Sony may be preparing a big PSVR2 push, presumably later this year, but that doesn’t mean it’s forgotten its existing virtual reality headset. A new promotional trailer published on YouTube earlier today showcases the vibrant software slate on the ageing accessory – even five years after its initial release.
The trailer mixes some recent releases, like After the Fall and Song in the Smoke, with a handful of upcoming titles: Wanderer, Zenith: The Last City, and Moss: Book II. To be fair, the device has been well supplied with software throughout its half-decade history, so you really can’t complain if you were an early-adopter of this eye-popping tech.

Yeah, I have 35 VR games currently and another 25 or so on my list. If you like a good range of genres, there's not really a leg to stand on if you think there "aren't enough good VR games to justify buying a headset". There are tons. This is the best route to go to be different from Microsoft. We'll just wait on the people who haven't tried VR yet to do so and some sort of way of helping motion sickness for those who suffer worse with it.
@Jayofmaya I think psvr2 will sell very very well
Just please Sony keep the price at 299!!
VR is a game-changer and the biggest evolutionary step the industry has taken since it became mainstream worldwide in the late 70s and 80s. It is the future, more so than the gaming subscription model or streaming platforms that exist and are currently being consolidated.
Whilst there's no doubt that the near-future will heavily feature progress towards Netflix-style gaming thanks to MS and others, longterm as VR matures the unparalleled immersion it offers will be irresistible. PSVR2 and the next generation of VR will build on the solid foundations laid by PSVR and Quest, and as the technology becomes more sophisticated and refined it will inevitably remove the current barriers some people may find off-putting, such as motion sickness and not being fully wireless.
Once it reaches that level it will seriously rival conventional gaming. Once AAA gaming can be recreated in a convincing 3D environment without limitations that currently restrain PSVR its easy to believe it will be the primary way to play games. Sony should definetly keep funding this technology. I think it's a really smart longterm move to establish itself as the only mainstream VR device manufacturer on consoles and build its brand and experience in this field because its sets them apart from everyone else. I think PSVR2 is going to change sceptics minds about VR gaming being niche and a novelty.
@BadPlayerOne you're joking, right?
@BadPlayerOne I wish. I expect it to be comparable to PS5. It certainly can't cost more than £450, psychologically speaking a greater figure than that would be a hard sell.
Moss 2 is definitely on the list.
@Integrity still it would be better if they can at least match the price of the oculus quest 2.
@BadPlayerOne The Quest 2 is more closer to the mobile range of headsets, PSVR2 is a more higher spec.
Just hope they can get these games working on the new headset 🤞🏻
Only thing that to this day keeps me from buying PSVR is the camera adapter, because it would most likely take a couple of weeks for it to be shipped to me.
Not really keen on spending 300€+ on something I can't use immediately after the purchase due to being a PS5 owner.
I'll just wait on PSVR2 and hope that it'll be compatible with the old games.
@AdamNovice I agree with what your saying but the wire is the big pay off. The psvr2 I expect to be leagues above the quest 2 but the q2 is just so much fun having the full movement. I've also had psvr 1 since day 1 but honestly if you like vr pick up a quest and resi 4. It'll blow your mind
@NeonPizza excellent post, fully agree. And I too lost my VR virginity to that shark! 😁
@NeonPizza I have RE7 and I loaded it up. I didn't even get past the opening screen of the dining table covered in body parts and blood/guts all over the walls. It was too much for me, I totally ***** myself said 'Nope!' and went back to rallying.
@NeonPizza I have no idea how you're able to play it. Why do people like being scared?! 😆
I tired the RE7 demo in VR. All I recall was a slight scratching noise coming from the other side of a door. At that point I took the headset off and decide VR horror isn’t for me. I’ve since bought Saint & Sinners but I’m still too scared to load it up.
@NeonPizza sadly since owning a PS5 my PSVR has been put away. I can't be bothered to get a camera adaptor or to sort out the wiring. So I'll just have to wait patiently for PSVR2 😊
@NeonPizza I agree completely with what you said but I will say the the quest 2 really brought me back in to vr.
Having had the psvr since day 1 and was really enthusiastic about it at the start it quickly gathered dust in the corner. The missus got me the quest for Xmas and it really is something else. I hate Facebook and only opened an account because you have to...bit dodgy, but the experience is fantastic.
PS VR 2 better have backwards compatibility, if not I'll just end up getting the next Oculus Quest
I guess on the VR front Sony is really competing against Facebook/Meta and the Quest2. I wonder how a middle of the road offer will work for VR. It works well for the rest of the Console space but I wonder if those just wanting to try it out will gravitate to the free standing Quest while those committed to VR will want the power of a PC driving it. Like most things in gaming content will end up being king and Sony will have to invest studio resources into VR if its going to grow the market.
@NeonPizza unless there's been very recent news, there is no word on backwards compatibility and given the different tracking methods, it's unlikely.

@tehKAMI you can buy the adapter on amazon for $15 dollars. I purchased one and works perfectly on my PS5. With the psvr2 without a release date, I figure it might over a year before it gets released.
@Mexigamer Shipping will still take a while, but I can at least order this without owning a PSVR beforehand. Thanks for the heads up!
@Deljo @NeonPizza Don't get me wrong, the Quest 2 seems like a great piece of kit but personally I don't think PSVR 2 having a wire is that much of an issue, I think most will just prefer sit down games rather ones with full locomotion. The headset being wireless would have added to the cost as well. And Sony these days like to competitively price their products now.
@tehKAMI you can buy them online
@NeonPizza The issue of a wireless connection between the console and the headset is not just bandwidth, but also power (batteries are both heavy and expensive), latency (imagine an extra 10ms of lag - a one way trip to hurlville), and reliability.
Basically it ends up being a really bad experience, so you either have a cable for a reliable near-instantaneous connection, or you do all the processing on the headset. Wireless just won't work reliably enough, and when it does, it's a degraded experience, no matter how much money you throw at the problem with our current level of technology.
@tehKAMI I believe the current PS VR headsets come with the adaptor for use on PS5 in the box. But you're right, I'd wait till PS VR2 to be honest. And I say that as a massive PS VR fan. Everything will be even better! I really hope they redo the big hits from their existing library ready for launch, as well as completely new games. Also, the PS VR2 headset better be a bit smaller and lighter.
