Sony will officially take pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 in Egypt starting 25th March, but you may need to raid a pyramid to afford the next-gen platform. The console will sell for 15,999 Egyptian Pounds, which on current exchange rates converts to just over $1,000. Presumably import taxes are to blame for the severe hike, but it’ll be a tough price to swallow for local gamers.
Accessories are not any more affordable: a spare DualSense will retail for $126 while the Pulse 3D Wireless Headset will cost $177. Impenetrably expensive, then, and it’ll be interesting to see how many units the Japanese giant actually expects to sell with these kind of prices attached. Good luck to our Egyptian readers…

"Play Has No Limits" my ass lol
In Kuwait (where I'm from) it is priced similarly to everywhere else in the world = approx $550
Sony needs to intervene as this is clearly 'local markup' by the corrupt authorities of Egypt.
More than DOUBLE the flipping price...
Edit: Even scalpers are selling it for cheaper!!
I'm just here to applaud that subheader 👌🏻
I paid about £415 for my disc version, day one here, the shops currently sell them for around £550-600.
Look at the bright side, the price is so high, scalpers won't be able to afford it... Or maybe Sony decided to cut out the middle man and pseudo-scalp the PS5 themselves?
You can get them for 500 euros in any proper store in Ireland, that is if you manage to get one. They used to sell them online, but now you can just write your name in line and they will call you themselves, then you just pay and get console from the store or get delivered to home.
*Disk version, digital is 400.
Finally saw one in Thailand - 900 USD
@Kalvort
Not sure if Sony can or should “interfere “ in local politics. They can only sell at a price, if the government wants to add taxes that’s their right, and if people don’t like it then it’s up to them to rebel.
this is ridiculous, this is the official price
I used to listen to The Bangles, reckon I'll get a discount?
Pre-ordered two of them.
Get to your trucks, boys. It's time we go on a mission that doesn't involve cocktails.
Its found for $1600 here in Zimbabwe.
$1000 is "cheap" by comparison.
may as well get a cheap ferry or flight to Europe and pick one up there, bonkers
Import taxes for Playstation 5 in Egypt are 87.5%
Just to let you know Egypt has a 60% Tax for consoles plus a 14% VAT
If you do that math a console should cost around 14k EGP aka 800$ US
So since this is a British site, is that $1,000 Pounds? I'd assume so, but I also thought 1000 pounds would look different from US dollars? Well at least I know it isn't Euros. 😉
BTW if it's $1,000 US that's only 725 Pounds, but if it's 1000 Pounds that's $1,378 US, which would be nearly triple the going rate in the US.
@rjejr $ means dollars, presumably American - British Pounds use the £ symbol
I am Egyptian gamer and this is outrageous the price is insane and Sony selling the console for the same price as black market do in Egypt
Only for the princes and his company. Seriously, though, I'd rather just walk around maybe travel to the pyramids and camp out for a bit than pay such a priceeee.
Now I fell really lucky I grabbed mine for the recommended 499 EUR here in Ukraine.
@Voltan That's what I thought, thanks.
Funny story - I started typing that comment at 9:30AM yesterday, then halfway thru my sister called and we spoke for 30 minutes, then about 30 seconds after we hung up my other sister called and we talked for 4 1/2 hours. Then I hit "Post".
Saw the 2:37PM posting time when I knew I wrote it yesterday morning. 😆
