Game Informer's coverage of Saints Row continues with what is easily our most in-depth look at gameplay yet. The footage features two different main story missions, and although we don't get to gawk at any cutscenes, we do get a general idea of how the game's going to play. Spoilers: it's very much a Saints Row title.
It's a bit rough around the edges (Deep Silver stresses that this is captured from a pre-alpha build), but there's potential for fun here. Smashing cop cars off the road, gunning down gang members... It's not exactly reinventing the wheel, but this could be a solid open world outing.
Of course, the new-look Saints Row continues to divide opinion. Even this gameplay video can't escape a hefty chunk of dislikes on YouTube, and we can't really see the backlash subsiding until people have played the game for themselves. Hopefully it all comes together when Saints Row hits on the 25th February, 2022.
Wait, isn't that the same day as Elden Ring? Oh boy...

did the ai shoot back once??
Looks alright I guess but I hate health bars with guns on normal humans in games. You’d be dead.
@nessisonett This. I was going to make the same comment. It annoys me that a lot of games are doing it. I was disappointed to see them make an appearance in Far Cry 6.
@nessisonett 50 Cent (just one example) was shot 9 times in one attack. Guns don't always kill, even headshots. (not promoting them, hate the things, just facts )
Back on topic. Much like the first video this looks like OPEN WORLD: The game. Nothing really stood out except awful AI and the atrocious draw distance in the desert as the foliage thickened about 2 feet from the car.
That said it didn't look NOT fun and 10 million people buy Far Cry each iteration so i'm sure there's a market. Just not me.
Gameplay looks good but the cast still irk me. This needs to move from February as it will really suffer against Dying Light 2, Elden Ring and Horizon
Gameplay looks a teensy bit rough but they do have a bit of time to polish everything up before release.
How do they manage to make this look worse with every showing?
At this point, they need to stop with all the "pRe aLpHa" because it doesn't help.
@Originut Couldn't agree more
Did the series even need a reboot ? the game is supposed to be ridiculous
@themightyant
There is a difference between "Not dying" and "Reacting like nothing happened" after taking a bullet in the face. This is just bad game design.
I'm really liking the look of this.Disappointed in the last couple of Saints Row games but unlike a lot of people im pretty excited for this one.
@ThaBEN I agree it’s woeful, and a pet peeve like floaty combat, was just responding to the comment that “you’d be dead”
I'm willing to give Saint's Row a shot. I got into it with 3, and had a lot of fun with it ever since. I'm okay with a new cast and a reset that grounds it back in reality a little, so long as it remembers the crazy fun that made it worth playing. They're not going to show all that in early previews.
But I'm not saying I'm not wary. I don't do a lot of day 1 purchases, and this definitely won't be one. I'll wait to see the feedback after it's really, truly out.
cant stand the dirty dusty western setting ; hot take but i think they chose this lame environment to ''cut corners'' , its probably too much work to make a lively city and still have room for wilderness like GTA 5 .
really not liking nothing about this
Looks utterly generic.
For all lamenting unrealistic enemies taking a lot of bullets, well, I dislike spongy enemies as much as the next guy, but it's not much more fun in GTA when you die in a couple of shots either.
Realism =/= good game design.
And yeah, health bars are absolutely awful.
Like a hipster Borderlands with cars. But I will not be buying because I didn't see a single Starbucks in this footage. Big miss right there.
Do they care nothing for realism?
@Wazeddie22 Same. I'm looking forward to some crazy messed up stuff. It looks more brutal too which is definitely a better step away from the last few. I'm definitely gonna give it ago.
Hard pass until there's a big sale...prefer what little I played of Saints Row 2 or 3.
I'm sorry, this still looks absolutely terrible. It might be worse than the last time I saw it. It looks like a Saint's Row knock-off designed for Fortnite fans, and borrowed The Outer Worlds' gunplay.
