Let's be honest with ourselves: 2020 has not been the best year for PlayStation VR. As Sony shifted its focus towards marketing the PlayStation 5, the Japanese giant's virtual reality headset received little love from first-party studios. Developers outside of Sony still had many multi-platform launches to boast of, but at this point, any title worthy of merit made the shortlist for voting this year. An unfortunate situation indeed, so let's hope the virtual reality device isn't on its way out entirely. Unless an updated model is being planned behind the scenes, of course. Here are the best PSVR games of 2020.
Bronze Trophy: Paper Beast
Paper Beast is one of those peculiar titles you simply must experience for yourself to really understand what it's going for. The wildlife and flora of this unique region have all been turned into papercraft figures, with the task of helping them get about, avoid danger, and solving puzzles out in the environment falling into your hands. Understanding how each species interacts with one another and experimenting with ideas forms the crux of the game, providing laidback fun for days. Paper Beast is pretty unusual, but in the right hands, there's nothing else quite like it.

Silver Trophy: Budget Cuts
Budget Cuts is about as close we'll get to a new Portal game, so in that sense, it's already pretty good. Equipped with a dimension bending gun, sneak about the TransCorp building and avoid militant patrols from robotic guards that would just love to put you back in your place. And thanks to enjoyable combat once you are unfortunate enough to be spotted, Budget Cuts manages to be both tense in all the right places and gratifying when the going gets tough.

Gold Trophy: Pistol Whip
Pistol Whip is what happens when John Wick meets Baby Driver — a fantastic on-rails shooter steeped in both style and substance. Your kills must be meticulously timed along with the beat of the music, turning the game's onslaught of foes into a fight for survival as well as a sort of dance battle. The soundtrack and action sync up so well that the vibrant visuals almost become an afterthought as a tune is about to drop, hyping you up for the next section. Pistol Whip is what VR is all about as it transports you to an otherworldly realm where the beat matters just as much as the bullet. Awesome stuff from Cloudhead Games.

Platinum Trophy: Marvel's Iron Man VR
Come on, who hasn't dreamt about being Iron Man once in their lives? No matter whether it was the early comic books that did the trick or Marvel's gigantic cinematic universe, we've all wanted to splash the cash as Tony Stark and get our own suit of armour. Marvel's Iron Man VR realises that power fantasy with a fantastic outing packed full of the action, jokes, and swagger you'd expect of the typical big-screen blockbusters. Flight controls quickly become second nature, powering up Iron Man's blasters might be one of the best uses of the thoroughly outdated PlayStation Move controllers, and special weapons turn the fight against evil in your favour. It's action, action, action over here — Marvel's Iron Man VR is a shining example of what PSVR can continue to achieve.

Offtopic but pushsquare dont forget to post a WAYP. It is Saturday
I think Iron Man is the only new PSVR game I played last year so had to vote for that one, even so it would have taken something special for it not to be number one anyway. I wouldn't say I'm the biggest fan of Marvel characters in general but this is a very good game. Flying around is fun and feels natural as does the combat, it looks great as well. Fun game
Iron Man PSVR is the obvious choice out of an ok bunch but nothing really held up after the very excellent demo level (chapter 1). Also some insane difficulty spikes in hard mode - the Canyon level springs to mind. Absolutely rage inducing. And they patched in an even harder mode after that one. You’d have to be an absolute masochist to even try it. I almost gave up on the platinum but managed to push through. It’s still a good game but not as good as I hoped it would be. Still, those first few times suiting up as iron man were pretty awesome and will stay with me.
Come on, not even the Bronze Trophy for Dreams???
I thought Iron Man was very average.
Were Vader Immortal or Star Wars Squadrons any good? Think Squadrons had PSVR support?
Unfortunately Iron Man didn’t work for me at all. It’s probably just me but movement wasn’t intuitive to me at all. The turning was driving me mad, I’ve never been so twisted up from VR before and eventually started to get a bit sick. I’ve never had this happen in any other VR experience. Glad to hear people enjoyed it though, the concept is awesome.
@Olmaz I wanted this category to be based around games only playable through PSVR. Otherwise, Dreams and Star Wars: Squadrons would be on here too.
Only played pistol whip so that gets my vote. Was really interested in iron Man b4, but I just can't be bothered to pick it up, might get it one day. Hopefully we get some decent vr games in 2021 or even psvr 2 announcement wireless and better controller.
@Daleaf Get it when its price drops dramatically.
Haha. What?
Star Wars: Squadrons. Easily the best PSVR game of 2020.
@LiamCroft If that's the case.. why is Pistol Whip in there?
Never mind. I understand what you're meaning there.
I was thinking of other headsets.
@hypnotoad yea and even then I will be 50/50 haha, something just telling me not to get it at all, but if it's less than 10 at some point might bite.
I for one didn’t not think iron man good at all , low par graphics , horrendous loading times . Teleport movement in the mansion !!! Repetitive gameplay , just a real sub average game!
If you want to look at a more accurate representation of PSVR this year then check out PSVR without Parole's awards show on Youtube, they even had game announcements.
Games like Walking Dead Saints and Sinners, Star Wars Squadrons, Until The Fall, Swordsman VR, The Room VR and Crisis VRigade showed that PSVR had a better year then what Push Square is making you believe.
@LiamCroft Fair enough!
An honorable mention would maybe have been nice though, for users just coming to this site once in a while or for those stumbling upon this article by doing a Google search "Best psvr games"...
Huh? Only pure VR games are allowed in the poll? Why on earth is that?
1) The PS4 games poll wasn’t limited to PS4 exclusives only.
2) You’ve automatically excluded one of the best psvr games for ages - Star Wars squadrons.
3) That logic would exclude some of the best VR games over recent years - no mans sky, super hot, RE VII etc
Sorry Liam, does’t make any sense to me.
ACE Combat 7 VR Missions!! Best ever.. Too bad they skimped out on the full experience.. Everybody's Golf VR is fantastic as well.
I thought resedent evil in vr was the best vr game hands down so so good
I can't believe you left Saints and Sinners off and only included it in your button poll choices! Thumbs down guys! S&S is one of the PSVRs most solid games. Up there with Astrobot, RE7, Squadrons, and Beat Saber.
Iron Man had many technical issues, some "VR developer noob" mistakes for VR veterans and was lacking in some obvious gameplay variety.
For Camoflaj - who only ever made one other game - Republique in 2013 (and a VR version of that game in 2019) - was a poor choice for a developer for such a high profile game.
I think they did the best they could with their experience level, and that's pretty impressive considering, but if Sony had've hired a seasoned developer for this, it would have been a much better game.
It DEFINITELY doesn't belong as a #1 spot when glaringly better games are missing on your list like Saints and Sinners and Star Wars Squadrons. Big fat "boo" at your list guys.. just "boo".
@LiamCroft - It's your list, so you do what you want, but honestly, if I am playing Squadrons or Dreams in VR mode then it's a PSVR game. Omitting such high watermarks in the PSVR library simply because they also have a 2d game certainly is doing the platform an injustice through your article.
It still is a bad list though thanks to missing Saints and Sinners from your top 4, and I think the majority of the comments are in disagreement with your list here. :-
The fact that your list is missing two of the best PSVR games available, TWD Saints and Sinners and Until You Fall, says a lot about how clueless this site is about PSVR.
Still have to dive deeper into Iron Man, somehow it didn't really catch me first few levels and haven't played SW Squadrons yet. One game that really amazed and enchanted me and held me in a tight grip is Paper Beast. A true gem for anyone willing to let it in! Best puzzle game i played since Portal 2. No doubt. Surreal and captivating all the way.
Even though I'm a huge marvel and MCU fan the iron Man game had very little appeal for me after trying the demo. But it's still better than the Spiderman VR ads 😂
While Iron Man VR definitely could’ve done with a bit more power to give the visuals more punch, I really enjoyed it.
I was pretty high on the Iron Man VR Platinum list on PSN Profiles at one point too.
Edit: Got bumped down to 30th spot. Stupid job. Haha.
Pistol Whip, Crisis VRigade 2, Star Wars Squadrons and Dreams were also amazing.
Haven't started Saints and Sinners yet. As mentioned in other threads, still waiting for my PS5 camera adaptor so I can play PSVR again.
