Announced out of the blue during Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest showcase, Death Stranding Director's Cut has just been given an official age rating and description by the ESRB (as spotted by Gematsu).
Despite being "enhanced and expanded", we still don't really know what's being added to this PlayStation 5 version of Death Stranding. The aforementioned ESRB description is the same as the description for the original Death Stranding, save one specific line.
The line in question reads: "In some stages, players can perform stealth takedowns of enemies (e.g., strangling characters from behind)."
You could already perform stealth takedowns on humanoid foes in the original release, but the fact it's now being mentioned as a gameplay feature perhaps suggests that stealth will play a bigger role in the new content of Director's Cut. After all, the reveal trailer did make obvious Metal Gear Solid references, while teasing a new interior environment that was being patrolled by a new kind of enemy.
In any case, we should have some answers soon. A full reveal for Death Stranding Director's Cut is supposed to be happening within the next few weeks, which may well tie into rumours of Sony broadcasting a fresh State of Play in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled in the comments section below.

The Kojima experience 😍 I want this, MGS remake and a new horror game made under a superfake company name. I have realistic expectations 😂 but wow, this trifecta would be so cool!
Looking forward to it. But hope the original game can be updated to this version instead of requiring a full purchase. Doubtful, but who knows.
I really wouldn't mind paying $70 for this if the graphical upgrades and new story content/features are substantial. I really liked Death Stranding.
@Casco yeah if there's a cheap upgrade path then I'll be in. Otherwise, will stick to back compat on my PS5 with the PS4 version (although the existence of this directors cut pretty much rules out getting a 60fps patch now!)
This is interesting, I don't have problem with the lack of combat on death stranding but I'm interested in it if kojipro add mgs-like stealth combat.
Its a bit cheeky making a directors cut of a game where the director had full control first time round of a game made by a studio that even carries his name.
Can't help but think this is a cash in. Although I'm not counting out the fact that after all this time there could be many improvements and additions he did not have time and/or budget to include first time round.
Really think this should be offered as a patch or upgrade path to current owners.
@TooBarFoo lol so true, anything Kojima makes could probably be labeled as a director's cut by default.
I'm sorry Kojima but it will take a lot more than some bunkers and cardboard boxes to get me to ever play Death Stranding again.😆
Will be a tie-in to Abandoned
@TooBarFoo I think it's just a term usually attributed to movies that Kojima has chosen because of his reputation. Could have gone with Extended Edition as well. Hopefully the expansion is quite substantial, as I wouldn't mind leaping into this with PS5 upgrades.
'Out of the BLUE'??? BLUE Box games??? Looking forward to playing this soon. Maybe in a few months time.
Metal Gear Stranding
I'd buy this anyway but I'm interested to see what the difference is between the standard edition and this.
I love both Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid, so this is great news to me.
Give me haptics. Let me feel every step I make. So I could play with eyes closed
Nobody should be surprised by this. Apart from metal gear solid 4, all of Kojima's games have a re-release of sorts.
Okay, maybe those none-console games, policenauts and the other one (name eludes me)
Edit: The other was Snatcher, turns out that got a re-release too
If they charge full price for this then I won't be bothering unless there are SIGNIFICANT additions.
I would have rather a FF7 Remake situation, where the additions are paid DLC and we get a free upgrade for the base game.
This just cries of money grabbing.
@RBMango might have to give it a go. I like story driven games and this game is story
60FPS and maybe 4k with a bit of Raytracing is all I want to play it again.
All I need is 60 fps and they can snatch as much money as they want from me.
@Alpha_Pulse For me I just want to see how Kojima handles the haptic feedback and the AT. Possibly gonna be like the PS2 era again where Psycho Mantis reads your memory card.
@Nepp67 yessss! That was awesome back then. Can still see my pad moving across the carpet now!
Lush open environments, great music, peace and quite all ruined at the start of the game the constent calls from heartman etc. This drove me insane. That radio ping is annoying as hell. If they actually had anything good to share would help to instead of the same dribble. Doooooodah "You can use a ladder to cross streams" dooooodah....
Directors cut features "signature required" missions, barcode scanning, and delivery photos.
@Feena That would be a truly perfect Kojima world...though it seems like the horror game might not be what we think it is.
