We’ve been banging on about Horizon Forbidden West’s snake-like machine Slitherfang for quite some time, but with good reason: Game Informer continues to tease with its recent cover story on the Guerrilla Games sequel, and this very short gameplay clip is mesmerising to say the least. It’s all been dramatically captured by – we assume – Twitter icon SunhiLegend, but goodness gracious this is mind-bogglingly good.

What about attacks, then? Well, the Slitherfang can fire acid out of a cannon in its throat, but you can of course dislodge that with a perfectly aimed arrow into its mouth. It also can fire lightning bolts from its tail, but you can remove this and use it as a weapon against it. That’s not all you’ll need to contend with, however: it can also deafen Aloy by emitting sonic waves from around its head.
As you can see from the clip, the machine is mind-bogglingly well-animated, and it’ll coil up buildings and swat you from trees if you try to stand still. This forces you into constant motion, as you dance around the battlefield looking for openings to subdue its many attack options. The gameplay just looks absolutely superb here: as we’ve mentioned a few times now, it’s going to be the combination of all these different types of enemies, alongside Aloy’s new abilities, that will make this title truly special.

That looks immense and epic battle.
Can’t wait for the 18th.
This is why I have a PS5 for their exclusive epic adventure games.
Those animations!
The first one was my favorite game of theps4 generation. I feel the second may very well be that for the this one
Outrageous, when I move my body.
Outrageous, when I'm at a party.
Outrageous, in my sexy jeans.
Outrageous, when I'm on the scene.
Outrageous, my sex drive.
Outrageous, my shopping spree.
Outrageous, we're on a world tour.
Outrageous, let's be it girl!
The mighty Slytherin?😁
I think this game is going to exceed expectations... if that's possible
Ah S**t my hype meter just went through the roof.
Might need to book a week off from work for this game, and it's very rare I book time off for a game.
Just noticed the 18th is a Friday, finish work at 12pm on Fridays so will be on it by 1pm so not to bad and the game will be pre download and ready to go.
I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but, it doesn't really blow me away.
And I still think this game could have been so much more without having to also show up on PS4.
This game is looking one of the top 10 ps5 games if the generation, at least.
Elden Ring and God of War... Good luck.

Of course if PS5 only they probably could have cranked it up a notch or two, but we are still in the cross generation phase and also with millions of PS4 sold and high development cost they need to recoup money back.
It will easy be the best looking pure true open world game of 2022 until 2023 when we get true PS5 exclusives like Spider-Man 2 etc.
The only game that might come close is Starfield as that is series s/x and pc only, but I doubt it will look as good let alone better as Guerrilla games are top end graphical developers.
Gameplay-wise this does look like a big improvement over the first, which I found pretty shallow.
@Dezzy70 You'd also be waiting longer to play it. They started designing this on PS4, so this is the game they were always going to make.
@get2sammyb
Yes that is another good point as well.
I’m very happy it’s releasing as is and in Feb 2022.
Can't wait to play this (most likely on PS4). Played the original for the first time last year, and it blew me away. I'm fascinated to discover where they'll go with the story this time, after most of the questions were answered by the end of the first game.
@Nyne11Tyme Most def
Those animations are superb. I was wondering how they'd do this, but it seems that one of the tricks is having the snake to burry itself and move underground. That would probably save a lot of complex object tracking. And it also adds an additional gameplay element to the fight, because it can presumably pop up everywhere.
@Medic_Alert No, you set up dozens of trap wires between you and the machine, and then whistle. Have an emergency route filled with traps and explosive wires if it survives the first one.
Is anyone familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh? That picture reminds me of Cyber Dragon/ Cyber Dragon Sieger
Can't wait to sink my time into this! February looks like a busy month for games
Looks stunning, the original was a real looker on the Pro, so this on PS5 should be awesome - can't wait. For some reason the blues on the robots in all of the screen shots and trailers really pop like a diamond, the colours are just beautiful.
@Medic_Alert on the harder difficulty settings you def had to use traps and plan. Of course on easy settings you could find one or two strategies and be fine but that’s true of any game
@lolwhatno I don’t get what you mean
Why do I feel like this thing will be the Rock Breaker 2.0? I look forward to despising this monstrosity. 😆
@lolwhatno oh ok that doesn’t really bother me. Link in botw didn’t move if I recall or the main character in the recent Praey for the Gods.
@lolwhatno you too
Apart from Demon's souls this is will be the main justification for buying a PS5. I've picked up HZD on epic game store for £8 in their Xmas sale (with discount coupons) After seeing how well that game plays on powerful hardware I'm a lot less concerned about HFW being cross gen. Playing HZD at max settings / 120 fps is just great. If Sony can take a game made purely for PS4 and make it look and play that well then I'm sure they can pull off a great PS5 game while still supporting PS4 on low settings.
Really hyped for this game most of all, looking forward to buying day one!
