Bandai Namco has pushed what we assume is the final character trailer for Tales of Arise. The well-groomed Dohalim is a bit of an all-rounder, able to fight at any range thanks to his mastery of both staff and artes.
Dohalim is quite possibly the game's most elegant party member, and that's reflected in the grace that he brings to the battlefield. His attacks are flashy but clearly functional. In any case, it's not long until Tales of Arise hits both PS5 and PS4 — the action RPG is out on the 10th September.
Think you'll be using Dohalim often? Don't spin your staff too fast in the comments section below.

I gave the demo a shot and admittedly...I lost a bit of anticipation for this game. The environments are gorgeous, sure...but I dunno. It also feels a bit too familiar. It's hard to describe...I guess I just wasn't really digging how generic the cast felt. I've played JRPGS for a good 15 years now and I feel like I've already met these characters numerous times.
I'll try to stay optimistic about it since the combat is fun enough. Maybe it'll be more interesting if I start from the beginning instead of wherever the demo tossed me into.
@ATaco Isn’t that most Tales games though? Symphonia and Vesperia are the only ones that I’ve felt really stood out and didn’t feel a bit generic.
@nessisonett True enough and that reminded me of a quote from the game's director a few years back.
"Even if the foundation of the game might be the same, we always change the story up, the characters, the music," Baba said. "We always try to tweak the battle system in a way that offers something new. Some of the stuff is the same, but I wouldn't say that everything is identical."
This was when Tales of Xillia was releasing and it seems the mentality hasn't changed. I guess I should keep my expectations in check and not anticipate any big changes just because a new console generation is here.
I actually didn't like the combat in the demo and lost all interest.
It's a spam fest just like the previous two games. I was hoping they would take a more methodical aproach to the series roots.
The last Tales game i really loved was Vesperia.
The series is just generic without the 2D combat. It's what made it unique to me. I liked the TP system cause it made you think about when to use your arcane artes. It wasn't spammy, it was more tactical. In the demo for arise i tested how much i could spam one move and it was a lot. Like 5 or 6 times in a row, after which i stop for a couple of seconds, and my bar fills and i can do it again. Completely mindless.
When it goes 3D combat it becomes the same as every other action JRPG. At which point everything else struggles to carry the weight of differentiation. It becomes generic.
@ATaco Yeah the demo wasn't good for me either. I liked the characters okay, but the sum of its parts was less than what I hoped for. I think FFVIIRs battle system may have ruined me for action RPGs. Everything else just pales in comparison.
