Hades, the gorgeous rogue-like action title that won so many Game of the Year awards, could finally be carving a path to PlayStation. As reported by Gematsu, Hades has received an age rating in Korea, for PS4.
These age ratings aren't always concrete proof that a game is making the jump, but more often than not, they're an indicator that something's happening behind the scenes. Hopefully we get an official announcement sooner rather than later.
Hades originally released on Nintendo Switch and PC in September 2020, and PlayStation players have been asking about its exclusivity ever since. Would you play Hades on PS4? Select a new godly power in the comments section below.

Yeah go on then. Given this was meant to be GOTY for many, it would at least be worth a try
Hooray! Hopefully people give it a go, it’s without doubt one of the best games of the last generation.
Friggin finally lol, can't wait for this, day one for me 😃
Also how the heck playstation lost this studio support, transistor is one of the first and best indies on ps4, I platinum that game, pyre while weird and not my kind of game (bought it day one but after trying it, I didn't like it), is a unique indie titles. And yet the moment they make game of the year material, playstation kind of abandoned them?
Didn't realise it wasn't already 🤣
If it’s hits PlayStation systems it’s a day one buy for me.
I hope this is true, I've been temotwd to get it one the switch a few times but waited just in case it comes to ps4/series so I can play it with better graphics/resolution
Hope its true. Absolutely loved it on Switch!
@The_New_Butler I’ve played it since alpha on PC and also own it on Switch. I might get it on Playstation too just to complete the set 😂
This is an absolutely phenomenal game! So pleased more people will get to experience it.
Not for 90$ CAD tho
Really looking forward to this. Supergiant games just get better and better and I know it will be my goty.
Have it on Switch and in my opinion, it really does live up to the hype. Here's hoping we get a physical release for ps5
I always find it fascinating when people find these ratings in different parts of the world.
I’ve heard so many good things about Hades it makes it day 1 for me, whenever it comes to PS.
Absolutely hate rogue likes, so no.
I will defiantly pick this up and play it on PS5. Too much good surrounding this game to pass it up.
So some people moan about the price of PS5 games but are happy to buy the same game on multiple systems?
🤔
Can't say I like top-down games, feel a bit too archaic for my own personal tastes, but I'll keep an open mind about Hades seeing as it's received so much hype.
@Col_McCafferty I’ve spent £40 on Hades on two different consoles. If I got it again on Playstation that would still be less than 1 first party game.
I’ve been waiting for this, hopefully it turns out to be true. Will be my first rogue-like/lite (don’t really know the difference) and will follow it up with Returnal some time after.
@colonelkilgore A roguelike is specifically relating to the game Rogue. So a dungeon crawler with permanent death. A roguelite takes the permadeath concept and applies it to a different genre.
I'd be happy to try it once it hits ps plus. Would never actually pay for it
Thank the lord! Terrific game. The gold standard for roguelikes as far as I'm concerned.
@The_New_Butler Totally. I have it on steam and would buy it day 1 for the PS.
Absolutely love the game and will get it on PS day 1
@nessisonett much obliged
I've been waiting for this
@nessisonett @colonelkilgore I disagree with that definition. I'd say a rogue-like has straight up perma-death, but while rogue-lites also feature perma-death, some things will carry over and you can make progress over multiple runs.
Day One buy here, I've been meaning to play it but I'd rather do it on PS5 than on PC (comfier, I can share with my SO, I rarely play anything other than FPS on PC)
@everynowandben Sort of. Not every roguelite has things carry over. Some roguelikes have things carry over.
@nessisonett @everynowandben hmmm, well I’ll be interested to see if the game loop clicks with me either way.
@nessisonett I can't think of any that go against the definition I gave, but I haven't played a whole lot of them in either genre. Any examples?
@everynowandben Tales of Maj’Eyal is a dungeon-crawling roguelike in that progress is permanently reset, but there are also permanent unlocks such as classes, races etc. So in a sense, some progress carries over because you’ve unlocked new ways to start your run. There’s also a vault where you can keep items you’ve found for a future run. But when you die, everything’s reset with no currency or anything that carries over. Isaac is pretty similar to that too, nothing carries over between runs except for ways in which you can start runs and items being unlocked. The two terms are so similar now that there’s always exceptions.
@colonelkilgore you wanna pick up Dead Cells. Absolutely awesome game!
Definitely gonna double dip and pick this up again. Supergiant is definitely one of my favorite dev teams
@VanguardKaiser yeah a mate of mine absolutely loved Dead Cells but I just really didn’t ‘fancy’ a 2D platformer... regardless of its quality and ‘rogue-ish’ charms. Maybe I should reconsider.
Wouldn't be surprised if it's announced at the next state of play
I would. Dead Cells has been in my top 3 played games in Sony's PlayStation yearly wrap up for 2019 & 2020.
@jcboyer515 That's fair. RPG is probably another example. I actually have always hated the word "Metrodvania" because in my mind Castlevania (SotN) has RPG elements while Metroid doesn't, and therefore "Metroidvania" is no longer accurately descriptive. If a game was described as "Metroid-like" or "SotN-like" I would know what was meant, but when "Metroidvania" is used, I still have questions because I love Metroid, but I'm not particularly fond of SotN. Know what I mean?
@nessisonett Interesting about the vault mechanic in Tales of Maj’Eyal - I've never heard of that game before. Thank you for the reference - it's got me thinking. Personally, I'd say influencing a future run via unlocks is different enough compared to actually carrying over items/stats/stage progression/whatever to warrant the distinction, but I can understand the argument otherwise. In any case, it seems we all agree there are usually blurry lines between genres.
It is not an exaggeration to say that this is the gaming announcement that would make me more excited than any other. SG is the best.
When Hades comes to PS, I am dropping whatever I am currently playing and starting that.
I'm surprised it wasn't already on PlayStation. It gets talked about a lot and has a lot of praise, so I just assumed it was available everywhere.
Where it should be in the first place.
Actually it first launched into early access on EGS the year that service launched.
Finally! Yes! 👏
@b1ackjack it does have cross save between PC and Switch I believe.
That's not to say it will with PS but there is a glimmer of hope.
One of the best rogue likes, but still a rogue like.
@jcboyer515 PS5 games cost 90$ CAD.
@nessisonett Yikes bud, you do talk quite a lot about having low income and PlayStation exclusives being too expensive. You bought returnal second hand but will put a further £20 totalling £60 into a £20 indie game. This is strange due to amount you complain about it. What gives? 🤣
Heard nothing but good about this game so I’ll give it a go
@KayOL77 Because I bought Hades on PC almost two years ago. And then on Switch a couple of months ago for my younger brother’s birthday so that he could play it. I was mostly joking about buying it on Playstation but the point remains that the one GOTY-winning game three times over is cheaper than 1 first party game that has locked me out of the platinum due to glitches.
@colonelkilgore There is hardly any platforming in Dead Cells, so would not class it as a 2d platformer.
Enter the Gungeon was recently free as part of Stay at Home, that would be a good introduction to the genre of rogue lite/likes.
@JohnnyShoulder yeah Enter the Gungeon was one of the games I didn’t add actually. It’s all good though, hopefully Hades will release for PlayStation and Returnal is a definite play for me at some point.
@colonelkilgore You might wanna try and a smaller title first if you are unsure if you will like the genre, something like Enter the Gungeon is often on sale and can be found really cheap. There were loads of good reccomendations in the Returnal forum thread, so you might wanna check that out.
@JohnnyShoulder I’ll check it out but I definitely want to play both Hades and Returnal tbh... Hades due to almost all of my ‘go to’ YouTubers raving about it late last year and Returnal as I love a 3rd Person shooter, I love a challenge and I love a mystery.
Will definitely buy this day one. Everything about this game sounds just awesome. Hope this is true!
@SlySnake0407 I have never played a game from them before, so this will be my first, and also my first rouge game. I hope to understand the concept after playing it.
Truth be told, i would love for transistor to go on sale on PSN. That is the game from Supergiant that really intrigues me.
I’ll still wait until the eventual GamePass release.
Can’t keep up with big games - Indies are on the back of the list for both time and money.
Played the heck out of it on Switch but Pyre is still my favorite Supermassive game
Nice, guess I'll finally be playing this. I know a Korean rating is no confirmation, but it might as well be since I've never, ever seen these ratings turn out to be red herrings.
@nessisonett ahhh cool man. How much do you think it took to make hades vs returnal? 🤣
@KayOL77 How much did R Kelly’s Trapped In The Closet cost to make? What about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Budget will never equal quality. And there’s also a massive difference between paying £20 twice across a 2 year period to paying £70 in one go. Disposable income can cover £20.
@nessisonett But unlike those examples, Returnal is a game of high quality.
Also, despite having many episodes, I sure hope R Kelly’s Trapped In the Closet didn’t cost that much to make. The production values are not of high quality, to put it kindly.
@DeepSpace5D Well yes, Returnal is a decent game. But trying to bring up budget is silly. Movies charge the same price for cinema tickets regardless. Albums cost the same, although more for a double album. Books are by length rather than budget.
@jcboyer515 because Sony?
But seriously that is new game pricing now. And if you look at other games, steam was selling civ 6 for peanuts with DLC while the ps store was selling it full price without dlc. They’re actually being sued for that practice specifically.
@nessisonett If a company decides to invest a lot of money in a game to differentiate itself from the competition, it’s not unreasonable to expect a good return. Fair enough regarding the bugs. I’m very happy with returnal. About 30 hours in. 4th biome. It’s like crack. I’ve just got to have another shot. As long as Sony is willing to make good games(and they are) I’ll reward that. I want more you see.
@nessisonett So then should games all cost the same because that is the way things are for other forms of entertainment?
Wouldn’t that have made Hades a $60 game if it were trying to go by the most common universal price of a new game regardless of budget? Since it costs the exact same to watch an independent film at a theater vs a big budget film.
@DeepSpace5D Actually, it often costs less to watch an independent film. Since they usually are only shown at the local independent cinema, which charges less than Cineworld. But I digress, the point isn’t that games should all be priced the same, it’s that budget doesn’t factor into Sony’s pricing strategy. Have a look at the list of the most expensive games to produce. How many of those were priced more than the average cost at the time of release?
@crimsontadpoles @Icey664 Same here genuinely surprised.
Hopefully it launches at a reasonable price on PS4/PS5, like $30 USD.
I will have to get this and last of us 2. I've been so taken by the ghost of tsushima over the past year that I really haven't played many other top teir Playstation games.
@Mega-Gazz Considering a hard Switch copy is $45 CAD at Amazon Canada, I doubt they'd go that high, especially for an indie title.
https://www.amazon.ca/Hades-Nintendo-Switch-Games-Software/dp/B08WWC6GBX/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=hades+switch&qid=1621121667&sprefix=Hades&sr=8-1
I tried this on switch. I know I'm in the minority but it didn't click with me. I just don't care for this genre but I do like Super Giant so hopefully they go back to something like Transistor for their next game.
@nessisonett It depends, I’ve actually paid more to watch independent films before, especially when theater availability is limited due to lack of widespread release. Some of those boutique theaters that get the obscure movies larger theaters don’t get will charge accordingly for the experience.
I’m not sure it’s fair to say budget doesn’t factor into Sony’s pricing strategy. It’s probably not the singular deciding factor, but it likely plays a part along with other things to factor such as amount of content, production values, innovation, technical achievement. A Playstation Studios production usually comes with a level of quality that is higher than the industry standard.
The games with the largest budgets are usually always priced at the maximum base price for a new game. Last console generation that was $60, this gen it appears to be $70. If Rockstar games next game that is not crossgen is only $60, then I will gladly say no other game deserves to be more than $60.
Fantastic game and yeah i may double dip.
@jcboyer515 they’re being sued in a class action case because they’re not letting third parties sell codes anymore, which lets them sell stuff above market price.
https://www.gameinformer.com/2021/05/06/sony-class-action-lawsuit-revealed-over-playstation-store-exclusivity
As others have noted,a shame Sony never got this Day 1,given the devs previous association. It's ironic where Sony gets roasted for 3rd party timed exclusives, yet games like this or Devolver's published Katana Zero,Carrion etc..,still aren't on PS4/5! Switch is very active in timed indies exclusives & noone bats an eyelid!
Much less XB buying up third party publishers & they get applauded for it!🙄
@jcboyer515 I don’t know why you’ve made this complicated. I won’t buy hades if Sony applies there ps5 new game pricing to it. If they price it according to its actual age, sure, but in the past they’ve priced ‘new to playstation’ at full price, e.g. Civ and its DLC 4 years after release on PC.
Yes, it is an indie title but also a GOTY so who knows what they’ll do.
And that lawsuit is exactly like this situation - if third parties could sell codes to hades on playstation there would be more/any competition and the price would be driven down.
I hope it includes cross-save for those people who have already played it on PC or Switch.
I would love to okay the game on my PS5, but I would not want to start it all over again!
I'll play Transistor one day, given I own it on PSN AND Steam. But Bastion didn't give me a very good first impression of the developer, and I tend to not enjoy rougelike games, so I have no idea when or even if I'll try Hades.
Got it day one on Switch and absolutely loved it. I’d definitely get it again on PS5. Here’s hoping it does come to PlayStation!
Hades absolutely deserved the GOTY for me. Supergiant really need to bring this game to other platforms.
This game is awesome! I play it again and again on my Nintendo switch lite. Glad when I can play it on my PS4 as well 😎so I can admire the game on a bigger screen as well!
@Mega-Gazz Sony does not make other developers price their games they only do there own games. So what you are saying is total nonsense.
@Judal27 would never pay a GOTY contender?
@ViolentEntity Its not a Nintendo game, if it was it wouldn't have come on PC first and could be a getting a PS port. As for thinking its "mediocre" well sure you think that just like some think Citizen Kane is "mediocre" but it doesn't mean you're right.
@Wally. To be fair its each to their own. It will never be that all things are loved by all people.
I respect that people who like games of this nature love this particular example, just like people who like american football games like Madden, and peeps who like GTA games liked GTA 4 and 5 etc. But it doesn't mean it will 'convert' people - and nor, imho, should it try.
Its great to have so many genres to choose from - and to not feel any obligation to give a flying figg even for the world's 'best' in many of those genres. Thats the joy of choice.
@Exciter89 No, an indie game and from a genre I'm not particularly super into
