The online E3 2021 shenanigans continue as Square Enix takes to the digital stage to deliver a very exciting line-up of announcements from both its Japanese and western studios. There's always excitement whenever the publisher brings some goodies to the party, so it's no surprise there was a lot of hype surrounding this particular showcase.
We finally saw Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos Montreal, a game that has been rumoured to be in development for a number of years now. Then there were updates on Babylon's Fall, the Black Panther expansion for Marvel's Avengers, and Life Is Strange: True Colors. One other important reveal was Final Fantasy Origin.
Where does your opinion on the entire show land, then? Were you left impressed by what Square Enix had to show or was it a bit of a dud this time around? Place your vote in our poll and expand on your thoughts in the comments below.

"I am here to kill chaos."
...
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jesus christ, what the hell was that?
Best of this E3 so far, though I'm sure nintnedo will top it
More like Marvel Direct
Nah. Bit rubbish. GotG looked better than expected but then FF Origin looked just like Dirge of Cerberus AKA completely pointless and 2004 angst cringe.
Thought this would be the show to make this whole E3 worth it. Just dreadful each showcase has 1 game that looks decent. FFOrigin looks bland. Wheres the flashyness of it all.
Lack of FFXVI and Ever Crisis was a bummer. Looking forward to the Origins demo though!
Why would they put the FF Collection on just Steam and mobile
Like I get Steam but you literally put the FFVII-XII remasters on PC AND consoles
@UltimateOtaku91 I mean each to their own but I think that’s a crazy statement 😂
It was pretty poor imo. Guardians of the galaxy looks okay though, I like them.
One of the biggest disappointments ever. Garbage Marvel games and no news on FF16.
Final Fantasy remasters only in mobile and pc. Final Fantasy Origins looked generic. Guardians of the Galaxy looks flashy, but boring. Babylon’s Fall is live service. Life is Strange exists. No FFXVI. Pretty sad state of affairs IMO.
Look. If i see life is strange i smile and thats worth a bonus point for me. Cant wait for the remaster of the first game in particular.
Final fantasy origin could be fun, but my goodness the VO is cringe. Like early 2000's want their lines back.
Final fantasy 1-6 in the style of the DQ 3 remake had me hyped before the show. So to hear they were steam/ios titles was a big disapointment.
GoG actually looked brilliant though and was the game Avengers could - and should - have been. I hope it does well for Eidos Montreal.
Failure to show more FF16 effectively seals it in my mind that Sony will have a show in the next month to flesh out their upcoming line up - including dates forDeath Stranding Dx, Horizon etc
Wow that Final Fantasy chaos trailer was bad.
@Fenbops well ubisoft and gearbox was shocking and Microsoft had nothing new apart from cgi trailers and forza so yeah this was more appealing to me.
@Icey664 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was laughing by the end of the trailer. CHAOS.
Guardians looks bloody fantastic and the guardians of the galaxy are my favourite Marvel Heroes so this showing gets 4/5 kneeslaps.
I WANT TO KILL CHAOS!
FF 1-6 on mobile and not consoles is the biggest troll job since ff7 remaster coming to steam in like 2014 or whatever year that was
I might have been interested in Final Fantasy Origins if they had put any thought into the dialog. Instead they just said "Chaos" dramatically twenty times in a row.
@Fenbops
Right? I thought it must be a joke. So cringe lmao
Oooooooooooof.
It was pretty awful. Too much focus on marvel crap, FF1-6... but on steam and mobile, Babylons Fall looks worse than when it 1st appeared and the rest i didn't care for.
The highlight was clearly final fantasy origin but those 3 guys looked like terrible OCs. The actual game itself looked very interesting
Babylons fall looks like a darker Godfall
@UltimateOtaku91 fair enough man fair enough. I just think you’re mad 😉
Straight up garbage, considering some of the franchises they are sitting on this was bordering on an insult and they seem hell bent on driving the FF series into the ground.
Good for our current Covid-19 reality. Looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy.
I wanted something about FFXVI and the future of Kingdom Hearts, but well, I didn't really expect these to show up.
Started off Very Good but descended into Choas
Preety much as everyone is saying a disappointing presentation, too much marvel. Hope they upgrade FFI to FFVI on mobile with the new versions at no cost for owners of said games.
The highlight for me was Contrast adjustment in life is strange remaster.
PlayStation is in trouble.
This E3 has been a lot of meh for me so far. I think only Nintendo might save it, but given I have no faith in them at the moment, I am sort of ready to write off E3 at this point.
@Rob_230
facts on facts.
I dont play Life is Strange but the VO for the main character of True Colors is gorgeous and as a person of Asian descent
1) representation is a real thing
2) helloooo nurse!
GotG looks fun and totally agree that Avengers should have been more focused instead of trying to be like an online microtransaction multiplayer w/e it's trying to be.
FF Origins has terrible voices because it's ENG, I'm sure the JPN voices would be better...although the game itself seems kinda boring at best.
I agree that Sony has a State of Play in the works, either end of this week or maybe next month to showcase more ish (including FFXVI and other exclusive stuff)
Day one for Guardians. Really like the look and gameplay shown.
I was excited for a "soulsborne" final fantasy, but that trailer has just made it an immediate no.
Quick stream reviews: ubisoft sucked, gearbox sucked, square sucked, good showing by MS, Prime Matter/Koch media had a better showing than the first three. E3 is not making a good case for itself as of Day 2. Maybe Nintendo can still save the day? or probably Bandai-Namco if they show more of Elden Ring, the game that is winning the summer for me so far.
It felt like they were holding back the good stuff, namely Final Fantasy XVI. Hopefully Sony have a show planned.
I was looking forward to seeing what Origins was, but I'm pretty disappointed by what they showed. The trailer was very poor.
Babylon's fall still looks interesting, but those accents were bad to the point of distraction.
What were they thinking with these character designs in Guardians of the Galaxy? Let's let them look like in the movies with extra different faces?
Not a great show. Even the Team Ninja game looks just decent.
@UltimateOtaku91 100% agree with you. GoTG looks super fun, FF Origins looks like a great hack and slash. Babylon’s Fall could be really good too if it’s not MTX galore.
Teasers for Forpsoken, FF16 also.
@Fenbops Consider me mad as well. That was light years better than the Xbox one.
@Nintendo4Sonic They are similar to the comic books, which are the original source material.
For me with a short attention span the Xbox one has been the best so far. 30 games in 90 minutes. I even got bored of some of those trailers but I knew it wouldn't be long before the next one. I play Forza but you don't need what felt like 10 minutes of it's got cars and you drive around some pretty environments. I kept walking away from this once I realised it was going to be drawn out rather than punchy. Nintendo should top it if we don't just get 30 minutes of a new Smash character. This E3 could have been Sony's for the taking.
Very very surprised to see the scores for the Square Enix panel get lower scores than the Microsoft/Bethesda panel. With the SE focus on third person cinematic games I'd have thought it'd have catered a lot more to the Sony crowd than it appears. Good to be proven wrong.
@Icey664 I feel the same way, but honestly the trailer was SO goofy and dumb to the point where I kind of loved it. I was laughing my ass off.
Overall I was pretty disappointed with the show. Guardians of the Galaxy could be really cool but when I was watching the trailer on my phone it looked super janky, though that could have just been the stream lagging. Stranger in Paradise looks goofy as hell and I'm kind of excited to check out the demo here soon. Babylon's Fall might have been worthwhile but I found myself tuning that out because I was listening to the show at that point rather than watching it and I'll probably check out the trailers for that on their own later. Other than those things nothing else really interested me at all. I was really hoping to see more of Triangle Strategy, Dragon Quest, or FF 16.
I thought it was OK but I kind of expected there to be no news on FFR2 or FF16. With them being exclusive we are probably going to see at least FF16 at the next Sony show.
Why the hell would they send the original games to Steam and Mobile and not consoles... I've been wanting 1-6 in one place forever.
Terrible. One of the worst shows ever seen on E3 for me lol
Was excited for SquareEnix announcements the most and am utterly disappointed. So far, worst E3 ever.
Anyone who says that this was the best show at E3 is a Sony fanboy bashing Microsoft. This presentation was absolutely horrible, and the ONLY thing that was good was the FF 8 Bit collection.... until they ruined it by announcing it was mobile and steam only. I would have probably bought this on PS5 over Xbox had it released on both due to PS feeling more like home for the genre. Square is slowly getting the floor mopped with them by Atlus.
They should’ve saved the Dragon Quest stuff for this. If they would have, it would’ve been the best showcase so far this E3. But they didn’t, so it was a bit par for the course this E3. E3’s been a bit bland this year. Nintendo could end up having the best showcase this year without much challenge.
I thought it was bad. I didn't like most of the games announced for other E3 shows either. I really want some new Japanese action rpgs for xbox or ps4. Mostly want stuff for xbox, but rarely anything I like is on there.
Guardians of the Galaxy if the only thing i have seen At E3 that I am excited for.
Hey everyone I heard you like final fantasy collections well hear me out how about a final fantasy collection but you can play it on your telephone
@Rob_230 Slowly catching up with some of the E3 stories (& bit bleugh following first vaccine jab). 😷 Agree the lack of any FF1-VI ports to ps4/5 is a definite miss. 😕 Bit like the news the spiritual Suikoden successor popping up on gamepass was a missed opportunity by Sony from a marketing viewpoint.
Would be nice if they teamed up with Konami & at least release a Suikoden compilation like the did with Castlevania SOTN!
I think even a WH40K Inquisitor has never said "CHAOS" as often as the chap in the Stranger of Paradise trailer, it's nice that S-E are still supporting the PS3 though so there is that.
GotG didn't look bad but pretty much everything else was very poor.
Not as great as Xbox's or Nintendo's Directs, but I still enjoyed some of the announcements!
Looking forward to playing these four games:
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel's Avengers: Wakanda Campaign DLC
Life is Strange 3: True Colors
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
