Ubisoft’s post-release support for many of its games is spectacular, but the French publisher has pulled the plug on Watch Dogs Legion. While it has delivered all of the add-ons and extras it promised prior to release, we do get the sense that if the title had performed better, it may have committed more support to the release. As it is, it’s done.
“The game has grown by leaps and bounds, with a ton of content to explore, from a sprawling near future city to an action-packed online mode,” a spokesperson from the development team said. “We couldn't be prouder of the game we've created, and we appreciate all of you who've joined us on this journey in London over the year.”
If you’re still playing multiplayer, then there’ll be a new season of content to unlock starting from 22nd January. Then, beyond that, the game will simply rotate between Seasons 3 through 5, giving you another opportunity to unlock anything you’ve missed. It doesn’t sound like there’ll be any more patches or improvements, unless something goes horribly wrong we suppose.
While we appreciated the ambition of this sandbox sequel, it wasn’t very good if we’re all being honest with ourselves. “No matter how well it runs, Watch Dogs Legion needs to sort out how it plays,” we wrote in our PS5 review. Expansion pack Bloodline, which focused on returning character Aiden Pearce, actually fared a little better by peeling back the release’s “play as anyone” gimmick.
Anyway, as they say in East-end pubs, that’s yer lot.

A bit of a shame really. I loved the second one but I’d only really heard bad things about this.
Gud. Bunch o' slags mugged uz rite off wiv this bollox game.
How did Ubisoft went from creating arguably the best and most important SP games of the 7th gen(AC 2 & FC 3) to what they are now? It's just beyond belief.
Ubishit now I’m afraid. Far Cry 6 was awful.
As for this game, so sad we still haven’t had an awesome game set in London.
K, but when's the next Rayman coming out 😔
or child of light. or wild getting reborn.
Well, maybe we will get that 60 FPS patch for AC:Origins soon.
@Bismarck I’m currently playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and it’s pretty amazing. The amount of detail is insane. Far Cry 6 was really good too.
@Bentleyma The only way you can enjoy Valhalla is if you have 50+ hours to waste & are not looking for a great product. I got tired of these bottom of the barrel open world games a decade ago.
These days when I think of Ubisoft I think of two things: Rayman (which I love) and bland 3rd person, open world games that all feel and look the same.
For Ubisoft to drop support on one of its games it really must have disappointed.
I thought it was good fun and enjoyed my time with the game. Bagley was ace.
@ApostateMage Yeah, I thought it was decent too. Good enough to keep me interested all the way to the Platinum trophy too.
It was my 4th most played game of last year according to my PS Wrap-up at 60 hours. It was a blast and very innovative game mechanics, ironically I was thinking this past week about jumping back in. I think the game ran its course like most releases and had a year of (a lot) of extra content, but because of the online component they felt the need to make an announcement. I do feel like the online part never took off as they would have liked, but I still feel the game was a big swing that mostly landed, I had a lot of fun with it!
And it won't be missed
@ShogunRok Ghost Recon Break Point...
I enjoyed the dlc (Wrench needs to be the protagonist going forward) tho resistance mode was a pain in the rear
I'm still kind of interested in trying this game, but I wouldn't pay more than $15 for it.
The actual game world they built was great to drive around in and explore. It’s just that all the characters, the writing, the plot and pretty much everything else was so terrible. It felt like they were trying way too hard to appeal to the yoof but failed miserably. And in the process turned most everyone else away too. Lesson learned hopefully.
Does anyone else think this is not a problem? It's over a year old and doesn't matter at this point. I don't expect new support beyond this point anyway.
Its was disappointing, story was bad, character voices did not fit the characters, very limited skillet , compared to watchdogs 1/2
Just a shame I couldn't get to see Albert Square...is it in watchdogs legion?? I haven't played it since it released lol
I really enjoyed the first watch dogs but the second was a let down so I didn't bother with this one
@BritneyfR_ee I felt the same about the second one , great environment terrible characters / story
Lol I thought they were plugging support only on Playstation platforms.due to a Microsoft takeover being in the horizon
meh watchdogs 1 is a cracker for me. 2 and 3 played a bit. but will play through with aidan pearces bloodline.
always replaying through watchdogs one and bad blood have it on pc xbox and playstation only triple dip on the games i love lol.
Loved Watch_Dogs 2 but fell off of Legion relatively fast. It's the only PS5 game I've deleted from system storage so far.
That said the world that Ubisoft created was fantastic, as a Brit exploring near future London was a joy! A special mention has to go to the podcasts which play when you drive around, my mouth was on the floor when I realised that they had hired the same people who comment in my favourite real life political podcasts to read these fictional stories in the game!
Overall I think that a year's worth of support for a title that didn't sell super well is probably fine, they didn't promise to support it for years and years and I don't see many people still talking about it anymore.
@Bentleyma I’m about halfway through AC Valhalla and have really enjoyed it so far. I still slightly prefer Odyssey because that era of history is just fascinating to me, but so far going a viking has been good fun. Not sure why the game’s detractors can’t grasp that different people may like different styles of games, but then, what’s the internet for if not for expressing inflexible, terrible opinions.
Speaking of different strokes for different folks, Watchdogs 3 was the only one in the series that hooked me. I barely made it thorough an hour of 2, but flying around on the drones in 3 never got old.
@Untempered-Link I had forgotten about the podcasts! That stealth Bugle podcast with Andy and Alice was great.
@ApostateMage my name is Bagley 😀👍
@nessisonett
There is nothing bad about watch dogs legion ignore all of the haters that talk about it I really enjoyed the game And being able to play as anyone actually gave me creative ways to pass a mission very easily or just being silly lol
@itsfoz
Ubisoft is not ***** far cry 6 is not awful stop being biased You douch! Watch dogs legion is not bad It was a unique game
@Nepp67
Sadly you won't miss it but many people who like the game will miss it like me I liked watch dogs legion If you don't like it you're not a true watchdogs fan
Removed - unconstructive
Games used to be finished and THEN released. Some companies still do this!
@Commander91_YT Lmao "True Watchdogs fan"
I do hope they make an other mainline game . I really did enjoy the first 2 I bought legion but never played it ,I didn't like the idea that it wasn't a direct sequel.
just cancel the watch dogs series while you're at it. first one was kinda neat because it was something sorta different. 2 and legion were awful. I liken buying a Ubisoft game these days to getting one of those cheap wal-mart 4k tv's.
@Commander91_YT lmao you and 4 other people in this world.
I haven't even finished the dlc for the game tbh so I don't care about MP anyways the game is dead lol
The best Watchdogs game was the fake E3 demo that looks unbelievable and then released like an Atari game. The gaming industry died after that.
I got the first for free. I got the second for free. I will likely get the third for free eventually. Not spending a Nickle on this crap.
What's awful is the fact that Watch Dogs Legion still has ***** Screen Tearing on the PS4 version. I'm honestly very disappointed and mad that that they didn't even bother to fix the PS4 version
@Nepp67 well I can tell that you're not a true watchdogs fan like me. I can frequently be found waving my phone at traffic lights while wearing a big coat, or bothering San Francisco. /S
Publisher delivers all the content they promised. Somehow this is a bad thing.
They did deliver on everything they promised, so I don't see the issue?
Noooo u cant theres still annoying ass bugs that need fixed if ur gonna pull the plug pls fix the bugs 1st 😭😭😭😭
@DNASTY the E3 Watch_Dogs, the E3 The Division, the E3 Anthem. I'd play those three over anything released today.
Unisoft used to make my favourite games, the later PS3 AC games were the best of the generation in my humble opinion. But I can't remember last enjoying one of their games. For me, AC is now so full of unskipable mundane busy work that its unplayable. WD3, set in my hometown, just did nothing for me, FC is better, at least it does not try and drag you into 150 hours of none fun but that's hardly an endorsement. It's probable that they have moved on from me as a customer but I do wish they would look at making some 30/40 hour tight single player games of their past.
Absolutely love the Mario + Rabbids, Rayman, and South Park games, but have zero interest in the samey AAA stuff.
Shame to be honest, this and starlink were probably the best games ubisoft have put out in a long time and both bombed
@Jaz007 Depends how you look at it if you preach liveservice and pull the plug so fast yeah then i see it as a issue. But my biggest issue that in the future you wont find any complete Ubisoft game.
@Ralizah Its interesting to see that the best Ubisoft stuff is in smaller, indie and platform unique games. I do agree that the usual triple A games are to much cooky cutter stuff.
I much prefer the tight storytelling linear game rather than climb this tower, control this area, upgrade this and that. Not much time to enjoy the vast open worlds especially the boring ones as I grow older.
@Flaming_Kaiser Oh yeah, I probably should have mentioned Child of Light, Trials, etc. as well. Yeah, they generally knock it out of the park with their smaller and exclusive stuff, but the big AAA breadwinners have become boring beyond belief.
It was just extremely boring, and the gunplay felt like i was playing paintball,I dont agree that their other games are the same I actually loved far cry 6 and ac valhalla.
@Ralizah stick of truth was great the sequel not so much,cant even remember what it was called ,something about arses i think.
@Bismarck not really ,I put 214hrs into it ,I dont have much spare time,I work 6 days a week ,got kids ,but wandering that world for a few hours a night with a few whiskeys and a cig was pure escapism for me,beautiful game ,ubisoft make good games I really don't see why they get a lot of flack, you get your moneys worth at least,I've never played a really crap ubisoft game to be fair.
@Amnesiac oh yes the podcasts were great, added great context and flavor while traveling around. Another part I loved was the Assassins Creed DLC with Darcy, it played like a modern day AC game, with actual stealth and assassinations, and the tombs were challenging and fun.
The only Watch Dogs game I tried was the second and I don't think I played it for more than a hour. The only thing I remember about it was my char trying to get something under some kind of bridge. Call me crazy but I had much more fun playing Just Cause 3 and 4. I actually finished both games and it have a much more entertaining open world sandbox imo.
@Bentleyma I agree mate. I'm enjoying Assassin's creed valhalla and I'm 60+hrs in and not even gone to lundon yet. Watch dogs 2 was OK but I wasn't that fond of the whole edgy teen/young adult vibes. I didn't enjoy Legion at all unfortunately but I'm always interested in what they bring next.
@Mgene15
I don't know why are you laughing It only makes you look stupid just in case you haven't noticed watch dogs legion sold 1.9 million copies Which is the highest selling watch dogs game ever made The game is more popular than the two previous watchdogs games If you don't like it that's your problem not mine It also has the best online mode compared to the two previous games So whether you like it or not watch dogs legion is by far the best watch dogs game ever made Case closed
@MegaNecroX
If you are having screen tear problems on your PS4 I recommend disabling 1080p 24 Hz mode And make sure your TV has game mode activated I guarantee you will no longer suffer screen tear because your PS4 will be forced to run at a max 60 refresh rate instead of 24 refresh rate Even if the game is running at 30 fps it will remain locked Even I am playing watch dogs legion on my PS4 Slim Right now at this very moment I don't suffer no screen tear I guarantee you'll be able to play all of your games without screen tear Happy gaming
@Nepp67
What's so funny about being a true watch dogs fan? You don't see me complaining Like a 6-year-old about watch dogs legion because I like all three of them I physically own watch dogs complete edition watch dogs 2 complete edition and watch dogs legion standard edition with season pass for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 case closed

@Commander91_YT LOL! you have shares in Ubisoft bro? relax
Ubisofts biggest mistake is making many games have a "must be online" and/or "must be multiplayer".
I'd love to buy ghost recon breakpoint, but as the game is online only I'll never get it . Consider that it sells for approx £6. And I'll still not buy it.
We need single player wholly offline games. If not, I won't buy them. Already dumped MMOs, division, destiny and the like ETC.
As for watchdogs legion it was fun but I only played as one character for most of the game. When the Aiden Pearce option arrived I wanted to play it again but I spent so long playing first time round I'll probably never go back.
Get it right ubi...Valhalla was dull, watchdogs legion was almost dull, breakpoint slated to hell...come on guys. You want some gameplay ideas, send the game to me during development, I'll tell you what's wrong. For now....I can't see myself buying anymore from my fave ubisoft franchises, those being watchdogs and assassin's creed. Plus what the hell are you thinking making games online only....
I think the base game was selling at GameStop for only $10 in the last few weeks. I picked it up, but I’m waiting to get the PS5 so I can play at the best quality.
@Commander91_YT Wait are you for real? Tho the problem could be that I'm using a 4K TV on a Base PS4. Game Mode could alleviate the situation but not sure by how much
I bought legion on a deep sale, I actually ended up liking it quite a bit. The whole play as anyone gimmick was the biggest issue. It just wasn't very fun. Itimited your playstyle when I think a single character with a progression/skill system would have been better.
I actually really enjoyed the opening character you play as in the game. They should have kept the character as the protagonist.
@itsfoz
FarCry 6 could have been great, but they screwed it up with removing the skill tree, adding the ammo types, and making enemies RPG bullet sponges.
Seriously, it was the same mistake with GR Breakpoint.
Ubisoft is more concerned with continuous revenue than just putting out a good single player offline game.
Maybe I'm just becoming jaded, but im seriously starting those interest in this hobby the more publishers try to milk us for every penny they can. They ruin good games in order to do so.
I loved Watchdogs 2 (minus the vehicle handling) but just couldn’t be bothered finishing this one. The gameplay was there but the missions were all repetitive & the play as anyone gimmick got predictably boring fast.
I feel like Ubisoft is the equivalent of a pet food factory now - churning out crud designed by the marketing & accounting teams.
The ***** that comes out of them is passable as meat, but I wouldn’t eat it. Neither would my cat, it couldn’t afford the micro transactions
I have a love hate relationship with Ubisoft titles that borders on abuse.
I never played it. If it pops up on gamepass I'll give it a go. Just to see what went wrong. It's not the type of game I'm into tho that's why never bought it.
They fixed all my issues with the single player campaign and I'm well on my way through my 3rd playthrough. I enjoyed it enough to earn the platinum. The multiplayer was unnecessary, in my opinion, and them axing updates for it won't stop me playing the campaign.
It's a shame it had so many issues at launch and that the multiplayer was so bland as it turned into a wonderfully balanced and admirably ambitious game despite its shortcomings. I hope someone attempts to build on the promise of the "play as anyone" gimmick as it had immense promise, even if the full potential was missed in this instance.
I do wonder, however, how many people who hate on this game actually stuck with it for any realistic length of time and how many are simply bandwagoning.
I was late to the party but I really enjoyed the game. The voices were shocking but that is the only negative comment I have. It kept me entertained for hours. A decent game, beautifully designed and good fun!
