We can breathe a sigh of relief: the PlayStation 5 remake of Dead Space won't contain microtransactions. The welcome news was confirmed as part of an interview with IGN following the game's reveal at EA Play 2021, with senior producer Phil Ducharme saying: "We're looking at what can be taken and reinjected into the first game from a future standpoint. We're also learning from mistakes such as microtransactions, which we will not have, for instance, in our game."
Ducharme then confirms microtransactions will "never" happen in Dead Space, essentially saying they won't be added to the game after launch either. It was Dead Space 3 that introduced microtransactions to the survival horror franchise, allowing you to spend real money on weapon upgrades when you run out of in-game crafting materials. "You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace," was what associate producer Yara Khoury said at the time. This feature won't be present in the remake of the original game.
In terms of what the Dead Space PS5 remake will do, there's going to be "improved gameplay" and story enhancements on top of the fresh lick of paint and the move to running on the Frostbite Engine. I think I might wait for the PS6 remake/remaster lol.
Does anyone else think a game not having micro transactions being news is a bit sad
@Kopite
I totally agree. It’s very sad we live in an age where this needs to be reported.
I'll believe it when I see it. I know better than to take EA at their word.
They're finally learning...
"which will never happen in our game"
Then it turns out they've moved all MTXs to an outside website that gives you tokens to open lootboxes inside the game.
Genuis.
They’re going to have him talk, aren’t they? The voice work in 2 was alright I guess, but I much preferred 1 limiting it to visceral grunts and death wails. Full dialogue just sapped the tension for me.
@HUMPERDOO the dialogue will be paid DLC
I love it how EA refer to their shady business practices as "mistakes". Like, oops we didn't mean to put them in to target vulnerable people to maximise profit; it's like they forget that's what lead to DS's downfall in the first place.
Jedi Fallen Order didn’t have micro transactions right? It seems like they’re on the right track with their single player games recently.
Happy news if true! Looking forward to this remake alot.
Darn. I was looking forward to paying $5.99 to unlock Isaac’s iconic Plasma Cutter.
😃
Does EA actually expect praise for this?
Hoping for weapon building 🤞🏼
This was the best part of 3. I know folks don’t like 3, but the weapon construction was a great gameplay addition, and made sense with the character (Isaac being an engineer, after all). Hoping that they make an expanded and fully modular weapon system.
Dead Space was lightning in a bottle, a bottle that EA punctured a hole in, watched it escape then threw in the trash. I’d still rather have a new entry but I’m open to them capturing that lightning again. What better place to start, I suppose?
Nice, jedi fallen order also has no mtx and no added mtx later. I just hope unlike the original games, ea won't have unrealistic expectation about it sales, like 10M sales or something.
@Kopite These days, it's better than assuming they do or don't.
Would have preferred a new story in the same universe.
I'm not one for replaying narrative games.
The Callisto Protocol is the game im more looking forward to
You know how sad it is that that's news nowadays?
@Total_Weirdo What the original devs are working on, Callisto Protocol, sounds way more interesting than this retread.
So, being sold the same games over and over again is good but optional purchases in game are bad?
@RBMango agreed. I don't trust EA not to sneak something into the game in a few months.
@hypnotoad "They're finally learning..."
Its EA... they will never learn. Its in "their" game.
Not giving back pats for something that should be expected.
I can't wait. Visceral games took one man's idea and drove it into the ground (toy soldiers?). Let some new blood have a crack at it and see if they can take it in a better direction.
Micro transactions have no place in single player games ever!
@Kidfunkadelic83 True enough.
Either way, I simply do not buy them. Not an issue.
Usually I find this is just a convenient excuse to hate on a game or company even if it has zero impact on gameplay or initial value.
Oh well done. Shouldn't be mentioned or any in the first place.
So your not gonna rip us off.
game should be uncut just make a good game not a half ass effort oh well add that in after its released as a dlc pack for a price.
ah well im from the days you bought the game that was it anything new was a sequel.
Oh cool, so macro transactions then?
@Ear_wiG Well if it would have been done without breaking the feeling of the game. I would be quite annoyed if the Resident Evil remakes would have had a link to the PS Store it breaks the immersion quite bad.
@Agramonte Nope its just a immersion breaker Ubisoft is quite good at that playing a game and saying having tabs full of DLC in the gaming menu.
Its not hating the company but it does not make me want the games anymore. And EA is a scumbag company that promotes gambling towards minors just like 2K so they dont need more hate because this is bad enough already.
And dont forget they are the killers of a lot grand developers. Mercenaries, Burnout, Deadspace, Red Alert and im probably forgetting quite a few others.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yeah, I don’t know about all that. I played through the game 3 times and never had to go to the PS store to assemble a weapon in the game. Is this something they did later, as a shortcut for the grind or something?
just buy the original trilogy and play through guys.
I just read an article in which Motive shed a little more light on the game; saying that they're intending to keep the original level design intact, and add sections that Visceral had to leave on the cutting room floor - either from budgetary or time constraints - so by that notion I'm a little more positive towards the idea of it. It sounds to me that we could have another REmake (GameCube) on our hands? Therefore making the new one the definitive version? I hope so.
@Stragen8 Yeah, some people are suggesting they're lying about this, but unlike Activision, I can't remember a previous instance of them promising no mtx only to add them anyway. And they do release some games without them, Fallen Order being one of them.
Despite the meme of them being the worst, about the same as the other big publishers really, and honestly I believe them more than I would Activision on this front.
@Ear_wiG I think it was there at launch.
@stefan771 I have not played it yet so i dont even know if its the same yet. The Resident Evil 2 was a different game but also a remake.
this is the saddest article headline ever.
This is being published by EA, correct? Because I have very little faith in that, particularly since they killed the franchise with co-op, PvP, and MTX in Dead Space 3.
