Sony kickstarted its State of Play presentation earlier today with a few minutes of Subnautica: Below Zero gameplay on PlayStation 5. The trailer delves into a few details about the next-gen release, confirming support for the next-gen DualSense controller, which will add immersion to your underwater antics through haptic feedback.
Don’t forget, if you already own the original Subnautica, then you’ll also be eligible for a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade. Check out all the new footage above.

Pretty sweet they just gave this away and now we get the update too!
Awesome! Was hoping for a reason to play this on PS5 instead of pc and this sealed the deal!!
@get2sammyb You guys sure do withhold information to try to force people to upgrade to PS5. This sequel to Subnautica is coming to the PS4 as well for those who don't know.
@TowaHerschel7 There is no need to be over-dramatic. The title of the video clearly states it is for both, PS4 and PS5. Also, no one is forcing anyone to upgrade just because the article didn't state the game was coming to PS4 as well... c'mon.
@TowaHerschel7 That is one hell of an accusation. What would would they gain from people upgrading? PS4 or PS5 it's all Playstation.
@ILikeStake
Subnautica was free, below zero isn’t, as far as I’m aware?
Sorry but the sentence "if you already own the original Subnautica, then you’ll also be eligible for a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade" is completely incorrect. You don't get the sequel free on PS5 if you already own the original game - you get the sequel free on PS5 if you buy the sequel (not the original game) for PS4
Edit: ok, not entirely incorrect I didn't realise the original game was being upgraded
@Spoonman-2 I wasn't talking about the sequel, just the original game update, the one we got for free a few weeks ago. Or maybe I'm confused and only the sequel has a free upgrade?
@ILikeStake nope that’s right. As it stands the PS5 version is extremely unstable, lotsa repeatable crashes. It’s not rest mode friendly or even app switcher. The loading screen takes about a minute or more to load, but other than that fun game with an easy platinum.
@Bunchesopuppies I didn't think the PS5 version was out until May 14?
This looks very cool, but I just don't get why I have to choose between 4k or 60fps for an indie title, that has also been developed for last gen, on a ps5!?!? Shouldn't this brand new console be able to handle both things with ease? If a game comes later in the dev cycle with crazy visual fidelity then I would understand that compromises need to be made, but not at this point and with such games.
@ILikeStake
Yup the original 👍🏻
Have a good weekend
@ILikeStake true, but you can play older games.
@Bunchesopuppies Oh, so the issues you are having are playing the PS4 version on the Ps5?
If so, hopefully the upgrade fixes everything.
I don't really understand how this works.
I have a PS4 Subnautica disc. I get this new game for free?
