Mark Cerny, the lead system architect of the PlayStation 4 and PS5, goes pretty hard on games. When he plays something, he usually takes it all the way to the Platinum Trophy. He has a very impressive track record, having completed the Trophy lists for some seriously tough titles. Plats for The Witness, The Talos Principle, God of War, Invisible, Inc., and more adorn his digital cabinet.
A little while ago, Cerny showed off his gaming prowess, sharing that he'd achieved all the Trophies for the notoriously difficult run n' gunner, Cuphead. Yesterday, he boasted of his very latest top trinket: Demon's Souls.
We'd agree with him β the gorgeous PS5 action RPG is easier than Cuphead in some ways. Still, obtaining all the game's Trophies takes some dedication; you need multiple play throughs, and even trickier, you need to understand the game's tendency system. Congrats to Cerny on conquering Bluepoint's excellent revival.
Incidentally, between Cuphead and Demon's Souls, he's completed a handful of other Trophy lists too. Though certainly easier, Platinums from the likes of Astro's Playroom, The Pathless, and Bugsnax are also under Cerny's belt. Fair play, sir.

I like Mr Cerny. He seems to love what he is doing so much he can still play with the PlayStation when he gets home.
He seems so genuine.
I completed it once, but I'm not a big fan of the tendency system so I don't know if I'll go back for the platinum.
@Cornaboyzzz All you have to do is kill yourself in the Nexus whenever you're in human form and you'll never darken the world tendency. It'll just get whiter as you beat each boss.
I achieved the Platinum myself for this game, it really was so good, that there was no way I was going to stop playing it until I had achieved everything.
In my opinion Demon's Souls remake is tied with Bloodborne as the finest Playstation exclusive of all time.
Have the Plat too, was really fun to get. Cuphead however my god its hard
To be honest - It's also one of the easiest Platinum trophies I have ever obtained.
@Matroska stick the cling ring on too if you're concerned about the effect on your vitality.
I loved it, could only get into BB before but now I'm on a From soft binge off the back of it - completed Dark Souls over the weekend and now powering through another Bloodborne playthrough
The man has good taste thatβs undeniable!
I'm surprised I was able to platinum Cuphead, I usually don't attempt to platinum a game unless I pass the 75% mark on an average playthrough, and still want to keep playing after I've completed a first playthrough, and Cuphead was a really fun game so getting the platinum for that one was really rewarding.
It's always cool to see a big name who actually sets time aside for not just playing games, but playing them to completion. Interesting dude.
@Matroska Oh yeah I know how it works, I completed all the World Tendency Events (Black and White), but I still need to kill invaders to switch Character Tendency and it's just a pain. I only miss a couple rings so maybe I'll go back to it later.
I still have that one trophy left - I just have to unlock one more spell. That's it. It's 100% doable, I just need to make the time.
@Medic_Alert same here! been farming souls on level 4.1 and hopefully one day I'll make it...
I love/hate these games, I end up waaaaay over leveled for the normal enemies but keep getting quickly killed on bosses, I think I end up being 5 to 10 levels above the recommended level to beat them
meanwhile the top trophy hunter in the world's latest conquest is....
"Boom Blaster"
Yeah.. I'm more inclined to see Mark's achievement as significant, if I'm honest
This is probably easier than say, getting my hands on a Ps5 console
@gamer_since_83 if it weren't for the pandemic I imagine a PS5 drop at your local game shop would turn out a lot like a game of Demon's Souls, to be fair
Don't forget knack 1&2 he platinum both games too ππ
Kudos to him getting plat on cuphead tho that game is tough as nails, dam π¬
That's impressive, I don't think I can even finish demon's souls and cuphead lol.
I had demon souls on PS3 but couldn't get into it. However I'm now playing bloodborne and loving it. I've also bought the dark souls trilogy because I love bloodborne so much. Demon souls is now firmly back on my radar when I eventually get a PS5.
I agree not anywhere near as hard as Cuphead. Personally I've never actually thought Soulsborne are actually hard really, just challenging. But if you struggle you can simply keep grinding out levels to make things easier.
Cuphead and Sekiro though, tough AF
Lead by example !
Very impressive ! The only Fromsoftware game I have the platinum for is Sekiro (because I loved it so much I couldn't stop myself playing and wanting to complete everything)
My first platinum!!!
I knew Cuphead was a more difficult game but I never knew it was THAT hard. I loved it when I got platinum for it though.
Appreciate the graphics, not a fan of Souls like games. At least the reload times are better π Maybe if I actually played it I'd like it. Well done to Mark π
I platinum Demons Souls 4 times, the PS3 version is a good bit harder than than remake, good luck getting your pure Bladestone..
Cuphead is crazy tough! I could never get past the dragon. Keep meaning to go back to it...
Cool! I just bought CTR again and platinumed it in a few days, just before that I platinumed Spider-Man and 100% the dlc... I didn't think much of the second and third dlc, but perhaps I was just tired of the game, I even switched the difficulty to friendly on the last dlc xD
@Cornaboyzzz It's tricky, but boy are the rewards nice if you master the tendency system. Loooooove the Dragon Bone Smasher, so good!
NINJA APPROVED
Did you know that Demon's Souls allows you to create a character that appears male and has a female voice, or a character that looks female and has a male voice?
Congratulations to Bluepoint Games
and JapanStudio!I shouldn't rag on Mark for that....they took his Knack franchise away, too.....
