If you've been thinking of picking up digital versions of Danganronpa titles, particularly on PlayStation Vita, you'll want to act sooner rather than later. Publisher NIS America has announced that multiple entries in the visual novel franchise will be taken off the PlayStation Store in September without any obvious reason why.
The first of which will actually take place on 31st August 2020 when Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls will no longer be purchasable on PS Vita. As for Sony's second handheld system, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair will also be taken off the store on 4th September 2020. Meanwhile, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is losing its digital version on both PS Vita and PlayStation 4 from 25th September 2020.
It doesn't look like the Danganronpa 1&2 Reload remaster has been affected by this, but the thinking from fans is that these titles will be republished by Spike Chunsoft itself. So they may go away for a little bit, but this probably doesn't mean the end to digital copies of Danganronpa games completely. However, making a move now will guarantee you access them.

Is the OG Daganronpa ( the one that has no localization ) on the PSP is created and published by Spike correct me if I am wrong
I Have Physical Copy's Of These Games So I'am Good To Go.
As well as them being about 2/3 of the price of digital, this is the main reason I usually buy physical and will be buying the disc version of the PS5.
@Matroska Yeah, good idea, especially now that I've see the closure of several online stores for "dead" consoles, it seems like physical is the way to go just in case the next step is "download the game now because we're removing it from the server!"
Of course, the next issue is that lots of games require you to be online to play or have a massive day one patch that's needed to make the game even playable.
Anyway...as for this article...LAAAAME. I haven't finished the second game, so I didn't pick up Ultra Despair Girls or 3 yet, so guess I'll have to do that soon. Too bad Vita games are never, EVER on sale these days. I've also noticed that physical versions of Vita games that were once in abundance for $10 easily online are now up to $40 or $60 so...great.
Looks like I’ll have to get UDG sooner rather than later then.
But what about the digital future?
This is why i always buy physical games !!!
FWIW they're all on steam and would probably run on a potato, but they feel way more at home on Vita. Great series.
Are they bought and exclusive somewhere else?
I don't get it, spike chunsoft has a huge following on PlayStation...
I already have reload 1 & 2, I didn't have the third game though.
Yikes. I really want to get v3 physically but if I can't get it in time and have to go digital now there's a chance I might miss it too...
Hopefully they do get put back on the store later
@turntSNACO As is the usual when it comes to delistings, don't be surprised to see these vanish from Steam.
Considering that I already have all 4 titles on PS4, I'm in the clear of this. Fantastic games and I highly recommend playing them.
@stinkyx All of those "closed" shops still allow you to redownload previous purchases. For example I can still redownload previously purchased WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console games on the Wii Shop Channel despite it having "closed" a year or two ago.
1) They'll likely be republished by Spike Chunsoft after removal
2) If you purchased the licenses, you should still be able to redownload them from PSN. Cyber Sleuth was delisted ages ago, but it's still readily available to me.
Just an FYI for all the digital game doomers who crop up whenever something is delisted.
@Matroska i don't know what kind of people would buy the digital only PS5. I don't understand either why people are settling for a crappy PS4 lite instead of a PS4 pro to save 100 quids when they buy £3000 worth of games within its lifetime
@Link41x The Steam versions are self published by Spike Chunsoft. Considering the main assumption is that they'll be republishing these games without NISA, I don't think they'll disappear if that is the case. There's nothing suggesting they will he delisted there.
I'm glad to see someone point out that you can still download what you've actually bought.
I don't understand why people push the narrative that you can't.
Well this kinda sucks, I have 1,2, and 3 digitally on vita already but still haven't got ultra despair girls and its the first to go. Hopefully it goes on sale before the deadline cause I don't wanna spend $30 on it.
@lordzand Correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't that what happened with the wii shop channel? Where regardless of if you purchased the games or not, you can no longer download them. Of course this is Sony and that was Nintendo but the possibility is still there. I dread the day when I may not be able to redownload my ps3 games.
@javiboy2 - I never had an issue downloading any PS3, Vita or PS4 game that I've purchased digitally that has been delisted.
They are always in my "Download List" section of the PSN store. Sony has always been good about letting you continue to download anything you've purchased digitally.
@Wookers84 Oh I haven't had any issues either. I just mean that eventually it may happen. I hate to be paranoid about it, but someday, maybe in a few years we could lose access to redownloading if they ever decide to take the servers down. The simple answer is to just download the games now but hard drives can fail. I'm glad we can still do it to this point so I'm hopeful Sony comes up with a long term solution for this in the future.
@javiboy2 Uh...delisted Wii Shop games could be redownloaded in fact they still can...
@Rhaoulos what a lot of people who spend considerable time online don't get is the vast majority of gamers doesn't really care about any of that. They buy a game, they play it and then they move on. They don't go all paranoid, "what if in 14.5 years I can't play it for x reasons????"
I've had a ps4 and saw no reason to buy a pspro. The experience is good enough for me.
I was waiting on a sale for V3 or an affordable physical copy. But I’ll probably just make sure I have it now.
@SincereMan You're missing the point. Yes, ideally, I'd like all the digital games I bought on the vita to work in 10, 20, 100 years. But if they don't, it's not the end of the world. There will be other games that will come out and most likely the experiences will be far superior.
I repeat. At the end of the day most people won't even replay most if any of those games. We're obsessed with the future and one or two games not working at some point, when we already have many we haven't even started and forger that we will have even more that will eventually come out.
@Link41x. I do not think so. The steam version is published by spikechunsoft so i think steam is safe.
@Chaotic_Dev That is good to hear then.
@Link41x yeah. I will totally buy the pc verisons if i have to. The series is just that good. Also they are releasing them on ios and android. I bought tigger happy havoc for my ipad just so i can have it on the go.
Stick with CDs everyone
I already have 1 and 2 on vita haven't picked up 3 or despair girls yet
Disc is disc, and digital is always jeopardy. Glad I have my Scott Pilgrim in my PS3...
@naruball I don't get why you downplay this issue. You payed for a game and suddenly a company gives you the finger and prevents you from downloading what you own. £45+ for a rental game is way too expensive. I'm glad Nintendo didn't break into my house and destroy with a hammer my SNES and N64 collection when they dropped support. Even if it wouldn't be the end of the world, it would still piss me off because I love to have a dose of nostalgia for free, even if the game is a lot worse than I remember
@Mr_Persona CDs don't work on PS4
I feel personally trolled. Duck Tales Remastered, The Last Remnant (although that one did eventually reincarnate on Switch among other platforms, Square Enix wouldn't tell you that in advance), now a whole series... they just HAVE to be pulled in early September when I'm at the tail end of my vacation money and don't have much to splurge on games. 🙄 At the moment, I've still got some room and admittedly been looking out for a potential Vita sale in July/August, but I was picturing a scenario of buying one discounted game, not THREE most expectedly full-priced ones (got the first Danganronpa earlier) on a short notice.
Little as I appreciate the phenomenon in general, I understand the publishers' circumstances and choices - but honestly, I would really like to learn about this stuff much farther in advance. If they give out this warning to entice the last batch of buyers, I daresay it could do well to let that batch prepare.
@Linux7055 What on earth are u talking about. Video game CDs do work on PS4. You make me laugh so much xD
