Well, there wasn't long between the Olympics and the Premier League returning, was there? With the football back on our screens, we suspect we're going to be a little more occupied this weekend. There's always time for video games, though.
Sammy Barker, Editor
Although I'm excited about the new Premier League season, I'll be enjoying a different kind of football this week in Madden NFL 22. I've already put in about six hours and it's definitely an improvement over last year's game. I'm looking forward to digging into Franchise more.
Robert Ramsey, Deputy Editor
I'm back on the beautiful island of Tsushima this weekend. I'm getting back into the swing of things in time for the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut. I know it's only a year old, but the game still looks glorious in motion. I can't wait to see what the Iki Island expansion brings.
Stephen Tailby, Associate Editor
More indies for me this weekend. While I'll no doubt dip back into Hades to try and get some more successful escape attempts under my belt, my priority will be I Am Dead. Newly out on PS5 and PS4, I've been curious to play this posthumous adventure game for a while. A review should show up early next week.
Jamie O'Neill, Reviewer
Following last weekend, I'm going to send Eivor to the Atlas to travel between Ireland and Francia, because I'm too impatient to focus on one location, when there's brand new Assassin's Creed Valhalla: The Siege of Paris DLC to explore.
Liam Richardson, Video Editor
I’m away from home this weekend so I’m afraid I’ll be defecting to the red corner to spend some quality time with my Nintendo Switch. Despite its ridiculous name, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Picross S Genesis & Master System edition. More picross games on PlayStation, please!
That's everything that's keeping us busy, but what about you? Let us know what are you're playing this weekend in the comments section below.

Dragon Age 2 on PS3. Not as bad as people say but I understand the complaints. Nor do I agree with the "DA2 is secretly a masterpiece" crowd. Definitely not as good as Origins.
Just finished Far Cry 5, so it'll probably be a mixture of the B4B beta and Hitman 3
Edit: the FC5 cult radio really gets in your head, right?
Going through Hades, and it's brilliant. Not into these types of games, but I took the plunge.
@EquiinoxGII it's on my wishlist, I've had a blast with all the other Supergiant games I've played, so I'm not expecting this one too be any less good
Hades...and maybe a little bit of Valhalla too.
Sly 3 Honor among thieves HD remaster, it’s been at least 15 years since I played sly 3 on ps2 and I can’t remember anything that happened in it so it’s like playing a new game.
Wreckfest - still chipping away at career mode
Steep - starting to really get into this now, nice easy game to chill with.
Fall guys - still playing plenty of this with my lad, but starting to tail off a bit now
FIFA 21 - well, footballs back on innit. Decided to start a career mode with Chelsea, hoping to manage a team in all the big European leagues (England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France) and lead each team to CL glory.
Streets of Rage 4 - dipping in and out of this.
Hollow Knight - still trying to give it time, but thinking it's not for me.
Added a few more games to get started with as well.
Batman enemy within
Batman Arkham asylum
Tekken 7
Horizon Zero Dawn
Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection
I had being playing UFC 4, but for some reason my EA play account locked all the games I was playing through the sub, despite it not being up for renewal for another week or so. I decided I wasn't that bothered and cancelled the sub. Don't think I'll miss it to be honest.
Happy gaming everyone! And enjoy anything you do this weekend 👍👍
Still plugging away at Yakuza: Like a Dragon. So distracted with various activities that I don’t seem to be moving the story on very much, but it’s a great game. Trophies are a little disappointing compared to previous games in the series though. Not really a completionist set, and sounds like there’s a good bit of grind in postgame.
Sekiro shadows die twice 2019 game of the year.and one of the greatest games ever made.and mafia definitive edition.excellent game.word up son
After 10,000 years, I'm free! I finally got myself a ps5 (or at least managed to preorder).
Looking forward to finally playing some ps5 games in the near future. It comes with Ratchet & Clank, but I'm thinking of returning it, since it's way too expensive. I'd much rather purchase and play it when it's considerably cheaper.
I intend to play God of War for the first time (only played it for an hour or two) and enjoy it at its best.
I might give 'A Plague Tale: Innocence' a go on the PS5, if I can power-through the first ten minutes.
Hades.
That is all.
I will be continuing my way through Judgement (PS5), what a game, I must have spent a couple of hours last night just playing Fantasy Zone in the arcade - taking me back to Master System days Heard Outrun is on there too, looking forward to finding that machine!
@naruball Ratchet is pretty short yea, so i would also wait for a sale ( Black Friday in a few months or Xmas ). Got my copy of Ratchet 2nd hands for bout 40 euros and trading it in at a local gameshop, so i get GoT Directors Cut on PS5 for only 15 euros when it releases.
Enjoy GoW! Such an amazing game.
Skyward Sword on Switch. Trying to get my old brain to complete the puzzles, a brilliant game which is so under rated
Devil May Cry 5 on PS5, doing a full rerun with Vergil. This game is so much improved on PS5, its the best in the series
Also trying to complete the last few races in Grid, a great racer but it's been a slog
Have a great weekend guys ❤
@AnthonyStark86 it's a very good game. The stealth is a bit clumsy but a great story
@The-Grezzly-Bear that's a busy weekend right there ! Enjoy
@The_Moose I think the characters and writing is great in DA2, shame about the recycled areas and lack of customisation. But very enjoyable nonetheless
Trying to clear some hordes whilst being brave and hiding up ladders, chucking molotovs and praying that a Breaker turns up for all those lovely ears and starts a turf war. Really glad I took the plunge in Days Gone.
Finished BOTW and the DLC this week - what a game! Looking forward to getting back into some playstation this coming week
Metro last light as I'm patiently waiting for got director's cut
@WizzNL thanks a lot! I most certain will
Strangely addicted to PC Building Simulator. Also hoping to start Mass Effect on PS4
Metro Exodus Complete Edition on Ps5 👊🏼
Hotline Miami 2. Gonna finish this up before the onslaught starts; which for me equals Tuesday when Humankind drops and doesn't end until January of next year. Finally, the summer gaming doldrums end.
Shenmue 3. Time to finally finish it.
Just purchased hades..have 2 weeks off now so i will be getting stuck into this and borderlands 3..have a good weekend folks and happy gaming..🤘
@naruball awesome game..epic on the ps5..
Still at it with the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Probably throw in Samurai Shodown as well. Also got the Neo Geo collection that was on the summer sale.
Control and GoT Legends.
Maaaaybe some Valhalla. I want to love that game but I keep bouncing off of it.
Cyberpunk 2077 and enjoying it a lot .
Playing Elite Dangerous on the PS5 while listening to Podcasts.
Pilots, cockneys, Russians and cowgirls.
@kingbreww that was a fun game. Loved the 3D audio.
Started 4th playthrough of the Game of the Generation RDR2, couldn't resist. Can't even finish my 2nd runs of AC Odyssey or other games but here I am. Can't get enough of the methodical gameplay, secrets to find, novel book graphics, outfits, horses! And then more Gran Turismo Sport.
Continuing my task of going back to the games I started then ignored/neglected or forgot about. So:
Laser League: have a few games - mainly against AI opponents coz don't think anybody else in the world plays this anymore.
Sound Shapes: last few death mode stages - Damn these are frustrating!
Dead Nation: continuing playthrough on Grim.
Bioshock Remastered: Maybe start collectable run.
...and hopefully some more Zombie Army Trilogy if my mate Dodge turns up online.
Have a good weekend and happy gaming all.
Finished the absolutely brilliant Final Fantasy VII remake last weekend and moved onto an almost equally brilliant game in Mass Effect 2. Not that far in but found a few of the new squad members and completed some side missions. It's a lot of fun but still thinking about Cloud and co, looking forward to playing Part II, in probably about five years!
Enjoy your weekend folks and COYS!
😝
Got rachet and clank about halfway through so far it's a good game enjoying it so far. Also been playing a bit of Hades on gamepass it's pretty good so far quite hard but enjoyable, although the achievement doesn't seem to be dropping for me. Might actually just buy it on ps5 as I think it's something that has a lot of replay ability to it. Oh and will be watching some footy Chelsea for the league this season I think, although not too sure about the Lukaku singing tbh.
Hopefully Diablo II: Resurrected!
Finished Life Is Strange 2. Really enjoyed it but man those endings...
Mild spoilers I played the good guy right up until the final two chapters of episode five. Then I checked the endings online (not wanting to be disappointed) and decided to go all ‘Carrie at the Prom’ to get the ending I felt was the best. Glad I did... some of those endings...
There are a few eye-rolling moments but overall it’s a pretty decent game and refreshing too - I haven’t played a game in this genre for a while (probably since Telltales last Walking Dead game).
Looking forward to playing True Colours now.
@HeroYoshiko the whole experience of the game feels amazing and next gen. Which is crazy because it’s only a remaster. A brilliant one, but one nonetheless. When the Ps5 truly ripens 3+ years after release it’s going to be a true beast. I’ll have to take your word on the 3D audio though as I don’t do headphones, not when I’ve got a $1800 plus Samsung Harmon/Kardon 7.1.4 soundbar with rear surround speakers lol. Everything always sounds amazing on that anyway 😊
Some more new vegas, I finally made it to the strip and am away to get my casino on! I played a bit more of the ascent on series x and while the world looks amazing, the gameplay has some weird difficulty spikes. Maybe not for me. Also going to try some red dead online for the first time since launch, have a good one folks!
F1 2021 and metro Exodus for me this weekend.
After trying for about 10 months, I finally managed to snag myself a PS5 a few days ago 🎉🎈🎇 it’s coming tomorrow c/o Amazon, so I can’t wait. I already have two games to play on it...Ratchet and Clank Rift apart, and Spider-Man Miles Morales. And of course there’s also the bundled game Astro’s playroom.
Plan was Hades for quite some time. But my thumb is already sore. May need to play something else alongside. Either a game that uses the triggers or a jrpg where I'm not mashing dash like a mad man
After 10 years of bouncing off it, Skyrim finally clicked with me (don't @me!) and now I can't stop playing it... but this weekend I'm making the effort to put it to one side and pick FF VII Remake back up from the start of Chapter 7. Let's see how strong my willpower is...
Continuing Shadow of the Tomb Raider which has given me the Uncharted fix I didn’t know I needed this summer. Veering off the short-ish campaign provides tons to do, love collecting things and exploring. Especially great is the focus on swimming and underwater exploring. Very charming game that also happens to look amazing, with some stunning HDR.
Also: pressure to try Hades is ramping up. I don’t like rogue dying games (although to be fair I’ve never played one) so I’m a little stressed but very intrigued to see what it’s all about.
Plus Division 2. Really can’t quit you D2.
multiplayer games , the usual , nothing new.
Neck deep in to FFXIV Shadowbringers... or should I say Feelsbringers :,(
Watch Dogs 2, and will take a look at the PS Store to try and line up a bargain to immerse in next
@Northern_munkey I can hardly wait to experience it!
Picked Hades up yesterday and it’s been great so far. Got my Demon’s Souls NG+ to finish as well and I might just experience that Abandoned trailer again as it’s just so awesome!
I'm continuing with Mass Effect Legendary Edition. I've beat the first game. I'm in the middle of the second doing the loyalty missions. After that, I'll be moving on to the Ghost DLC and then onto the PS5 port of Judgment. Keep in mind, that's over the course of the next two months... not just this weekend.
XBSX: Hades. If the game ever gets cross-save support I'll happily purchase it for PS5 as well.
PS5: Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC. I wish more developers would implement cross-save like Ubisoft. They'll earn a lot from stupid people like myself who don't mind double dipping games that I genuinely enjoy.
@Keith_Zissou I felt similarly after my play through of TLoU II. It’s devastating. I played Ghost of Tsushima directly after and found it to be both an effective emotional counter balance and somewhat complimentary concerning gameplay. It’s a thematically rich experience. Though dark at times, it explores its themes from a romanticized lens, with a more relatable, moral and introspective motivation than Part II’s more raw, nihilistic and extreme approach. It was an enjoyable double bill for me.
Finished Sackboy (PS5) and Kentucky Route Zero (Switch) last week.
This weekend I'm hoping to make some steady progress on Skyward Sword (Switch) and also start something from the backlog....
Suggestions?
God of War (PS4)
Persona 5: Royal (PS4) - not willing to start this just yet
Resident Evil 2 (PS4)
Resident Evil 3 (PS4)
Returnal (PS5)
Uncharted Collection (PS4)
Hades (Switch)
Hollow Knight (Switch)
There are many great answers to this question each and every week. But this weekend there is only one correct answer: Hades.
It is great! I am terrible at the game, but it is wonderful. Supergiant has done it again.
@fR_eeBritney I could not agree more. LIS 2 was a good game, but I was totally bummed by the ending I got.
The thing that was cool for me is that I have two sons that have the same age difference as the two main characters, and the game absolutely nails the sibling dynamic between them (under extreme circumstances of course).
Looking forward to True Colors, as the original LIS was also really good.
@Gamer_Girl_
Pyre is honestly so good!! It's such an underrated game. So many people slept on it.
Finished Returnal a few days ago. Was such a great game. Taking a break this weekend. Might play A Plagues Tale since I left it half way to play Returnal.
Currently addicted to Hades. Ichiban and the gang in Yakuza: Like a Dragon waiting in the wings to be finished tho.
Angry Birds Star Wars (Windows Phone) - Still having a blast with this one. Probably my favourite AB game after Seasons.
Equalicious (Windows Phone) - Still playing around with this.
Bug Village (Windows Phone) - Normally not into village management games, but this is kinda cute.
Ive re-played and finished Spider-Man with all the dlc, still love it.
Now replaying the Batman Arkham series. Haven’t played them in years.
@pocketjazz Yo man you got a fat backlog! I'm having a tough time making a suggestion!
GOW: You're already playing a 3rd person action adventure type with Zelda but the gameplay and story is superior to the Zelda game.
Returnal: This is a nice pickup and play game but you have to be ready to at least commit an hour or more to runs. Also this there are no saves so either you're committed to the game or you're not.
Hades: Very similar, nice pickup and play game but this one can be saved during runs so it's friendly of real life situations or switching to other games.
Uncharted Collection: Not sure of your tolerance for dated mechanics and controls but these games are only getting older with the first game feeling the most clunky. Pretty good trilogy and the games range from 15-18 hours each.
Hollow Knight: If you're a fan of souls games, and just being lost in a game world and discovering things in that metroidvania format then go for this.
Personally I'm not crazy about the resident evil franchise so I'll let others vouch for these.
Finishing off 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim. This game is quite good, even if you like me and very tired of anime tropes.
After finishing Final Fantasy 7 Remake, now I'll be moving onto the Yuffi DLC.
@kingbreww yeah can't wait to see the graphics of games on the PS5 in 3yrs. The 3D audio in Metro was the first time I've been able to sneak around in a game using only hearing to accurately tell where they (not using sight at all). Was an amazing gaming moment for me. Better than the 3D audio cards like the Aureal 3D back in the day.
Dodgeball Acedemia and The Ascent on XseriesS.
Might finally start Rift Apart on Ps5
New Mario Golf on Switch.
@thefourfoldroot quite a bit yeah lol think it took me about 30 hours grinding in the kamurocho underground
@TraCuz- really appreciate your thoughts! I've been really lucky. I took the lockdown situation and just dove back into gaming after not having played anything since.... 2009 maybe?
So the week we went into quarantine I was able to snag a Switch and BOTW. What a way to get back into gaming. Then I was really really lucky and able to get a PS5 really fast and the first modern Playstation game I played was RDR2. Since then I've poured through... an embarrassing number of games, but it has been fun for me and my partner. Since January I've played through all of:
Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity
FFVII Remake + DLC
Jedi Fallen Order
Squadrons
Last of Us Remastered
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Super Mario 3D World / Bowsers Fury
Spiderman Remastered
Miles Morales
Red Dead Redemption (PSNow)
Shadow of the Colossus (PS4)
Marvel's Avengers (PS5)
Limbo / Inside
Cadence of Hyrule Crypt of the Necrodancer
Ghost of Tsushima
Control (PS5)
Horizon Zero Dawn
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Death Stranding
Sackboy
Kentucky Route Zero
I'd like a major change of pace because I have to agree that most of the titles that many people gush over are 3rd person action. I don't think I want to dive into a huge open-world game right now, and generally don't enjoy Assassin's Creed-like games.
Hollow Knight I was immediately impressed with, but I knew that it would require way more attention than I was willing to give it. Only played for like an hour.
I've also played most of the heavy hitters on Switch. Not sure where to go next! Not SUPER into FPS, but I think I could be convinced if there was a satisfying single-player one. That wasn't going to eat up a massive amount of time.
Shrug, an embarrassment of riches. TLOU2 is also on deck, but, again, genre similarities.
Good time to be gaming and to have a Covid safe job that permits me to have an income and spend time this way. I appreciate any and all further thoughts.
I don't mind dated mechanics - I'm finding Skyward Sword is... fairly broken in terms of the combat, but I do enjoy cruising through a mostly classic formula 3D Zelda.
not a whole lot. I guess im waiting for madden 22? idk
@pocketjazz
Play God of War.
Just because
I beat Death’s Door yesterday, tried out the Back 4 Blood beta and started The Ascent.
I never looked up how many chapters there are in Judgment, but I'm currently on Chapter 6.
@Sorteddan the most common thing I'm hearing off the boards as well...
The relatively shorter run time is appealing to me as well.
@pocketjazz
I played it last year I think and loved just about everything about it. Made sense why it is held in such widely held high regards.
I started Demons Souls this week but have quickly hit a brick wall on progress so I decided to give Splitgate a shot and as a huge Halo fan am absolutely loving it so far. Finally something like Halo on Playstation!
I'm just a couple hours away from getting the platinum in Spider-Man!
I got Hades this morning, looking forward to playing that tonight. It’s the first game I have bought in about 4 months which is crazy!
I wish I was playing Axiom Verge 2 but read the article too fast and didn’t realise the PS5 version wasn’t out. Why can’t the PS4 version just be played through PS5… 🤷♂️
@naruball @Nightcrawler71 Hi there friends.
Congrats on getting your own PS5. Another friend of mine was able to get his to a few days ago. He is super esctatic about it and enjoying Demon´s Souls.
I would recomend both Returnal and Ratchet&Clank. Amazing visuals, awesome gameplay, great use of the haptic feedback and adaptive trigers and super fast loadings.
I kid you not, you won´t even see them. Because there are none.
Cheers, stay safe and enjoy your new Playstation 5 👍
Hi there fellow gamers.
Another weekend is upon us.
I´ll be continuing my Mass Effect 1 Adept Renegade Insanity run.
I´ve actually did two missions today I´ve never done before.
Crazy that even after 7 full trilogy playtroughs, I´m still finding new stuff. No wonder ME1 is my personal favourite.
Also play more online matches in Guilty Gear Strive.
I´m currently on Floor 9 with Ky, but this seems to be my limit.
We can´t all be fighting game Gods 😜
I might go back to Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. I was really enjoying the game. I get now why people like this franchise that much since the PS2 era. Mine was Jak and Daxter.
Cheers, stay safe everyone and happy gaming weekend to us all
@pocketjazz Hi there friend.
Wow, that´s a really good list.
My 3 sugestions to you are:
PS: that is an amazing list of games you´ve played this year my friend 👍
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
@Gamer_Girl_ It took me 8 hours to get to the endgame. I really enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything spectacular. I was happy to have it whilst messing with Yakuza and Death Stranding though. Snagged a used copy on Amazon for $20 and feel it was totally worth it.
@RaZieLDaNtE Returnal and God of War are both at the top of the list. My summer is drawing to an end so I am not sure that I should commit to Hollow Knight. I appreciate the feedback! Funny thing is I didn't race through any of them. Which has been great. Obviously spending a lot of time gaming, but still has been great to wade in the waters of so many great games. The only one that left me kinda cold was HZD, which... I know is maybe... not a popular opinion.
Going through the Judgment remaster (PS5) at the minute.
The game is pretty much identical to the PS4 version, but it sure is gorgeous.
Hey guys. I'm going to try the Back 4 Blood beta on Series S, accompanied by Art of Rally.
On PS5, I'm still playing Mass Effect 3. I've just finished the Citadel DLC and enjoyed it very much. Just a few more quests and I'll be ready to begin operation Crucible.
Have a good weekend!
Ghost oF Tsushima cleaning up trophies.
Picked up doctor who the lonely assassins, the game corrupts my trophy list, get error NP-32136-5 after playing it, can't sync with PlayStation network, had to initialise console to fix, have tried starting game 4 times, same problem every time. Have sent email to customer support. No plan's to start game again. I'm probably gonna start up Sinking City, completed first case last time I played.
Resident Evil: Village
Recently picked up Dirt 5, Disco Elysium and Returnal in the sale and got a FIFA 22 Beta code this week from EA so a bit of a mix for me.
Nearly completed Disco so will probably work towards the end of that then get on with Returnal.
Second turn The Last Of Us Part II On my baby PS4
Picked up Hades. So far its as good as everyone said.
@theheadofabroom it's fantastic mate, very addictive. For the price point too it's very reasonable.
Been travelling over the weekend so brought the Switch Lite and playing some Sonic Team Racing, Alex Kidd DX, and the Turrican Flashback Collection, Amiga on the go! Also have to mention the Arcade Archives release of Vendetta which is also on PS4, I'd never played the game before, but its a great classic scrolling beat 'em up and really worth checking out if you are a fan of the genre.
Got to get up and take the new greyhound for a walk and then take the little one to swimming lesson. Time for hobbies is shrinking but managed a couple hours of Vampyr tonight, will probably try to complete that and also do some more Genshin Impact when I feel like a change of pace.
@Keith_Zissou thanks, you too!
@lolwhatno I was thinking the radio, especially the versions in Jacob's region: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLu6_FOgZp3eh1KJVCcaxZ4RZ6WbMA5Re1
I thought the story was.. Fine. The gameplay was fun and varied, but the companion AI left a lot to be desired - it was a lot more fun playing with friends which is unusual for story driven games. The frequent crashes and physics glitches were annoying. Did you know you can swim up waterfalls in that game? Did it by accident in a mission and handily bypassed a load of enemies.
@playstation1995 Sekiro on PS5 is amazing!
@Gamer_Girl_ cheers! hope you get to enjoy it!
Wastelands 3 and probably The Ascent if it's good, if not than maybe finish Grim Dawn or start tribes of Midgard. Also need to get past the 3rd round in F1 2021 lol. This is what happens when you have too many unfinished mediocre games and no great ones, just jump around from game to game wandering the wasteland of mediocrity.
@RaZieLDaNtE thanks a lot, friend. Means a great deal coming from the most positive person on pushsquare! Have a great weekend
Still chugging with Ghost of Tsushima. Only on part 1, lol. Cool game that has me addicted.
While playing today I wiped out a Camp then heard the sounds of a wild boar. The enemy indicator pointed upward, and for a moment I thought this was going to be a moment straight out of a Pink Floyd concert (they had giant floating pigs).
After the initial confusion & concert flashbacks I realized that a boar had jumped down from above and got lodged at the top of two adjacent tents, lol. I dispatched it with arrows, it popped out the of the crevice, then I climbed up to collect my predator hides.
Good times.
Started AND finished Uncharted 2 for the first time ever. Wow I really get it now, truly one of the best games I’ve ever played, and am about to start Uncharted 3!
Diablo II Resurrected 'till i finish both acts.
Then continue my first journey through Dark Souls 2 SotFS... good game, unexpectedly different from Dark Souls 3 from a gameplay pov (many hidden areas, a less linear game etc.)
I still think Bloodborne is the best of the From Software catalog so far, the experience it offers... there's just nothing like it. But strictly from the Souls games, Demon's souls and Dark Souls 2 are better than DS1 and DS3 imho.
Anyway, enjoy the weekend everyone, and play whatever captures, relaxes and disconnects you from "reality" for at least a few hours
@Col_McCafferty A man of exquisite taste I see! Loves FF7R and a Spurs fan? Man City will be a tough ask of us today, but looking forward to hopefully seeing one or two of our summer signings.
As for my gaming this weekend, I’m just working through Hades on Nintendo Switch as I’m currently on a family getaway in Wales. Will go back to the PS5 version upon my return.
However, before setting off yesterday, I did get to play an hour of TLOU2 on Friday evening. I saved my progress right after stabbing some poor girl straight in the neck, who moments prior, was playing Hotline Miami on her PS Vita! What a great game! I’m only twelve or so hours in, but I just don’t understand the hate the game received.
@lolwhatno I feel the need to rehabilitate a little on calling the story 'fine..'
The villains were excellent, while the overarching story was kinda 'meh', and in a game where you're given so few choices it would be nice for then to be a) meaningful, and b) to be given the option to act like a deputy is supposed to?
Finally it really annoys me how many people jump on the "The Father was right and the deputy is the villain" but I can't figure out whether that's a failure in storytelling, an agenda Ubisoft are pushing, or gamers not being ready for subtlety or nuance. I shan't day more unless I can figure out how to tag spoilers on this site. I guess the non-spoiler phrase to use would be "the wrong thing for the right reasons"
@lolwhatno I really enjoyed the final Blood Dragon side mission, that was a blast, and I found the Jacob sections where you're in the conditioning loop taking out more and more enemies through the same set of rooms.
I hated almost everything about Faith's questline even though she was a really well realised character if you paid attention to the answer phone messages and various other lore scattered around. I mostly hated the 'oooh trippy' thing they were going for and found it just plain annoying. Some of my most memorable moments though were just driving around and a song would come on the radio that had lyrics related to something you'd just encountered, which made a song you'd heard before have these creepy connotations. That was really well done, as well as the ambient interactions between enemies which you probably only got to see if you were sneaking through a base on a reccy before taking everyone out by stealth.
@lolwhatno The general consensus is that the DLC isn't worth it, so I don't have it either. It doesn't seem to relate to the main game.
I 100%ed every region in my first playthrough, so got all the collectables. The songs from the vinyls were an improvement on the standard resistance radio, but I spent more time tuned into the peggy station as it felt more atmospheric playing that way, and I've heard the real-world classic rock tracks 1000s of times already
@lolwhatno I ended up buying the game for £6.49, I'd done about half the game during the free period and decided I wanted to see the rest
Finished Kero Blaster yesterday, aiming to get a little more time on Axiom Verge 2 now that that’s complete, might play Splitgate or FF14 with friends today? Maybe some Mario Golf too.
Played some Guilty Gear with varying results. I’ma see what that Hades hype is all about now.
I started the PS5 edition of Warhammer Chaosbane. Couldn't wait for Diablo 2 or 4. Hadda scratch the itch.
Also got some Back 4 Blood beta in. Meh.
@pocketjazz Hello friend. I personaly loved HZD.
The gameplay, graphics, the setting and story really got me.
I´m curious to know what didn´t click with you.
And you played some of my favourite games like
Just to name a few. And you played all of those without rushing them? Nice.
I should also get back to Sackboy. I was really enjoying it.
Cheers, stay safe and enjoy the rest of the weekend
@naruball Hello friend. Thanks for the kind words.
What can I say. Still not used to compliments.
But when I enjoy something very much, I like to talk about in a very positive and passionate way.
That´s just the kind of man I am.
Cheers, stay safe and ebjoy the rest of the weekend
@Col_McCafferty Hi there friend. Long time.
You are going to love ME2. With all of your choices from ME1, the great cast of characters, a very companion driven game, the awesome Lair of the Shadow Broker dlc, and that Final Mission that is SO GOOD.
A few tips:
Cheers, stay safe and enjoy the rest of the weekend
I bought an Xbox Series S....kinda run out of stuff to play on Playstation. The lack of PS5 exclusives is biting....played pretty much everything I want to PS4 wise too. As soon as they (finally) release a patch for Call of the Wild I'll be straight back to PlayStation though 😅
So I've mostly been playing Forza Horizon 4 and Gears of War 4.
Did try Hades also but knew that wasn't going to be for me...the beauty of gamepass!
Hades on Game Pass. Super fun so far.
@naruball he really is isn't he ? Such a nice guy
@BaronSqwelch those are two great Xbox games right there. Some of the best. Try Gears 5 when youve done with 4, it's the best in the series IMHO. Enjoy
@KingPev Gears 5 def on the list. I had a 360 before switching to PS4 so always loved gears. Had probably a thousand hours on Gears 3. Decided to just play the 4 campaign before putting serious time into the horde mode on 5.
@RaZieLDaNtE hey pal!
I wouldn't say that it didn't click with me, but I think it has to do with some of the earlier, somewhat similar titles I played (notably Breath of the Wild and RDR2). I went from not having played an open-world game, full stop, to playing (in my estimation) the two very best back to back.
There are a lot of things that REALLY clicked for me with HZD, in truth, ultimately it was probably just my fault for reading too much and getting a little bit too much hype up before actually playing it. The aesthetic was amazing, and I'm super into some aspects of the narrative for sure. I really liked Lance Reddick's performance, maybe my favorite element of the game. Some of it maybe felt... slightly half-baked to me? Upon finishing it I spoke with a few friends who really loved it and the way they spoke about it made me feel like I played it in a radically different way. For one, I didn't think that the game made it sufficiently obvious how to engage with some of its numerous systems. That actually might be my biggest gripe. It was too easy for me to miss (apparently) really compelling and engaging stuff in the game. I'm not a 100% guy, I typically follow the story track unless the game REALLY engages me. This is probably all ultimately a criticism of me and not of the game, haha. FWIW I do intend to play Forbidden West, so perhaps I'm just an unreliable narrator.
Of the games that you snipped from my list I LOVED the Star Wars aesthetic of JFO, masterclass presentation. Maybe the best implementation of the SW IP in... decades? Ghost was also right up my alley in terms of look and presentation. The thing that nailed every category for me in this part of my list was Control. I was astonished by it.
@BaronSqwelch Horde mode in Gears 5 is the best implementation of it. Multiplayer is peerless too
@pocketjazz with you on Control. My game of the year 2019. Ive since rebought the ultimate edition for PS5 and cant wait to play it all again plus the DLC
Finished my 3rd playthrough of TLOU and currently going through my 5th playthrough of TLOU2.
This doesn't get old, I tell you. Actually I'm having a blast with it.
Diablo 2 Beta, loving the new graphics.
@KingPev i tried the Switch streaming version first, and actually had no problems with it. The PS5 Ultimate is well... ultimate! ENJOY!
Played some Shadow of the Tomb Raider while I wait for a racing wheel stand to arrive and get stuck into WRC9.
My ps5 is under recording my playing time on these Tomb Raider games in a big way. Weird and the only games it has happened with so far.
Hades and back 4 blood beta
@Roqka I agree. Ubisofts cross-save implementation is great. I loved playing immortals on my Series X and the picking up on the go or from bed on my Switch. Great feature!
@KingPev yup. Always puts a smile on my face. Definitely a breath of fresh air.
@pocketjazz Hey there.
I see what you mean. Breath of the Wild is so good and really fun to just go anywere and explore to your own accord.
Have like 167 hours on it.
RDR2 is also phenomenal in both characters and world building. I do have some gripes with it´s gameplay mechanics though.
Also agree with you on Lance Reddick. He was great in Fringe as well. Loved that tv show.
JFO is quite probably the Best Star Wars game I´ve ever played.
Loved that it had similar combat mechanics as Sekiro.
And that end Boss fight...... You know the one. Great moment.
Ghost of Tsushima is my personal GOTY, so there is that.
And Control is awesome. Super fun videogame.
I really want Remedy to continue working in that universe.
You have good taste my friend. Just like me 😉
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one
@naruball @KingPev Hi there friends.
I absolutely loved Control Ultimate on my PC.
There are some amazing gaming moments.
Sadly, I can´t seem to play the game on my PS5.
For some reason, I can´t "control" Jessie normaly. She either stops moving or starts walking when I want her to run or sprint.
It´s very weird. Even more because that is the only game were it happens. No problem playing Ratchet, Returnal, Nioh2 and others. I want to Platinum the game, but like this it´s impossible..... 🤷♂️
@RaZieLDaNtE cheers, pal! I'm personally really looking forward to Iki island, too!
@RaZieLDaNtE weird. I'll try my PS5 version and let you know if it's the same. Also, you've convinced me to buy Returnal, but I worry I'll be terrible at it 🙃
@RaZieLDaNtE I forgot about Control! I'll give it a try and let you know as soon as I play it on ps5.
@naruball @KingPev Hi there friends and thank you both.
It really is one of the weirdest things. Aparently some people have the same issue with one controler, but not with their other one.
Also @KingPev glad you decided to get Returnal.
It is challenging, but super fun and addictive 👍
Just play the game slow and learn all the mechanics and enemies patterns. You´ll get there.
Cheers, stay safe you guys and have a good one
Hades and Maneater FTW!!!
I played a little bit of Plague Tale, still in Chapter 6.
