Developer 4A Games has announced that Metro Exodus will be coming to PlayStation 5 next year as a free upgrade to existing owners of the game, packing enhancements to both its resolution, frame rate, and more. Separately, the Ukrainian team also confirms it is hard at work on the next entry in the Metro franchise. This will include a multiplayer mode developed in partnership with Saber Interactive, but the team assures fans this online offering will be in fitting with the post-apocalyptic universe. It won't be a box-ticking cash grab.
But let's circle back to Metro Exodus, which 4A Games describes as an experience only made possible by next-gen consoles and powerful PCs. "While we can’t share all the details just yet, you should expect major enhancements including faster frame rate, increased resolution, reduced loading times, and stunning Ray Tracing features made possible by the new hardware."
And as for the new entry in the series, the studio says it is dedicated to delivering a fantastic single player experience first and foremost. "As a studio, we want to constantly push ourselves to create bigger and better games, but we also listen to what the fans are saying, and we know what’s important to you. We take our responsibility to the franchise seriously, and we think you’ll be excited about our plans for the next chapter." The new game will run on an overhauled engine to take advantage of everything the PS5 has to offer, including that all-important SSD.
Would you be interested in playing Metro Exodus on PS5? What do you hope a new entry in the franchise contains? Go on and share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.

Still never played this (or any in the series) and it looks interesting. Maybe I’d consider playing it on PS5
I bought the complete edition dirt cheap on the last PS Store summersale. Nioh 2 came in the way and stole most time I had reserved for my backlog.
So this is great news, I have been waiting this long so I can wait for the free PS5 upgrade then. ✌️
Oh no I just finished it this week 😂😂
Genuinely everyone needs to experience it for themselves though, one of the best FPS games ever made. It’s just fantastic. The haptics and triggers will add a lot too, especially with the guns jamming.
One of if not the Greatest.......😢
On sale at mo.. Well worth it. Can't say the load times are on Ps4 though..
I bought this game a while back but the frame rate issues were too much for me. I was hoping that it would get a ps5 patch so this is music to my ears.
On a good PC with a SATA3 SSD it loads in 3-5 seconds, so expect that much on PS5.
I may definitely go for this. It's super cheap on sale right now, could buy it now and then just play next year after the update. I actually bought a physical copy used at Gamestop last year but had to return it because it was a buggy mess. Playing on PS5 will likely be a much improved experience!
Always wanted to try this but I hate frame rate dips so I’m passed. I look forward to trying this out once it updates.
Will be more than happy to play through this again. Absolutely brilliant series.
@nessisonett its exiting to think that a games mechanic can actually be designed around what the heptic can allow you to feel now. Like you say, guns jamming etc. Could be something we actually see more of in the future.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Yeah, the guns in Exodus already feel different depending on how dirty they are, until they get to the point where they start jamming. It’s a mechanic that was already brilliant on PS4 but would just be a perfect fit for the DualSense.
A free upgrade for a game over a year old to PS5 version.
In the same way that the Control couldn't be done then (sorry, must let that one go).
I never finished this on PS4, so I guess I'll wait to finish it on PS5 now.
Really enjoyed my playthrough on the PS4 Pro. So atmospheric, and other than ridiculous load times it performed fine. The graphics are already great, especially within eerily lit enclosed spaces, so it'll be incredible on next gen consoles.
Do you have to play the previous titles to understand the story or can you just jump in?
@pharos_haven It'll make very little sense if you don't play the previous 2. Also by playing the previous 2 you will be disappointed by Exodus because they are far better games. It's almost universally agreed that the switch from tight linear focused stort design to an open world destroyed almost everything that was best about the series.
@ztpayne7 I would definitely wait for PS5 version... PS4 version runs like a dog *****
@Futureshark Control is dead and so is their developers to me and probably most others. stuf them
Finished the main game, loved it. Save the DLC for the PS5 upgrade 😎
Loved it. The DLC are short but good to flesh out the story.
This looked amazing on PC. Exodus and Control sold me on RayTracing, great news they coming to PS5 with it.
Hey Sony, this is what we should expect from you rather than charging us for a "remaster"
@Menchi Interesting everyone else on here seemed to have enjoyed it.
Bought the first two in a sale a few years back since it was like $8 and loved and I mean LOVED every second of it.
Haven't tried Exodus yet but it's on sale so might buy it for my Pro or wait to get my hands on a PS5, ahhhh I just don't know haha
@djape wait what, the controversy of control was entirely the publisher's fault, not the developers. Don't blame the developers for something that was forced upon them.
@pharos_haven I hadn't played the first two and enjoyed Exodus just fine. There is a very short story recap at the start anyway. I suspect there are characters and references to the first two that I missed but I still followed the story and enjoyed it.
To be fair, Metro 2033 was confusing enough and that was the first in the series. IMHO that was all part of the charm so I wouldn't worry, although if you look out for Metro Redux you'll get the first two remastered on one disk.
