GTA Trilogy releases this week, and is available to pre-order and pre-load from the PS Store right now. For as undeniably exciting as that is, though, fans have started to feel a little restless: outside of a single 60 second trailer and a dozen or so screenshots, Rockstar has yet to communicate, well, anything else about this compilation.
Indeed, we’re still waiting for confirmation of the game’s soundtracks, which have historically had songs removed from the PS2 versions. There’s also debate over whether a native PS5 edition even exists – some of the language on the PS Store seems to imply the new-gen release is actually utilising backwards compatibility – and the label’s not been abundantly clear about how the new control scheme will work.
We’re also waiting on more robust information regarding the titles’ quality of life improvements: we know that it’ll be possible to immediately restart missions, but have checkpoints been added along the way? All of these question marks have prompted plenty of head scratching from forum posters, who had anticipated seeing more of the package in motion by now.
It’s not massively uncommon for Rockstar to do this, of course – we recall first seeing GTA 4 gameplay the day we put the Blu-ray inside our PS3 – but considering this is a compilation of remasters, many had expected the company to be a little more transparent in the days leading up to release. We’ll see what the rest of the week brings, but all will be revealed on 11th November regardless.

Soundtrack is my biggest concern. The licensing issues are a complex area, and it would be a surprise if they managed to keep every original track. But as of now, there's no clue as to how many songs will be cut.
Just don't buy it until you know what you are getting. Plus charging full price for half assed (if you would even call it that, as Demons Souls is a true remaster/remake)
Don't fall for the nostalgia trip
Yes, there's a PS5 version. The store listing clearly states there's a PS5 version (in multiple places even).
Here's the first place, literally at the top of every listing page:

I mean some people pre-ordered without knowing literally anything about the game besides that short trailer so I don't have any sympathy for em if it doesn't come out to par. They clearly weren't attached to the money in the first place.
Well, if you're stupid enough to preorder and THEN ask obvious questions, especially if you do it digitally...
I love these games and I replay them regularly. I platinumed them (except Vice City with the BS Godfather ranking trophy). I would love to play them with upgraded graphics. However, I am not buying them day one. They haven't shown anything. I don't trust Rockstar like I did back in the day. I'm happy with the PS2 versions anyway. The controls you can get used to after an hour of playing.
Not at all. I've got mine downloading the native ps5 versions now (you get a ps4 and ps5 copy of each game). They look great and having played the originals on digital, i can say all of the tracks seemed to be there. Surely it will be the same license. If not, get on spotify or apple music. Sorted!
@Loftimus I have no idea why there’s a debate about if there’s a native PS5 version. It’s just outright fact that there is.
@nessisonett there just seems to be a lot of hate for it at the moment. Now they are on my console, i'm proper excited though. Like a big kid!
I was only 20 when gta 3 came out now I am 40 can’t wait to see what they improved on
I lament no GTA 6 yet. They can stick this collection up their butt though all the same (ditto Bethesda & their Skyrim money heist edition).
@Lenny0521
I was 19 😅 so many of my friends played it. I didn't get on board until Vice City, so I'm still yet to play the "original" if you like. I can't wait 😁
Why are people wondering if there's a native ps5 version of a ps2 game?
I've been seeing red flags/smelling a dead rat around the pre-launch details ever since this was officially announced.
Despite the PR Spin from Rockstar's twitter, we know this project hasn't been handled by Rockstar but supposedly Grove Street Games that did the rather so-so mobile/ps2 classics ports.🤔
For a game vastly higher priced than those games we've seen zero in-game footage even though we know the game content/gameplay already so Rockstar's usual teasers surely shouldn't apply. If the enhancements are so great they should be singing from the rafters about the improvements!
Finally, the original soundtracks were by far among the all-time classic defining set pieces alongside the over the top DJ chatter & nailed the 80's/90's atmosphere so well.
Instead Take-two has repeatedly patched out songs on the legacy titles rather than renew the licences & yet despite pushing this as a full price remaster has instead gone radio silent on all questions about their inclusion. 🤔
I think their silence speaks volumes on what should be a beloved franchise!🙄
Pre-ordering a digital release with no incentives for doing so and having seen no gameplay is just asking for trouble.
Wait for reviews. Watch some gameplay. Decide for yourself.
People will buy anything with a Rockstar stamp.
Got the PS5 versions downloaded and ready to go. I have no doubt at all that I will love them. £55 is an absolute bargain for these 3 games.
How about buying something when you know what you get?
It's not like a digital copy will be sold out.
Wait a few weeks you get it cheaper andnyou know whag it is i still dont own GTA5 so im not in a hurry to get it.
Great game Vice City but for me it holds no real special place in my heart besides the soundtrack and really nice story.
In the end it will be around and cheaper. Call me when they rerelease Manhunt or Bully uncensored ofcourse.
I still believe its weird that they dont show anything. And the bull reaction i will put on Spotify to make good for it isnt a good thing. So i need to get a subscription for a game to make it feel like what i played in the past ill pass.
I wouldn't need to see reviews but I would need a DF technical video breaking it down to see what resolutions and framerates were getting, also I need to know how complete are the soundtracks.
So after all of that I would get it on its first discount on the store when it will also be all patched up 🙂
Um, if you can pre-load or shouldn’t it explicitly state if it’s PS4 or PS5? I don’t understand how it’s still a mystery.
@Jaz007 Yep, correct, no mystery. You can choose to download the PS4 or PS5 version from your collection page.
Literally no reason to pre-order this.
I just can’t wait to play them and I don’t care if there’s a song missing or a character different from the originals I’m not a fetishist, I just like playing good games to relax and these are unmatched good games with a sense of humour you don’t find anywhere else. As of fans complaining I’m not sure, maybe it’s more that people complaining (you’ll always find some on Internet) make a news, people not complaining don’t…
Just wait for the reviews and never preorder, especially digital games that you can't refund.
There is a native PS5 version as its on my PS5 right now installed and classed as a PS5 game, its even a different size to the PS4 versions. Why is there confusion over that?
One of the reasons I'm waiting for reviews to go out.
Part of me thinks it'll be a bit of a let down.
@VatoLoco47 Why are you comparing to Demons Souls? That's a full on remake while this isn't. Clearly going by the trailer remaster has had a fair bit of work put into it but i guess people were expecting the games to look like Red Dead 2 now or something.
Almost no extra info before before release day other than few trailers, I've heard this story before...yeah cdpr I'm looking at you
@VatoLoco47 Agreed.
Remake = put some effort in ala Demon's Souls, a lot of effort.
Remaster = zero effort cash-grab
Imho of course.
Remasters should be viewed with the same scepticism as horse armour was back in the day. (again imho).
I am happy to wait a few days to see what the games are actually like before I consider paying for them. The lack of gameplay pre launch is odd.
@lindos Remasters are a way of making a old game look and play better like say Mass Effect or The Last of Us Remastered. Its no real different to a old film being released on Blu Ray. I have no idea why the gaming community gets so funny over remasters when most of them have a shelf full of Blu Rays of films they owned on DVD and VHS.
@WallyWest Considering they are charging $99.99 AUD for it yes I do. Especially with all the money they make of Shark cards
It wouldn’t be so bad if there was an option, but no, you have to preorder it.
(Other side of the coin, I used to preorder games off the back of a load of grainy thumbnails in a magazine.. in fact I’m betting a lot of you guys did that with the original releases of these games. And now we are demanding to know the entire playlists 😂)
That’s why I’m not pre ordering. I just hope pushsquare/Nintendolife’s review will address everything you mentioned here.
@WizzNL
@WallyWest Bingo. Spot on analogy about films coming out on newer and better formats. Nothing wrong with remasters of great games, and I for one welcome them, especially now with such powerful and capable machines likes PS5 and new XBox Series. The Mass Effect legendary edition was the same price as the GTA definitive edition, and it was so worth it to revisit such as great series with shiny new 4k textures, better lighting, bug fixes, better controls and solid 60fps. Not every game needs a remaster, but for all time classics like Mass Effect trilogy, GTA trilogy, etc, I'm glad to see them get made. Would love Rockstar to remaster Red Dead Redemption next (and give us a 60fps patch for Red Dead 2!)
I fear the worst, certainly with regards soundtracks. There has to be a reason it's not been mentioned, as Rockstar surely know how important it is to these games. It would have been mentioned in the schpiel, or those trailers.
Be ready for disappointment people. I'm still kind of excited about these though. Not £55 excited, but probably more £25-30 excited sometime down the line.
@Netret0120 I have no idea why people pre-order digital games at all.
I really hope they haven't nerfed Vice City's OST. That is some god tier stuff.
I'm waiting to see gameplay videos, still, it's too expensive...I mean Elden Ring is £50.
Does anyone know if the ps4 and ps5 versions of the gta trilogy are the same or different graphically?
@tomassi £39 on the Indian store so can save a few quid for minimal effort but even at that price I'll still be waiting for reviews
@VatoLoco47 Its £55 for me what i'm happy with especially as its had actual work put into it.
@VatoLoco47 There's a world of difference between a remaster and a remake, they're not usually interchangeable.
A Remake is a new game built from the ground up. e.g. Final Fantasy 7 remake, Resident Evil 2 & 3 (2019 & 2020)
A Remaster is updating the old game with newer features like updated textures, models, lighting, controls etc. e.g. Dark Souls remastered, CoD Modern Warfare 1 & 2 remastered, GTA Trilogy DE.
The only exception to this I know is Bluepoint's games. I believe they are unique in running two engines side by side, both the original game engine and their custom 'Bluepoint' engine over the top. This makes them an advanced form of remaster, mixed with a remake.
This unique combination allows them to keep the existing feel of the original games, as it is the original game code underneath, while completely remaking the graphics, lighting and other elements from scratch. This is part of why they are the best at this.
But we shouldn't' expect that level each time. There are very good reason's no one else does this as it takes a LOT of time.
Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls each took 2+ years, that's not a realistic expectation.
As far as normal REMASTERS go, the GTA Trilogy looks FAR better than most. Entirely new lighting, improved weather, reflections and shadows, updated character and vehicle models, higher resolution textures, updated foliage, increased draw distances, updated controls.
While we still have questions (e.g. Soundtrack), it is definitely not half assed! But I agree always wait for reviews.
@WallyWest Wow Australian's are getting ripped a new one with the price
@themightyant Fair point. Guess it's the price tag that annoys me about it as Demons Souls is $120 and GTA $100 but turns out it's a region problem (Australia) as UK it's only £55 from one of th3 other guys here said
@VatoLoco47 £55 is the same as $100 AUD.
@VatoLoco47 Yeah it's not that cheap. Neither is Demon's Souls for that matter but I understand why that is, as it's nearer a full remake in lots of ways.
Although I just did a conversion and $100 AUD is £54.50. Do you pay tax on top of that? or is spending power just less there. i.e. it feels like you pay more relatively?
Cost is always subjective. But for me IF the GTA remaster is as good as I hope (I always wait for reviews) then I'll get a LOT of entertainment out of 3 full GTA games, probably 30-50 hours+ so £55 is worth it to me.
Good luck and hopefully a sale soon.
What is that saying -“Nostalgia is not what it used to be”.
I would sooner have a modern updated version of GTA V.
Let us consider that “V” was first release for the PS3. Way back in 2013.
I suddenly feel very old.
Don't buy it then until you know what you are getting. (reviews etc)
It's hardly like Rockstar needs the Pre-Order money anyway.
@VatoLoco47 because it's a remaster not a remake. And there's a difference. The Sly Cooper, Ratchet, and Jak collections on PS3 are examples of remasters.
I purchased amd preloaded.
I can confirm that they're PS5 versions.
Soundtrack, gameplay and censorship.
Damn I really hope they managed to keep most of the original vice city soundtrack…
@MKD88 I struggled hard with that godfather trophy.
Grab a sparrow with a machine gun you'll have one if you did the hidden package fly over to big empty area where you have that taxi fight and grab some rubber bands leave your chopper firing at a truck for a few hours come back and you'll have that last trophy.
