The latest PlayStation 5 beta firmware has begun rolling out to those lucky enough to be sent a code from Sony, and one change the update makes to the console is pinning the PS Plus icon to the very start of the home screen. Prior to the firmware update, the icon would move down the line in the same fashion as PS5, PS4 games. Now it's always pinned at the front for easy access before the PS Store icon and the Explore page if you're using a US account.
Essentially, you won't have to go searching for the icon anymore in order to easily access your monthly PS Plus titles or the PS Plus Collection, as well as any discounts exclusive to the service. Some fans seem to speculate this could have something to do with the rumoured Spartacus service — including Twitter user @ErFanManavi who shared the image above — but we think that's a bit of a stretch.
Other new observations of the latest PS5 beta firmware include the download/uploads icon now always appearing in the Game Base and new compatibility windows placed in the PS Store.

I'd find that a bit annoying to be honest, as I hardly ever actually use that icon. Hopefully we'll be able to unpin it.
Not a fan of this, why do we need a permanent tile for something we might use once a month. I would never use it as I redeem my ps plus games on the app
I got invited to this yesterday but haven't used it yet, does this beta affect making and creating parties with ur friends who are still on PS4, don't want to install incase it does
It's looking like NETFLIX YALL!!
Meh. Doesn't bother me. Just like the store icon that I never use, as I prefer the web store.
So that's one less game icon on the home page which I would rather not have the ps plus icon. Hopefully this can be edited or removed
@PaperAlien There are now 2 types of parties:
1. Open parties that friends can join without an invite - these are only available to beta users (but there's a beta with this feature on PS4 too)
2. Closed parties that people have to be invited to - these will still work with people who aren't running the new version
Heh there are a bigger OS demands from me but I'll just wait I guess. I usually get this ps plus off my home screen thanks to my games and this is driving my OCD crazy. Hopefully I can unpin.
That's... Actually a bit annoying?
As long as it still defaults to the last game I played or whichever disc is in I can live with it.
At least it's something I use, and not SingStar... Remember the SingStar icon?
@Shepherd_Tallon Yep, and it's still there on the PS3's XMB!
Still can't remove or reorder the Disney+ app from the PS4's TV UI so little hope of being able to remove this!
That said, it's a little like the PS4 UI as Plus is always at the left hand side of the upper menu bar. Thankfully the PS Store is always at the left on the lower menu bar. I take it the 5 doesn't have two bars?
Id rather not have it at the front. The store is fine as i frequently pop on there to have a look. Once a month i need to look on +, add them to my collection then not think about it until the next month. Absolute waste of time imo. Id much rather fill the space with the games im playing or.... FOLDERS!!
ALLM is working but still no sign of VRR.
Or maybe putting it at the front is a sign of things to come? (Spartacus)
@sanderson72 No it just has the ribbon with the game and store tiles currently.
It has two tabs above for games and media, but when you press down you basically enter a hub for the selected tile.
Hopefully we can unpin it. Logically who needs an icon in first position that we only use once a month? Even mores so when it's barely 3 clicks away in the icon next door: Store -> Subscriptions -> PS+
The things we use FIRST i.e. the current game we're playing, should be auto selected.
Now having the option to pin to the END of the list is more useful to me. Keep the games first but stop them disappearing.
Overall this seems like an extremely underwhelming update. Mainly focuses on Friends and Parties features which I’ll never use (I’m nearing 40, all the gaming friends I had as a kid have stopped gaming due to work or family commitments, or died).
Never really been a social gamer anyway.
Pinning PS Plus is understandable and will be useful once a month I guess.
Everyone saying it's annoying (I agree, it should be a Control Centre icon if anything) - tweet Sony/PlayStation and tell them. That's what will get it changed.
It seems to me this is Sony putting PS+ front and center. Let's hope that means the rumors of the service expanding are true.
I'm not familiar with the PS5 UI, but there is a fixed PS Plus icon on the PS4, it's been like that for ages.
This is Sony just equalizing, nothing more, nothing less.
@TheMysticOne
You're probably right. The icon being always visible on their dashboards is free advertisement.
@TheMysticOne That's why I asked about the 2 menu bars that @Shepherd_Tallon very kindly answered.
The PS4 has the PS Plus link on the extreme left of the upper bar and the PS Store link on the extreme left of the main, lower bar (same level as the games/folders are on)
Looks like the 5's UI doesn't have the 2 distinct levels and therefore the PS+ link is always going to be stuck at the far left.
I can't imagine it's that big a deal but to me zooming straight to the left (is it L1 or L2?) and going into the Store is of more use than the PS+ link being there as it is on the PS4.
@themightyant @CynicalGamer @UltimateOtaku91 @BenGar97 Just checked and you can’t unpin it. Sorry guys.
@CrispyMango92 First fix for next firmware!
Its a beta, thats requires feedback. People need to chill
Big fan of this to be honest. It should be front and centre. Little common sense things like this are more than welcome.
When are they going to give us freesync, 1440p and allow sound over wireless/bluetooth. Even the switch can connect to my bluetooth speaker.
@UltimateOtaku91 Tbf, they've increased the number of tiles on the home page, so although PS+ takes a permanent spot, overall more games are now visible. I like the option to make five permanent. It still orders them by recent date, but the ones you select don't roll off the end.
Guys, it's being pinned because it's going to be the Spartacus tab! Hopefully!
I got a code, but as I can only connect via phone data I'm a bit wary about how big the download is. Anyone have any idea what the size is?
This is a mild inconvenience at best, what i think most people seem to be missing is the line 'generation defining ps4 games now INCLUDED with your membership'.. Surely that's a good thing right?
useful if you want to just add the games from ps plus, rather than clicking around all over the store to find the right page
I just want folders for the PS5, I don't understand why we don't already have this
@Victor_Meldrew I totally agree with you on that its so annoying.
@Abarth_71 fair enough ☺️
Ugh. I just want a clean row of 14 games covering the span of the screen, why do this. PS Store is the only pin that we don’t even necessarily need there
I think there should be a third tab at the top after Media, called “Subscriptions” and that can house things like PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Now/Spartacus, EA Play, etc.
I think the biggest issue is the lack of it as an option. It feels very "it's our way or no way" I wouldn't mind if I could unpin it, but the fact I can't is a big no. They should tie it into the storefront.
I'm loving the fresh look they gave the trophies. Pinning games to the home section is nice too. Still could've done a lot more though.
@get2sammyb What is "a bit annoying"?
Of course that PS Plus - the winner of "most useless" - icon pinned to Home. SONY is really thinking upside down... While I was more and more upset by meaningless "What's new" icon on PS4, they came with whole new level and that is PS Plus icon. Unremovable, undeletable and finally ABSOLUTELY useless, because everything is accessible from Library or PS Store.... I histerically laugh to this stupidity of PS Plus icon... and they pin it into home screen... that's.... ... ... actually that "human being" who invented it, and think that it is "perfect" and "must click" icon should be given it's pills and locked into it's cell forever.
Things like this remind me how far the PS5 UI regressed compared to the PS4 UI. From seeing who on your list plays a certain game to folders to the What's New section, so much lost
Gotta get that Godfall Demo Edition more easily than ever!
@PaperAlien you can give the code u got to 5 friends to be able to join beta..
@PaperAlien I think it's OK if you make it a Closed Private Party
@feral1975 Just over 1GB
@ReddJelly @lolwhatno @Kidfunkadelic83 Agreed why the hell don't we have folders by now?
PS4 had them....though I'm unsure when Sony added folders to PS4.
@PaperAlien Have you got a spare code? You can use it 4 times. I have a ps5, applied to be a beta tester, and didn't get in. I am in the UK Cheers!
@redd214 never underestimate the power of the internet to experience negative emotions
