Growing up, this author would list ToeJam & Earl as one of his favourite games. That probably ages your humble host a little bit, as the funky roguelike franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary this year – bummer! Anyway, you may recall a few years back, HumaNature Studios crowdfunded a kind of reboot, called ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove. Well, it turns out the title is still in the groove, as it’s getting a free PlayStation 4 update.
Among the improvements, available now, are larger maps, groovy present hats, and new power-up combinations for you to experiment with. All of this should breathe new life into a title that’s already infinitely replayable, albeit teeth-grindingly difficult at times. Is this a series you’re fond of? I used to spend entire days playing this with a fríend back then, the split screen mechanic was super cool, and we got quite tactical with the presents, not opening anything until they had been identified, piling up all the bad ones and saving for a randomiser.
I really love the original, dunno why I haven’t picked this up yet. It does seem like a game perfect for Game Pass, PS Plus or PS Now though!
I've owned this for over a year and never started it. I will one day though.
I really, really, really love the original Toejam & Earl. It's one of my favourite ever games.
I loved Back In The Groove, got it day one and still play now my daughter has become a big fan of it not the game I expected her to get into but it's great watching her play a game that I grew up on.
Just waiting for all the in game purchasing
@get2sammyb You, sir, have exquisite taste.
