You probably didn’t need a gameplay trailer to picture what MLB The Show 22 will look like on the PlayStation 5, but here’s a cinematic clip ahead of the baseball sim’s 5th April release date. We were a little disappointed with the visual upgrade in last year’s game, and in truth this looks like more of the same, although we’ll need to see unedited footage to fully get a grasp of that.
Sony San Diego Studio tends to go hard on new animations every year, so we’re more interested in learning about those and how they will impact gameplay this year. The trailer does confirm that Randy Johnson and Ryan Howard will be available as legends in the game, with presumably many more announcements to come in the run up to release.

Think i might get this. Ive really fancied a sports game as of late but dont like Football. Only issue i have is im not invested in any sport and dont know any players/teams/rules etc. Ive been so close to buying nba2k22 or Madden22 as they are both on offer atm but held off as i heard they wasnt great.
I’m going to play at 11 fps on switch. 🙃

Maybe the last-gen versions will get ditched next year and they can focus on a true current-gen version for PS5/XSX|S while the Switch will just get "legacy edition" type changes every year.
@velio84 Pretty sure some older version of MLB was also on PS+ at some point, so that might be worth checking out to see how the game plays.
I'll wait until the full blown PS5 only MLB before I jump in on Playstation (yes I know it might be a while). I am curious to see how it runs on Switch though. If it runs in a respectable state I might get it on there for breaks at work.
I can't remember which one I played but I had one of the MLB games for Vita that played surprisingly well even though hitting was pretty difficult with the sticks. That will also likely be the same case for Switch but regardless very curious about that version.
@Kidfunkadelic83 - If you want a less sim like experience, I thoroughly recommend Super Mega Baseball 3
Enjoyable, quicker games and editing available to ya hearts content. Has online mode and a championship / franchise offline mode too..
Only thing ya dont get is a single player career path / storyline..
MLB has been very good, but this may satisfy the itch and is somewhat cheaper too, if "taking a punt" on a sports game
Has to run on Switch so it obviously cant look that great lol
@Kidfunkadelic83 I wouldn't recommend NBA 2K22 if you're not that into sport. You might find NHL 22 or FIFA 22 (wasn't sure if you meant American football or real football) more fun to be honest if you're just looking for a sports game
Madden the Show 22……sad state for a once great baseball sim….nothing looks different…..guarantee all their efforts go into Diamond Dynasty….
@Germs73 This is pretty much what I expected once they announced it was to launch multiplatform. There is no longer the motivation to use it as a differentiator for the platform, so the business case behind it changes.
I expect that they've actually reduced the size of the team on MLB, and San Diego are working on something else as well.
Probably gonna skip. Have last years i can go back to and with it going to gamepass day one. No reason to shell $70+ for it
@velio84 think i was unsubbed when those hit PS+ mate.
@dellyrascal thats a good shout. I played the demo of 2 on the switch and it wasnt bad.
@allblaxx for me its about not understanding the depth of a US sports game. I understsnd the basic rules bbut with American football i never understood what was a good counter play etc and not knowing players names/backgrounds etc i couldnt ever really get invested. I did like playing the old Madden games tho.
false advertising. The poster made me think they finally made a cool baseball game with powers and effects.
@Kidfunkadelic83 yea i would go with what @dellyrascal said and go for something like super mega baseball, its much easier to get into, i have played mlb before and i dont know the best teams etc and its more like a sim game, really hard to get to grips with, but SMB is good as its more accessible and easier to get to grips with. I have SMB 1 and 2 and enjoyed both of them.
@Daleaf there is a free trial of SMB3 so ive just set it to download. Cant hurt to try it out.
Welp the multiplatform fears came true. This is no longer any different than Madden & NBA 2K now.
This is why I will always torch carry for platform pushing exclusives, besides a few 3rd party gems (Village), the first party bangers are the only ones going all out anymore.
@Kidfunkadelic83 ah sweet, didnt know there was a free trial for 3 might give it a download myself 😀. Hopefully you enjoy it, if not saved yourself a few quid win win lol
@Daleaf exactly buddy. Cant hurt to give it a go.
@Kidfunkadelic83 get Madden 18, nice and cheap with a reasonably enjoyable story mode. Maddens 21 and 22 are busted.
So lame. If this is what [San Diego Studio] is going to give us — particularly charging $70 to their own PlayStation customers — then, shoot, Xbox can have them — The Show, and SDS. Lazy. No improvements to graphics — last year was acceptable, but not another year. Same graphics since at least 2014, if not earlier, just more pixels and higher framerate.
I might play this on Game Pass, but only for a few innings, not even a full game, just like last year, and then delete it.
@eagletrippin but but but….I think they changed the base cleaning animations after the game the rake is now 60fps
Hopefully you can assume the role of greedy club owners that do all they can to maximize profits and slight your players. Or vice versa! I could see a negotiating mini game where a bunch of old dudes get together and go back and forth with the goal being to not make any progress. They could add in side quests like bringing coffee to the table without spilling it on yourself, or playing paper football with another owner. Oh! And a mode where you design articles or ads placing the blame on the other side while making it seem like you care about the fans more than the money.
Man I'm a genious, think about the potential. Lockout mode ftw
@AgentGuapo 11 fps might melt the damn thing 😲
Love the show, been playing before it was called the show… although it’s just like madden and fifa nowadays. So therefore it sucks now.
