Many were sceptical when Hot Wheels Unleashed was announced by industrious Italian developer Milestone, but it looks like the veteran racing studio has come good. In this short gameplay trailer based on alpha footage, we get a good glimpse of what it’ll be like behind-the-wheel – and as the release’s slogan goes, it just looks like pure racing fun.
It’s exactly what you think it is: toy cars on wild and wacky plastic tracks zooming through different household environments. We suppose there’s a danger the action could get a little one-note considering its simplicity, but the handling looks solid and obviously there’s the opportunity for advanced manoeuvres, like when we see one car leap off the track and cut out an entire corner. Consider our anticipation levels upped a tick!

Looks surprisingly good!
Honestly? My Hot Wheels sound nothing like that
Gameplay looks fun but why did they choose a bland warehouse as the backdrop? Hope there is variation there.
@captainsandman you don’t play with your Hot Wheels in a bland warehouse? Get real
Doesn't look half bad tbh
This looks like it could be fun, and manic
This looks like fun, but at the end of the 4 minute video I was a bit bored of the idea...
Maybe I am just getting old 🧐
My son will lose his mind when this releases. Hopeful it will be half decent some launch
Looks good. You never quite know with racing games though, as too many are ruined by the inclusion of rubber banding which makes 95% of racetime pointless. Hopefully won’t be the case here.
Looks pretty fun actually. I might pick it up for 40 bucks.
The racing looked fun, but it was all rather unimaginative. Where was the loop de loop, the corkscrew, the bumpy section going over various piles of books, the firecrackers thrown at other cars, the attempt at an outdoor trail, etc...
Actually looks good. Right up my chuff!
I'm missing prox bombs
@Arugula The connoisseur's choice
Looks really pretty good. Could be my next Dirt 5.
I hope the controls are good, I'm not too sure with Milestone.
@Spoonman-2 Same. In fact, I got half way through and realised I'd probably rather be playing Wipeout. Plus I've got the Hot Wheels DLC for Forza 3 which I've never got around to playing.
I really can’t stand the overuse and reliance of handbrake turns in racing games, it’s what has killed NFS gameplay for me.
But regardless, this does have great promise if supported with lots of fun maps.
Wow...that actually looks super cool. Colour me interested.
I was kind of hoping it'd be more etherial like Acceleracers, but this looks good too.
I am ready for this Game it looks like a lot of fun playing. I am a little worried about the price and sale of add on cars. I miss the day when you earned things in game and did not have to buy them. People had to show they wanted short cuts and were willing to pay without putting in the time for rewards.
This looks pretty great!
I'm getting into 'toy car' racing with Circuit Superstars (early access on PC, with later console release). This looks promising too - fingers crossed the handling is good - seems alright in the gameplay footage...
Not interested in the game itself but I do give them mayor props for charging the same for the PS4 and PS5 versions, hope it sells for them.
Aw yeah! This is what I was hoping for.
I think the driving looks great. That actually made me a little excited for this!
Looks fun to me. I don't think this will be inferior to Dirt5, which probably says more about Dirt5 than anything...
Hopefully this will make up for the terrible Micro Machines game we got a couple of years back with no couch co-op it was such a let down
Liking the look for this one, could even be a day one purchase
Sadly it looks fun to me for all of 15 minutes. Seems like it needs another game mechanic to help make it more interesting/fun to me although I don't know specifically what.
Genuinely impressed by this. The only thing I can say it needs is a little change to the lighting so to not feel so globally illuminated and to make the colors a little more vibrantly pop.
Would also love to see this game tie into the toys themselves, nothing Skylanders level, just like a code to unlock cars that match the same car you just bought or something. No doubt that'll be a microtransaction sink instead.
Hopefully the actual game will be more challenging, so far not impressed by the trailer.
Looks pretty slick to me.
