Sony San Diego Studio hasn’t revealed too much about the improvements we can expect in MLB The Show 22, which will launch 5th April on PlayStation 5 and PS4. However, pre-orders for the new-gen version on the PS Store do confirm some tantalising new details, including the return of Stadium Creator. Once again, this will be exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
“Build your dream ballpark with a streamlined user interface and enjoy night games in your stadium,” the blurb reads. Presumably this means there’ll be a ton of new lighting options, too, as you can’t exactly play ball in pitch black conditions, can you? Well, you can, but it probably wouldn’t be pretty to say the least.
The game will run in 4K at 60 frames-per-second on the PS5, and it’ll support all of the console’s flagship features, including the DualSense controller and 3D audio. To be fair, it was supremely satisfying to hit perfect-perfect home runs in MLB The Show 21, as you could physically feel the wood wobble in your hands.
A series of Feature Premieres will debut in the lead up to launch, so we’ll find out a few more firm details then. Of course, if you missed the cover reveal trailer, then you can watch that through here.

i'm kinda disappointed it wasn't vlad jr. for the cover i know ohtani is a god tier player but i'm a blue jays fan and the angels will never win anything lol
@alexbolton2 thats interesting considering the angels have actually won the world series in the last 20 years... Vlad will get many opportunities as he is 5 years younger than shohei.... both are amazing
All I want to do is play an Angels home day game and be able to see the pitch
@alexbolton2 Ohtani seems like a perfect demographic cover athlete. Agree with the fact that the Angels are never going to win anything
Blue Jays should be scary good next year, if Biggio bounces back they'll not miss Semien that much
@Ahoyman the blue jays won the world series back to back in 92 and 93 they've been rebuilding since it feels like lol
@Gilvin itll be interesting to see i heard rumours they were looking to trade biggio but who knows, whos your team?
In stadium creator can we make the walls 300' tall so no one can hit a home run? I've had enough of walk, strikeout, homerun baseball and wouldn't mind everything kept in play. They could call it arena baseball.
In lieu of that can we make our own rules? I'd make anything hit over the fence on the fly a ground rule triple, force batters to learn how to drive in a runner from 3rd. Hint, hit against the shift. Chicks haven't dug the long ball since the 80's.
@rjejr There's a limit to how high the walls can go, sadly. But you can make them pretty high. I agree with you — nothing more exciting than a young phenom racing around the bases to leg out a triple. That's definitely more thrilling than an aging shlub crushing a dinger and then gingerly trotting around the bases.
Amazing that "night games" are something to brag about. Even if the lighting isn't dynamic, at the very least you would expect both day and night game option from the jump. Guess that's what happens when there was only one person primarily working on the feature for 5 years.
As long as it looks true next gen on PS5, held off on MLB 21 since I couldn't see much difference between PS5 and previous. Characters and crowds should at least be up to NBA22 quality at least. However I'm afraid even this year won't hold up.
@alexbolton2 Red Sox, we're in nice division there with the Yankees, Rays and (probably) an upcoming Orioles
