When we heard that Shenmue III would be getting multiple pieces of DLC after its November 2019 launch, this isn't exactly what we had in mind. The game's first slice of downloadable content comes to PlayStation 4 next week on Tuesday 21st January, and it literally has protagonist Ryo Hazuki competing in races.
Announced on Twitter, the Battle Rally expansion consists of various races across China with different lengths of track used to switch up gameplay. The DLC "offers fresh gaming activities in a race unlike any other, as contestants engage in head-to-head battles whilst racing their way through the course", claims publisher Koch Media. You'll be able to fill the shoes of Ryo Hazuki or change lanes and control either Wuying Ren or Wei Zhen. Weird, right? We're sure Push Square editor Sammy Barker is still hyped, however.
Will you be taking part in his bizarre slice of Shenmue III DLC? Win a medal in the comments below.

This sounds bizarrely brilliant. Can't wait.
Welcome to the fantasy zone...Get Ready!
This sounds amazing, but really quite odd.
Your darn subheading beat me to it!
Free update or paid?
Brilliant. Can't wait.
Seen it'll be around £6 which is pretty decent. I'll definitely get it but probably gonna wait for the first discount. I'm still enjoying the main game.
It is a great addition to an allready Great game.
Im guessing those of us that purchased the version with the post expansion stuff,this will be free. Was hoping the 1st piece of dlc was the casino boat.
I am near the end of the main game and I definitely want to spend more time with Ryo & C...so yeah I’ll try this! Will this be integrated in the main game or is a separate mode?
@Nyne11Tyme paid.
imo it's a odd take to add something to the game like this, player vs player with racing added on top, this is something I wouldn't be interested in really.
@huyi thanks. Well the Shenmue games are anything but ordinary lol
I'm in already! Let's get sweaty!
Stay bonkers, Japanese games. I love thee.
