It’s interesting to consider how the PlayStation 5 will look in stores, because Sony hasn’t revealed a whole lot about the upcoming console’s branding – beyond its record-breaking logo, of course. This mock-up by Italian graphic artist Giuseppe Spinelli, as published by Let’s Go Digital, is fascinating, then: it opts for a black box with glossy symbols embossed on top.
We reckon this design is being a little optimistic when it touts 8K HDR, but we could certainly see something like this on shop shelves around the world. Does the system’s box art matter to you? Which colour will the manufacturer build its branding around? Put a couple of these in your shopping cart in the comments section below.

I like the black box design but would they break away from their blue for a standard console launch?
Either way I am looking forward to picking this up when it finally does hit the stores.
Looks nice, I like the black box.
I also like the black box but I feel like the blue stands out more.

👀
Are we talking about the box? 🙄🙄Who cares tbh.
I do actually like the console pictured though, but standing flat.
Ah... I remember being able to go to stores. That was so nice.
What can I do with this article?
I can make a hat, or a broach...
Slow news day, eh?
@Th3solution yeah me too. Man I could even go for 15 minutes in a CeX right now.
I want WHITE PS5 Slim in the future. 😀
My PS2 Slim Japan, PS3 Slim and PS4 Slim are ALL White color.
#whiteconsoles 🤟
Won't matter to me. The only local store that still sells stuff like this where I live is Argos, and they always keep everything upstairs out if the way. All my dedicated game stores disappeared years ago.
I really hope they bring back the coloured logo or a nice startup that is a nod to the original considering this year is 25 years of PlayStation in Europe.
Definitely a day one buy for me though. I have faith that PlayStation will continue to be where it's at for the best games. So long as their PC porting fascination dies down a bit anyway.
@Anti-Matter
I bought the White PS4Pro Destiny bundle at launch. Like me some white consoles too.
My favourite though is the Silver PS2 Slim.
This is just ps4 pro 😕
Not so many of changes but it's still good looking...
The Hype is killing me...
@rjejr +1 for the Airplane! clip.
I'd love the ps5 to have the Sony gold diamond and ps logo before it loads games as a 25 year proper celebration to the console since 1995. The theme they did for the PS4 was good and all but I wish it would have the same PS1 start up and that's no more music but it does
@get2sammyb
Nice follow-up on the PS5 tech presentation from your sister site and DF:

Still say the ps5 casing will adopt a similar design to the new Xbox regardless of how the ps5 dev kit looks,the series X dev kit is massively different to the console they have been showing off
@teknium_
Oh God, I hope not. The XSX design would never work in my living room. Hopefully the PS5 maintains a PS/PS2/PS3/PS4 form factor that actually works with typical entertainment area designs.
We don't know what the console looks like, but people already design boxes?
I don't know about 8K being 'optimistic', but he's definitely being so if he thinks it'll be that thin.
This just in..
Your receipt will be white with black lettering. With a Times-Roman font. Plan accordingly.
@beavis64 its fair to say that every day of late feels a bit slow in my house.
The box is COOL Hopefully the PS5 won't look as dull as the new Xbox(whatever it's called) I like the look of the PS5 Dev-kit if it was more sleeker and in black it would look cool
Until I gaze upon the design that Sony releases I am not getting my hopes up.
It looks terrible. Dont like this box. Sorry. Good skill on it but it doesn't look very cool at all.
I want to know how the console itself looks. I'm really sick of every single electronic device over the last like, 15+ years, being a black rectangular box.
Why is having other colors or any sort of design so unpopular anymore?
@ApostateMage These days the whole world feels like an Airplane movie called "Pandemic!". I've been posting this clip a lot lately.
@Heavyarms55 Here ya go.
@rjejr Yeah, that's a nice one and a special edition. And I like special editions. But they sell out about an hour before they release. I'm talking base models. Remember the Gamecube? They released that in Purple, black, orange, and silver at least. The original Xbox had a few different colors too.
These days consoles get special editions, but by default generally only come as simple black rectangles. Not just consoles either, most phones are just black rectangles with a logo too.
Why not at least have a couple color options? How about white, blue, grey, or even red or green? That would be simple for them to do.
But going further, how about some design to it? Look at the new Xbox, it's just a box with a tiny logo and a disk drive. It's like they went to their design department as said "Make me the most bland, most simple most boring design you can possible think of."
I'm really hoping Sony delivers something that looks interesting.
I'm glad the Switch has so many joycon colors. I have 4 sets and swap them around regularly. But the console and dock are still back rectangles....
Stop feeding these guys.
@kyleforrester87
Providing you don't inhale. I have no clue why so many of their stores stink like BO, cheese and toe-jam ass 🤢🤮.
@teknium_
No doubt it will be different, but it's Sony; obviously they won't spend as much time as Xbox did with their "radical design"- which is to say significantly more than 2 seconds to come up with " h oW A b oU T A cU b 0 i D?". Regardless of the tech going inside the xbox one 'series x' (still a stupid name), the design is basic af and just horrible.
@Paranoimia
Technically it's possible if it's surface area is increased, and it would technically help with heat dissipation by making it physically bigger but thinner a la ps4 slim over vanilla ps4. Hopefully thermals are considered, but a slightly bigger design dimensionally over the ps4 pro design is technically possible, providing we can actually fit the things under a TV unit out the way, not that I'd want to hide it assuming the design team aren't completely inept- something Xbox missed the mark on with an obnoxious cuboid shape and just a little flawed thermal design. I mean, not to go on a tangent, but if somehow you do manage to fit a series x under a TV unit it's gonna be blocked with the exhaust and intake fan both facing the walls of a TV unit shelf divider.
@Zachary_98 watching the DF tear down video of series x the design works brilliantly well and cooling shouldn't be an issue...not sure how Sony would keep things cool with a traditional console design...ps5 day one here by the way but Sony lack of ps5 news(apart mark cerny telling us we might be able to send pics of ears to Sony)is a bit concerning but I guess they will show all when they are good and ready.
I just hope it will look like a premium electronics equipment that I wont be embarrassed to have on a display in the living room, not like one of those futuristic gaming PC cases.
That looks an awful lot like the PS4 Pro...
If that's going to be the PS5 then Sony might as well put a Teflon coating on the top of it so I can cook some burgers while I'm gaming.. No way is that thin design going to keep those overclocked components cool..
@Heavyarms55 We got the Mario Odyssey bundle Switch with the red Joycon but yeah, dock and Switch are still block. Then I bought a blue pair of Joycon. But I mostly use a black wired controller b/c the drift is real.
Sony should make the PS5 Sony blue. Or Playstation blue. You know the one I mean. That would be cool. Then they could sell black cover boxes for the people who are embarrassed by the blue.
I can't imagine Xbox not being black.
Nintendo does have some nice colored Lites but handheld always fair better than home consoles I guess.
It doesn't matter what color our phones or tablets are, I get cases for all of them. Sometimes black cases. 😅
@rjejr It's not that there are 0 options. Clearly there are some. But far and few between. Xbox had a few translucent color consoles back in the day. I've seen green, orange and purple. And I always associate green as the Xbox color personally. I think a black console with some green detailing would look cool.
And a Playstation Blue or even just black and blue (or grey and blue) would be real nice.
@Heavyarms55 I'm not a fan of the PS1 gray even though I still own mine, too matte. If they want to make it "battleship gray" but out of metal like a real battleship I probably wouldn't object to it being shiny. 😎
@rjejr I could see that. Like a dark metallic grey?
In the end though - I just want there to be a couple options to choose from. How hard could it be to have 3 or 4 different colors?
@Heavyarms55 I would guess mass producing 10-20 million consoles for launch day requires them choosing 1 color and model for cost savings.
Wii U had white & black but nobody bought white b/c $299 for 8GB of storage was too ridiculous and nobody bought black b/c $349 for the Nintendo Land game was too expensive. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.
So early adopters get stuck w/ black, but those of us who wait should get to choose a color.
@rjejr Yeah but that was because the color difference was tied to the storage issue. Had they just sold a black and white version of the same product, I imagine the numbers would have been much more even.
And yeah, I'm sure it does cost a bit more to have a couple color options. But I really find it hard to believe it would be a major cost. In the end it's the same shell, but you have one machine making one color and another machine making the other color, instead of two machines making only one color.
