Gran Turismo 7 has been delayed to 2022 as it faces development challenges relating to the coronavirus pandemic. Confirmed via a Polyphony Digital statement from a GQ Magazine interview with Jim Ryan, the driving simulator will no longer launch this year. The full statement reads: "GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available."
The team behind the Gran Turismo franchise has always liked to take its time when developing new entries, so this is hardly a big surprise. Still, Sony talked a big game for the first year of the PlayStation 5, and this delay ruins that somewhat. In other news, Horizon Forbidden West should still make it this year at least.

Not a huge surprise. This and God of War 2 are the supposed 2021 games I have never believed would be coming this year.
Where is that Another one gif when I need it.
Wouldn’t be Gran Turismo without delays. Still, I was looking forward to this one.
Here we go again.
Of all the seemingly random news this morning this is the least surprising. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait!
Kind of expected, but fair enough. Take all the time you need!
I was expecting a delay into 2022 anyway, but if they are blaming COVID, this has a 2023 release date written all over it. Haha.
Hopefully it’s to add full PSVR 2 support.
Are there people who were really expecting this in 2021? 🤷♂️
Noo..
Oh well, more time for me to finish my backlog
Not entirely unexpected. Hopefully Horizon is still on track for late 2021.
That is a shame as I love the GT series and can't wait to try out a proper PS5 version but I am more than happy to wait for the finished article.
Christmas 2022 then 🤦♂️
Awe...fiddlesticks. Well I'm still eagerly awaiting this release!
Hopefully more people will have a Ps5 by then just saying....
No surprise but still hurts
I still got 9 PlayStation games to play that are out already so i don't mind at all I am looking forward to it but just haven't got the time to play it this year.
which comes as a shock to no one ever! I may even find a shop selling a PS5 before GT 7 arrives...
Think it would have been a bigger suprise if it was released this year tbh, wouldn't be gt without delays lol. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.
🙄 Of course its the trendy excuse of coronavirus.
Surprised anyone dont think so . Thay say 2022 that's late 2023 maybe but take your time I'm good with the delay . Full vr support will be nice
Not a bad thing. Especially good for the online portion which will need a good install base to be most successful.
We've got ratchet and clank along with horizon this year. That's not a bad first full year of big first party games.
Its because of cyberpunk 2077.i hope people are not gonna keep bringing the idea thats why gran turismo 7 got cancelled.the virus is still a thing.word up son
@Ken_Kaniff you will be delusional if you don't think that plays a big role on this.
I honestly doubt you know how hard it for developers (as well others) to work on things (in this case video games) from their homes. The stress is bigger than before and if delaying a game helps that... I'm all for it.
Nooooooooooooooooooooo
Calling it, it'll be a launch title for PSVR 2
@Ken_Kaniff Ah yes, that trendy excuse that has killed 500,000 people in the US and 2.5 million worldwide. Most people wish C-19 was a trendy excuse.
Surely nobody really expected this to actually launch this year anyway
Probably my most anticipated PS5 release until I heard about PSVR2.
Really disappointed.
I'm guessing y'all are going to be seeing a lot of this throughout the year.
Screw COVID so hard. i hate COVID so bad
@AdamNovice Nah hope not
@Playstation https://www.psu.com/news/horizon-forbidden-west-is-still-on-track-for-2021-release-on-ps4-ps5/.. it stated it still track to release in 2021
@rpg2000 I'm sorry, I guess I'm thinking from an average citizens standpoint where I have to go to work everyday with a mask on and run the risk of catching this everyday working in IT. Wasnt thinking about the luxury of a game developer that gets to stay home and work in front of his computer all day.
@MichaelHawj Why not it would be a big game for PSVR2 especially if the whole game is in VR. It wouldn't take away from the PS5 version
December 2022 at the absolute earliest. Did anyone really think it would be any earlier. It could slip to 2024 it's such a monumental project. Anyway I think it'll be worth the wait.
Polyphony Digital are well known for their delays so this isn’t really a surprise. At least I - and many others - should have a PS5 by the time GT7 comes out!
So expect it in 2023 at the earliest.
@angrygamer - I came here to reply exactly the same but with more o's 😂
I will always be on the side of take they time you need to make a game that i want.
If any game will ever be delayed it’s gran tourismo lol
A bit disappointed as I was excited to play this on my brothers PS5 but it’s not that big of a deal. I’d rather the developers be safe and take their time. Plus, I’m still playing through Dirt 5 and Forza Motorsport is still supposed to come out this year.
This is good and bad.
Bad in that I was looking forward to playing my first Gran Turismo game since the second.
Good in that I'm buying less new games and focusing on my backlog this year.
Not surprised, and not entirely convinced Covid is the reason. Look how long it took to get GT5 and GT Sport. Even the first game took them 4 years back in the days where good games could be made in 6-12 months.
"Launch Window"
-SIE
Jus' sayin'......
Once vaccinations are worldwide, these covid scenarios will end. The world will be back it's normal self by the end of the year thankfully. Or at least back to it's normal bickering and wars at least.
@AdamNovice yeah enjoy PSVR 2
Welp.... I'm upset. But for sure I am able to recognize that it will be weeellll worth it in the end. I hold this series to a high standard so this will ensure it is met. I have a ton of other games to play anyway.
It'll be worth the wait
Well, I guess this is a good reminder that buying consoles at launch is usually not really that great an idea, especially with Sony. Admittedly, the circumstances are a little different this time around, so it makes perfect sense to delay, but it's still disappointing to hear that a potential system seller, initially expected within the launch window, is now being delayed by about a year, especially when there really aren't any alternatives (Resi 8 isn't a true next-gen title, Ratchet will probably be delayed, Horizon isn't coming out till Christmas at the earliest, etc.) in the meantime.
Oh well, more time for that backlog I guess...
