An updated version of Grand Theft Auto V is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5 next year, but could one of the upgrades it sports over the current-gen edition be a VR mode? That's the current speculation as the studio who put out L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files states that it is hiring for a "AAA open world VR title for Rockstar Games."
The quote is sourced from Video Game Deluxe's LinkedIn page, where it says: "Having finished the critically well received L.A.Noire: The V.R. Case Files we are now gearing up for a new project, a AAA open world title in VR for Rockstar. 2020 marks our 7th year of working exclusively for Rockstar in Sydney and we are excited to taking on this ground breaking project." The developer is hiring for positions including senior programmers, designers, and animators.
Since Grand Theft Auto 6 is still supposedly a long ways off and Red Dead Redemption 2 appears to be sticking to the PlayStation 4, the only realistic option we have here is GTA V. Are we about to get a PlayStation VR version of the entertainment behemoth? That would certainly justify an updated version of the game and don't forget that the current PSVR model will work with PS5. Although, we wouldn't say no to a new and improved model to really take advantage of the potential this project could carry. Do you think that GTA V really is getting a VR mode based off of this post? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Would be amazing to explore Los Santos in virtual reality.
See y'all in the Vanilla Unicorn.
Jeez, I replayed the game in first person mode and found that disorientating enough (I couldn’t drive on first person mode at all).
If true, at least they’re doing something new with it. Crazy that it will make it onto three consecutive console generations though.
If it's made for next gen PSVR too it would be day one for me, if not, well I'm kind of done with GTA5 - bring on something new Rockstar.
Maybe they make GTA6 or Red Dead 3 entirely in VR ? That would be something !
So quadruple GTA V ps3 ps4 ps5 PSVR
Just like skyrim. Ps3 ps4 PVR
100% want this. Haha.
Rockstar Presents Table Tennis 2
Its so we can do vr yoga and rockstar can get at that ring fit market
Ooo yes please would love GTA in vr. Was playing a bit on the weekend and thought this would be amazing in vr. But honestly Rockstar just need to make GTA 6 now it's ridiculous that we didn't get a new GTA game this gen.
It will be the best vr game, with skyrim and no man sky as number 2 and number 3. I hope skyrim and nms is also updated for ps5 vr mode
I honestly assumed this was where the ps5 partnership announcement was ultimately leading to. All the talk about the upcoming partnership to only have a stand-alone gta online always seemed like less than half the story to me.
I already own psvr and am getting Ps5 day one so I really hope this is going to happen.
Rockstar know how to milk game to death. New George Lucas of the gaming industry!
I'd be very disappointed if it was just GTAV in VR, I've no real desire to ever play that game again. Its like Skyrim, sure it was cool to see some of the locations in VR but I never felt compelled to play it as I'd already done all of it
This should have been done already lets be honest.
This game keeps on giving. Easily the best game of the last decade imho. Alone content-wise it's mind boggling.
@undercoveragent While I agree I think as long as they don't withhold features from the start, but iterate slowly upon what came before as long as the game is popular, why not? One can easily opt out of the milking if they so choose. GTA V Online had a rocky start to be honest, but since the first few patches it was mostly smooth sailing with SO MUCH content to explore and enjoy. Still selling like hotcakes 7 years on. Amazing stuff!
I don't plan on getting a Ps5 (because money and stuff) but if I did and gta was in vr I'd spend ALL my time just exploring the gardens and looking at those modern houses. I'd also be looking at shiny things and the pools and water.
@Quintumply now that would be something to get excited about
Bookmarking the GTA 5 prostitute map now!
@ThaBEN best hope they add chest physics for 'meh imershun'😀
@get2sammyb "That would certainly justify an updated version of the game"
I thought for many people GTAV on PS5 would have been justified by the addition of HDR and 4k. I know it's been so long you may have forgotten but GTAV is one of the few big games to not get ANY updates on either PS4 Pro or X1X. Sure, boost mode adds a bit, but Rockstar never made any additions, improvements or modifications. For the past few years I figured they were waiting to add them to the next gen versions to maybe sell some more copies. Or at least give people reason to play it again, native 4k and HDR. Guess we'll see when the side x side comparison vids start dropping.
PSVR would be cool for the occasional site-seeing but I can't imagine playing an entire long game that way, 20-30 minutes at a time is all I can handle. And yeah, I still havent' played GTAV yet, it's on the to do list after The Witcher 3 this fall. Or Winter. Or spring. Pandemic life.
I can already feel my stomach churning while hitting a jump going 100 mph and flipping over a bridge.
But it'll be a wild experience.
I'm curious if the ps4 should/is playable via backwards compatibility mode? No real interest in the online stuff, just if you wanted to play the current gen version for the campaign story mode? If it were one of the games needing a patch via rockstar & they instead compel everyone to buy the ps5 one instead?
@Paranoimia
I would have agreed but Gta V on Vr on Ps5? thats something else.
@rjejr You do know that I wrote this article and not Sammy, right?
@LiamCroft Yeah but sammy had the first post and you didn't post at all so it's either to reply than type a new name. #thinkaboutitgif
@rjejr But you’re quoting something I wrote, not him. 😂
@LiamCroft OK, since you're obviously felling left out, have at in then.😎

That's me driving off Mount Chiliad at full speed on a Sanchez then
Petition to kill this game pls. I'd rather see vr in a new city, I have literally put 81 days into GTA V on PS3, PS4 someone please kill me
Game changer. If the other already released PSVR games get a huge visual boost on PS5 as well and updated wireless headsets. Game changer.
Day one for me on PS5 with VR.
Has Gta V become the new Skyrim? Its Last gen, Current gen, Next gen OH and you want a VR version too?
I am just really disapointed that they did not show the game on next gen tech, Showing a video that was 8 years old peed a lot of people off
@LiamCroft GTAVR
@BNAG_Gamer Skyrim's far from the worst offender. Super Mario Bros is on 11 different platforms not including virtual console versions. Pretty sure every home console Zelda is on multiple platforms too. That said, at least that doesn't stop Nintendo making new entries in those series unlike Bethesda and Rockstar who have been stuck on the same TES/GTA for ages now.
Lol the pc version is the better version graphically but when in 1st person driving the mirrors don't even have reflections if this so called enhanced version doesn't have that then it's a straight pc port with just VR added in. Personally GTA6 would be there main focus now GTA5 has run its course for god's sake
@rjejr They never made any improvements to the PS4 X1X version because they have always been focused on GTA online everyone knows that
The money was coming in from online on PS3 and with PS4 coming out they knew as people over it's less income so PS4 version was released. There doing the same thing with PS4 to 5 keep the game going people move over income still comes in from idiots buying shark cards
