why are some tribes more advanced?
It's all there, you just have to find it.
Playing Anthem and despite all its loading screens and flaws I'm really enjoying it. Oh Norman Reedus just delivered a pizza cool now I can eat pizza while watching the loading screens. ππ
A mix of Death Stranding, Afterparty & Red Dead on PC
Iβm currently playing Control. Holy hell, this game is a masterpiece. Along with that, itβs arguably the most stylish game Iβve ever played.
@AdamNovice True, and the finding it is what gets the story overlooked. Some gamers don't have the time to listen to audio logs or watch those holographics. Just maybe cinematics would have grabbed more attention.
Just finishing off the hilarious Bulletstorm, canβt believe I didnβt play this back on PS3. Also, playing through Aggelos and once that is complete, hopefully move onto a big open world game. Maybe Witcher 3 or ME Andromeda.
a bit of Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2 and Skies of Arcadia Legends for me
Played the prologue and chapter 1 of death stranding, bonkers but really interesting! The game is a bit of a looker! The graphics on my base ps4 and 1080 plasma are sensational
Lots of Witcher 3 Wild Hunt and Monster Hunter World Iceborne for me. I've played very little of Witcher 3 in the last couple of weeks, so I want to get back to it. With Monster Hunter, I've got a bit stuck at a tricky monster, so I'm going to craft a brand new hammer before trying it again.
Death Stranding. I'm liking it so far.
Borderlands 3 on my 2nd character, Need for Speed Heat which I like so far (reminds me of underground and carbon).
I am thinking about an immersive sim, maybe Bioshock Collection, maybe Disonhored 2... Have to choose one.
I've actually been on PS Now playing the Sly Cooper Collection lately.
Death Stranding for me, just finished ni no kuni in time.
@FullbringIchigo Skies of Arcadia Legends is so damn good. Although last playthrough I just saved all my money until endgame and bought those damage stat-boosting items and applied them to Vyse until he was an unstoppable monster.
Carrying on with 'The Outer Worlds', superb game so far, not far off completion then will do it all again in a different role. GOTY ?
Started playing 'Control' too ..what a game! Interesting to see where it goes
Will also play Modern Warfare multiplayer
Really need to play Death Stranding but gonna clear Control and Outer Worlds first or I'll leave them !!
@nessisonett well if it works, why not
Death Stranding, Medievil, and NHL 20.
Death Stranding by far. Itβs been amazing so far, and I havenβt even gotten to the βgoodβ stuff. I may squeeze in some Persona 5 as well. Loving that game too. So happy with my PlayStation!
Finally got round to playing days gone and it's better than I expected given the reviews, well so far anyway.
Playing Death Stranding and absolutely loving it so far. Im playing on Hard and the encounters with the BTs can get very intense. Just got through the very long chapter 2 and at this point I think the controls are finally feeling like second nature to me. There were a lot of mechanics at first that I had to get used to.
Iβm really enjoying reading the emails and interviews, they provide a great amount of backstory and details about the lore of Death Stranding.
@playstation1995 Go Steelers! As for me, Death Stranding, Luigi's Mansion 3, Astral Chain, and Code Vein NG+ are my weekend!
Finishing up on my Uncharted 1-4 playthrough (currently in the middle of U4) and will be moving to AC Odyssey which I picked up at the weekend sale. Enjoy Death Stranding guys! I will buy it at a discount later down the line as I'm not convinced it's my cup of tea.
@weR1youR2Podcast oh yeah lets go Pittsburgh Steelers word. Up son
Death stranding, probably around 10 hrs in. I adore this world that kojima has created feels like a dream. I love preparing for a journey looking at the map deciding what to bring based on the landscape that I will tackle it's just an amazing breath of fresh air this.
Valfaris and Stay Cool Kobayashi!!!
@Paranoimia
I ve wanted to get that Truck game. Do you recommend it? Is it worth the price?
Death Stranding. About 5 hours in. Loving it. The soundtrack is amazing. The game is all I can think about all day at the moment.
@Powerpellet American Truck Simulator is on sale on Steam at the moment, only Β£3.74. Euro Truck Simulator 2 is under Β£15. Demos are also available.
Personally, I love them. Very relaxing to play, and a welcome change of pace to the things I usually play. It's simple, repetitive to a point, and yet never the same. I'd recommend them, but try the demo if you're uncertain.
@Arugula Ohhh i am enjoying it. Have you started it yet? Choose a build where you can use guns. There are tres OP in this game but fun as hell.
@playstation1995 Yay for Darkest Dungeon. It is soooo good.
@BearsEatBeets I feel your pain. I wanted to plat it. I only have a few more trophies to go but got distracted with other things, now I'm scared to back because I know I will have forgotten how to combat.
So I got addicted to MLBtheShow19 last month. (I don't even know WHY I downloaded it off of PS PLUS) and i'm still playing it. Non Stop. Every Night.
However, getting Death Stranding on Monday so I will see what all the fuss is about then.
@kiki3400. Oh yeah its a amazing game.word up son
Borderlands Pre Sequel - work on all trophies I can get in my first playthrough and return to Spyro 3
@Arugula Yay! I'm loving it. Graphics can be a bit janky at times but it's a great game, I think. It got unfairly raked in reviews.
1. Death Standing
2. Cold Steel 3
3. Luigi's Mansion 3
Same as last week, Luigi's Mansion 3. Didn't get as far as I wanted last weekend, trying to make up for that.
Im.halfway the Evil Within 2 to which I started last weekend. Hopefully I can finish in time to get Jedi fallen order.
AC: Odyssey. 80 Hours in. About 75% of main story done. Likewise for the side quests and the visited regions. It's a grind, but a good grind. Now I actively look for trouble in order to get mercenaries on my tail. So much fun to ambush them.
Iβm hooked! Itβs death stranding all the way!!!!!!
Assassin's Creed 2 and new Grand Prix in Crash Team Racing for me this weekend.
Death Stranding. I posted this in the review section.

Alot of people are way off on this game. Those who have not played it don't know how off they are lol. I see why PSU gave it a 10. The game is magical. If course it will not appeal to everyone.
This is a visionary work like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus or Blade Runner. This is what gaming is supposed to be and what gaming needs.
I am sick of people crying about the lack of creativity or risks from AAA companies and wheb they finally get one and an amazing game to boot they cry about it not being what they are used to.
Simply put, Death Stranding is the game we need but don't deserve. Its like playing a game for the first time again. Hell your feet can bleed because your shoes degrade.
Physics are actually being used to make the world chalkenging. Its like 4D, which is the only way I can describe it. People won't appreciate it til later like the style of King's Field when Dark Souls came out.
If I where to choose a game to show to someone who does not play video games, I would show them Death Stranding. The guy has a baby strapped to his chest for Pet's sake lol.
Death Stranding defines what video games are or should be, an in depth interscrive and immersive experience.
This game is what makes video games as a medium special. It looks great, plays great and sounds great to boot with a great concept and interesting characters.
In my 30 years of playing video games I can ssy that Death Stranding is one of the best experiences I have had. Its like when I first played Super Mario Bros 3, but much better due to the technology. Well done Sony and Kojima Productions.
One last thing. No micros, no loot boxes, no GaaS, no broken games, no forced MP. Just a master class of game design, gameplay, directing, story telling and great performance.
Most people are not going to appreciate what this game means to the medium."
Finishing up a small game I borrowed from a friend, The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince.
Started evil within last week and even though itβs a fun game, the theme is a bit too depressing for me. As I still wanted to play a horror game, I have instead started playing resident evil 4 on PS4. Good game but hard getting used to not being able to move and shoot at same time.
I also picked up shadow tactics brand new for Β£10. I would recommend it to any strategy fans, great fun.
Gloomhaven and reading Warbreaker, no video games this weekend.
Game Dev Story on Android...didn't bring anything to game on but my phone this vacation
I recently finished Celeste, and have developed a taste for pain. So am now revisiting The End is Nigh. Quite an intricate design for how simple the controls are. Very nice music too.
