As part of EA's latest conference call, the publisher reiterated its plans to put out a new entry in the Battlefield franchise towards the end of this year. We've known for some time that the next instalment is in the works for a 2021 launch, but this reminder will be welcome news for fans who may have been worried by delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. EA states the new game will be revealed in the Spring and marks the return to "all-out military warfare".
It also makes sure to note that this new Battlefield title will take advantage of PlayStation 5's power to bring large-scale battles to life better than ever before. "Featuring maps with unprecedented scale, the next edition of Battlefield takes all the destruction, player agency, vehicle and weapon combat that the franchise is known for and elevates it to another level." EA is talking a big game then as the new generation makes a slow start.
Previous entries, Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V, were met with mixed opinions upon their PlayStation 4 launches, with numerous patches and updated needed to appease its hardcore community. A Battle Royale mode was also released later in the cycle of the latter title, which hardly set the world on fire. Let's hope this new game is a return to form in the vein of Battlefield 3. Operation Metro, anyone?

I’ve never been a big fan of modern day shooters as they lack any sort of identity so I can’t say I’d be fussed about this game. Battlefield 1 was pretty good as well.
Battlefield Vietnam please.
I enjoyed bf bad company and I really like bf 1, I hope this next entry is like those 2 games 😃
I prefer battlefield over cod and hope it's bad company 3 (highly unlikely though xd ) but I'm sick of WW1/2/future, just give me good old modern combat with ma tanks and jets.
Leave the high tech stuff for dlc.
Need Bad Company even if they dropped it as a 30$to$40 DLC
Last Battlefield game i played was III, and I enjoyed it immensely. I put a ton of hours into it and met many great people online. I am excited to find out more about this upcoming installment since I have skipped each installment after III.
No PS5 consoles available anyway so whats the use. 🤪
if they cant make something new and good, just remaster bad company 2... id ***** love that =) PS keep BR away from it kk ty
They should bring another bad company title to the ps5..bf3 was awesome but operation metro was a awful corridor of death map..also they should bring out a new fight night...E.A. have really done the best games under their name a massive disservice..make it right..
battlefield 3 was mediocre imo, 4 was miles better (after about 6 months of patches).. neither are in the same league as bad company 1 or 2. "return to all-out military warfare" does not suggest any likely possibility that it'll be bad company 3.
Metro was really not that great, it would quickly descend into a grenade spamming tournament. Operation Locker in BF4 was a much-improved corridor map, but it still encountered similar spamming issues.
BF4 is still my most played of the last three games. I’ve had a small amount of enjoyment from BF1, but barely touched BFV, after only having picked it up fairly recently.
It would be good to see a return to modern warfare and some of the maps from 3 & 4 revisited. BF4 suffered somewhat from a graphical point of view, likely as a result of being a cross-generation game. Multiplayer looked inferior to the single player mode and has not aged well from that point of view, although it still plays great.
The game also brought with it “Levelution”. Although a maligned moniker, the concept was interesting, but perhaps it could be re-introduced in a way that would have a more dramatic effect on the battles. They stood as background events that players would sometimes trigger in matches, but to actually incorporate events such as these into the goals of particular modes would be interesting.
I see people often call for completely destructible environments in games such as BF. I never quite understand this, as surely from a technical and tactical point of view it presents a number of problems. However, a certain amount of increased destruction and environment-based objectives could make for some very interesting gameplay. It’s a shame BFV didn’t introduce something more original other than the fortification building directly copied from Fortnite.
I’m hoping for something impressive from the next Battlefield game, there is so much scope, especially given the power of PS5. I would love to be drawn into the next game as I much as I was into BF4, really the only multiplayer game that I’ve played on a regular basis at all over the past seven years since its release.
I’m sure all the other Battlefield games featured “all-out military warfare”, unless I’ve been playing the wrong games. Odd statement that.
Definitely need a switch back to modern day rather than the past.
Battlefield 3, 4 and 1 (granted WW1) where incredible.
Hardline was decent too but was a spin off.
But V just had no steam at all and felt like a slightly changed skin of 1.
Looking forward to seeing how this looks on new consoles as the graphics and gameplay have always been insane at console launch
@Vacuumator I completely agree with you about battlefield 4. It's was the only battlefield I also played regularly, I did put a bit of time into one and V but they never got me like 4 did. As with the levelution I thought it was a great thing you could trigger amd was surprised when ea didn't bother with it for the next two games! I'm expecting something impressive this time around. Time for dice to pull out all the stops and actually make a complete full on battlefield game...... We can only wish tho!!!!
100 vs 100? 200 player battle royale? Submarines and battleships? All please
Battlefield 2 was by far the one I've played most, and enjoyed the most. I am hoping for a return to that era (early 2000s), with maps more in the style of BF2.
Used to be my favorite games but after the last iterations I'm not very optimistic about it. I'm mostly concerned about the stupid monetization models they're going to implement now. BF1 had a terrible progression system which took all the fun out of it with it's random lootboxes, rather than using a gun to earn upgrades for it (like BF3 and 4).
BFV wasn't my cup of tea in pretty much every way. the setting, the gamemodes, the maps, the weapons, the progression system and free to play mechanics...The only cool addition of V was the revive mechanic. This added a cool gameplay addition of having to choose to take a risk to revive someone, and shooting a guy holding his buddy in his arms felt pretty brutal.
Oh and for the love of all that is holy please nerf the snipers. BF4 was great in that regard, sniping was difficult so if you would just stay on the move you'd hardly ever get killed. Stand still and you die. In 1 and V you were just constatntly being killed by snipers because of the lame one hit kill addition in BF1 and the massive headshot hitboxes of BFV..
Haven't enjoyed bf since 4, all the ones after just haven't hit the mark for me, so going to hold off on this until I see some videos and review. They have had enough time so I'm hopeful that it will be good.
It’s refreshing to go back to BF4 now - no micro transactions and no seasonal content that’s been missed.
I see Hardline being mentioned - I have a couple of standout memories of this game. On my first attempt at the last level of the story I discovered that a good portion of the level could be skipped, jumping right to the last encounter. One of the multiplayer maps, Everglades, was absurd in the way every single match played out. The map provided a large play area for the teams to battle in, yet players would flock to a tiny little garage/petrol station and fight it out in the smallest of arenas. I never worked out if there was a tactical reason for this, but for some reason it was quite fun. Also, the DLC maps were void of life, even straight after launch.
Battlefield V had one or two genuinely good maps but everything else surrounding that game was a car crash, the snowy mountain map was the laziest piece of level design I had ever seen and the general lack of content gave off an unfinished feel, that just gave the whole game a soulless feeling.
What ever your views on the female protagonist reveal was, it didn't seem to help sell copies, so whilst they believe they were doing good, they do have to ask themselves who they are making these games for, because it seemed to sour a lot of people's opinions on the game. People tried to spin as sexists against progressives, but a lot of players just wanted authenticity instead of larger than life characters jumping out of windows with cricket bats and prosthetic arm models that didn't exist back then.
I hope EA focus on progressing the gameplay and improving on what the hard-core fans like about the series instead of copying current trends.
Just inject BF3 Metro and Bazaar into my veins
Loved BF4, one of the few multi-player games I sunk some serious hours into with a lot of great maps. Operation Metro though is one of the worst things ever programmed by humans.
Is anyone here still actively playing BF4? I always played solo and never joined a clan, which is something I wish I had done, as there is probably a lot more enjoyment to be had running and gunning with a regular team.
Looking forward to the next entry! I’d pick BF over COD any day of the week! I enjoyed/still enjoying every BF entry since it all began with 1943! In fact I just recently rediscovered BF4! Awesome!
@Flurpsel i HATE the snipers!! Such bull!! Just Get in there and fight!! Lol 😂
@joey302 it's not necessarely the snipers, its more how they play. Sometime I snipe too but I still end up pretty high on the scoreboard because I actively attack objectives rather than sit on a hill for half the match.
And in BF4 because it's so hard to snipe at long distance when I get killed while on the move I just say "nice shot
@Flurpsel I don’t really snipe much (cause I suck at it lol) but when there’s a really good sniper out there it can be quite frustrating. I try to stick with the medic as I like to rack up the points with revive and dishing out the Med packs. ☺️
@joey302 well every class has a role and I dont mind snipers per se but it definitely shouldnt be easy. I think my most played class in BF4 is engineer. I allways felt useless as assault because everytime a vehicle comes by I have to cower in a ditch hoping he didnt see me...lol it depends on the map and gamemode though.
Man talking about BF4 makes me want to play it again
@Flurpsel I’ve rediscovered BF4 again recently after unpacking my games after us moving plus i had to download all the maps that I already owned and then it hit me that I didn’t remember some of the maps at all! Lol sooo I jumped in and been playing it as much as BF1 & 5 lately lol.
Yea depending on the map I’ll swap over to engineer or assault but medic is my favorite. I guess I also just don’t have the patience to snipe. I prefer more direct action. In fact I try to avoid even spawning in on a sniper in your squad ha ha because usually they’re so far away from the action. Far as the vehicles i like the ground vehicles but no flying for me lol I’m horrible at it especially the planes & Jets! ☺️
@Flurpsel
I’ve played solidly as engineer for the duration of my time with the game. I also use the exact same gun, the PDW all the time. I think if I changed weapon I wouldn’t even be able to compete.
@Vacuumator PDW's, really? I tried most of them but didn't find one that really clicks. I mostly use DMR's or Carbines (M4, SG552 or the TAR for close quarters). I usually like a bit more range and there isn't a single PDW that has any.
@Flurpsel
I use the PDW-R. I grew accustomed to its short to mid-range capabilities. I prefer the rate of fire to DMR, although my preferred DMR is the QBU-88. Do you use scoped sights with DMR?
@Vacuumator I usually have a 3.4x scope and canted iron sight (and muzzle brake) on the slower firing DMR's. The faster firing ones I often run with a regular red dot scope because I use them a bit more aggresively.
I think the reason DMR's work so well for me is because you have to adjust your playstyle a bit to compensate for the lack of close range capability. So I moderate myself rather than rushing in and I take the time to flank etc.
But of course this depends on the map, some maps or areas of certain maps don't really allow for DMR's. I allways have a fast firing AR in Oplock for example.
