Well, this isn't the way we expected the Ghostwire: Tokyo release date to be confirmed. PlayStation has uploaded a new video to its YouTube channel that's set to premiere tomorrow night, and in the description, it mentions a PS5 release on 25th March 2022. The PS Store leak pegged the console exclusive a day earlier.
It almost feels like the video was set live accidentally ahead of time since Sony has made no mention of it on social media. Tomorrow at 10pm GMT / 2pm PT / 5pm ET, we can look forward to the Ghostwire: Tokyo "February 2022 Official Showcase". Bonus content is also mentioned for pre-ordering. It looks like we'll learn much more about the Tango Gameworks title in a little over 24 hours time.
Are you looking forward to the showcase? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm sure with this being their last deal with Bethesda, they just want to get this out of the way as quickly as possible.
AAA games don't usually get a release date just a month out. This also feel like a not State of Play, State of Play if you see what I mean. Considering it's a timed PS5 exclusive it's very odd.
I'm hyped for this game, I don't understand why playstation doesn't hype up this game more but hyping the heck out of deathloop lol.
I’m really excited to see more of this one! The Evil Within series is fantastic.
I feel like this is what triggered MS, making little exclusive deals with multiplat devs, they should've known M$ would come flexing their muscles. I kept questioning why SFV was console exclusive. Now here you are, releasing this exclusive on a month's notice with no excitement.
@TheArt “ I feel like this is what triggered MS”
I completely agree with this. Sony was going around buying up a lot of limited time exclusives, leaving MS with less and less. And you have to assume Sony can get the exclusives a lot cheaper than MS could based on the size of their user base. I feel MS just said “screw it, we’ll buy the company”.
Are there any games other than god of war coming out after March?!
Very excited for this but also incredibly SAD we will lose Tango Gameworks games on PS after this… The Evil Within series was awesome

@TheArt Sony helped fund Street Fighter V so that one being exclusive was understandable at least, like how Bayonetta 2 was funded by Nintendo. But honestly unless the games need Sony or Microsoft to provide funding that makes it exclusive I'd prefer for them just not to pay for exclusivity for a limited time and put that money towards developing another game instead. And Microsoft also did the same timed exclusivity stuff that Sony was doing with games like Deathloop/Ghostwire/Final Fantasy during the Xbox 360 era so both sides have been guilty of it, they also paid for Rise of The Tomb Raider to be a timed exclusive on Xbox One. Just seems to be more frequent from Sony these days and I feel like Microsoft's purchase will only make them keep doing deals like that with companies such as Square Enix.
Not really sold on this one, but still excited to see more nonetheless. It looks so different than what I expected it to be.
I was interested in this game when it was first revealed and they've barely discussed it since. I would have preferred this getting more spotlight instead of Deathloop being shown about 30 times during State of Play.
@MatthewJP There's Forspoken coming out in May, but this makes me think that there are some unannounced things for later in the year - if all of these games are out by end of March.
They had a showcase last year that focused on Deathloop and some indie titles, so it's not totally surprising that this is getting one too. I'm more exciting for this one than Gran Turismo 7's since we pretty much already know what we're getting from GT7, but this is still a bit of a mystery. It'll be good to get a much longer look at it finally, regardless of how long it is tomorrow.
Honestly makes me think there was a general State of Play featuring multiple games that was cancelled for some reason resulting in individual events for GT7 and Ghostwire Tokyo along with Forspoken probably being a big part of the next Square Enix Presents.
That's nice now where is Stray for PS5
@TheArt This is different to SF5. Capcom has said previously SF 5 would never have been made without Sony investment (similar to nintendo and bayonetta 2).
Deathloop and Ghostwire on the otherhand were always likely to be slated for multiplatform release and Sony paid for timed exclusivity (likely when they went to Bethesda with a big bag of cash in the hope of securing starfield, but were offered these two instead)
@TheArt SFV was part funded by Sony so it's not the same as that. However I partly agree on Sony poking the bear.
Though personally I think it was the repetitive "Xbox has no (exclusive) games" narrative that finally woke them up. And to be fair that was true to an extent during the Xbox One generation. There simply was a dearth of first party titles and studios. Even Gears and Halo were sub-par during Xbox One.
Thankfully they've turned that round.
Strange that Sony was going crazy with Deathloop to the point they were advertising it more then their own exclusives like Returnal or even Rachet so...what happened with this one?
Looks like if it was up to them they would release it today so that everyone can move on as fast as possible, like they are ashamed of Ghostwire or something.
Very much excited about this one! Sad to see Zenimax leaving PlayStation but hopefully this is a great sendoff.
@TheArt
I have to disagree. Being petty about timed exclusives is not the reason MS bought Bethesda and Activision/Blizzard; Game Pass is. They need content people can get no where else and are forced to buy in to Xbox ecosystem if they want to continue playing the games they love from those publishers.
On topic, I was interested in this game, but I’m not going to give a company money that is taking my hobby in a direction, I don’t like. Hopefully, this game is a sales flop. It looks like Sony hopes so too.
Really looking forward to seeing if this one is worthwhile and interesting. If I like what I see tomorrow, perhaps I’ll preorder
Looking forward to seeing this tomorrow. Has looked quite interesting based on what we've seen so far, admittedly not much
Definitely excited for this, loved Evil Within. But honestly, I think a delay to May/June would be wise, as everyone’s going to be too busy with Horizon and Elden Ring (among others) to care when it drops. They need to give it some room to breathe!
@frankmcma Yes! Testify!
Hopefully it's fun and different game than we get from the very similar AAA games!
Sweet it’ll be time to dust off the Duelsense soon enough!
@Hypnotoad107 not just the user base, but gamepass has made people wait for games to come on it, so even easier for sony to get exclusive deals.
@Sam_ATLUS Bioshock and Mass Effect too.
I don't think this game will be good. Seems like it's on the 70s yet again for Tango.
Game still interests me, will be eagerly awaiting the showcase tomorrow!
I have a feeling that this and Deathloop was a single deal with a single marketing spend requirement from Sony. Sony chose to over saturate Deathloop to the point of irritation in order to remove most marketing commitment from GWT. Seems like it was a but of a childish response to the MS buyout. BUT.. Sony may well know something we don't, this may be a real stinker. Time will tell.
This game is made for my brain, 🤣 🤣 🤣. I love this type of game, with the horror elements in the Japanese production, so what better way than this, it's like "The Ring" in a movie production!!!
@RevGaming Mass Effect was a SFV case, Microsoft funded the development (they still own publishing rights for the First game, like they do for Sunset Overdrive, EA cant release the First game alone they allways need the trilogy to use a breach in contract, Microsoft also funded ME2, the only reason It when multiplat was EA acquiring BioWare and renegotiating ME2, and funding ME3, and as I said, ME was never released on PS3/4/5 without relying on the trilogy.
@MaikonCSGarcia Cool. I can understand both sides there. I think ff7 is the same deal, ain't it? what about cod dlcs?
@RevGaming In the case of FF i do think so, not fully but partially funded by Sony, announced as a temporary exclusive, It was also the case for Rise of the Tomb Raider, Microsoft partially funded the development.(in the case of Dead Rising 3 they financed everything and bought the right of refusal in exclusivity for DR,4 all in one agreement)
But CoD DLC is just the same as Ghostwire Tokyo/Deathloop/Control DLC/Destiny DLC/etc Sony Just pays for timed exclusivity for something that would be multiplat
@MaikonCSGarcia So both did timed exclusives, but one hasn't stolen a publisher (yet). What I don't understand how people put them on the same level. At least with timed, well it's timed.
Idk. Sony has $10B specifically for acquisitions and they could go higher. Guessing they're currently looking at Ubisoft, Capcom or Square, but if Sony makes them multiplatform, they'll be looked as the "hero".
Sega pulls a few sales and anyone who thinks buying Konami over making a deal or buying the specific IP has crazy fantasies.
We'll see. I'm guessing Sony spends those $10B before AB deal finishes.
@RevGaming Well, yeah, but since Rise of the Tomb Raider (when PS community was 100% agains timed exclusivity) Microsoft stopped doing It to AAA games, Indies only have a 3 months deal (If It releases later It is up to devs), AA some times have 6 months but they also r usually 3 months, the only timed exclusivity longer than that IS thanks to estou access, Xbox does have a program and PS dont, so games can release unfinish on Xbox but have to get the final version before releasing on PS4/5.
Also Sony usually temporary exclusive masks, at the end of a trailer for 2 or 3 seconds, that when they do, they extend exclusivity, with Microsoft it's simple, at the beginning of the trailer it's a Launch exclusive or Exclusive, that is it and again Microsoft no longer does deals for AAA games, even most AA with exclusvity had Microsoft paying for part of the development.
@MaikonCSGarcia because MS can't convince devs to put their games on the least sold console. That's why they stopped doing it.
Can't wait for Capcom getting bought by Sony and see people changing their narrative.
@RevGaming we both know that is not the problem, they would managed to do it with enough money (and we know that they have It), they just judged that there is no return on investments, and nowadays they have already said that between paying/funding games for exclusivity and getting 3 months + Game Pass they would choose the second option.
The narrative will remain the same, lets Go back to 2015, Sony got SFV as exclusive and Playstation users said that was great, Microsoft got Rise of the Tomb Raider as a TIMED exclusive and it was considered a crime, unforgivable, the Playstation community, ignoring the fact that they were being hypocritical started criticizing Microsoft like there was no tomorrow, and remember Microsoft also financed some of the development. Xbox users Will say "Ok Its fare Microsoft Will buy more Studios" and PS users will celebrate the exclusivity and when Microsoft announces another exclusivity Playstation users will cry because It is unfair and Microsoft Will lose money and should sell on "the better/larger platform as Well", Just like the last 9 years.
Im not saying that Xbox users r not toxic, but in this topic, Xbox users are better.
@MaikonCSGarcia I just hope they keep the same energy when Sony gets their favorite publisher.
@RevGaming So do i, but there is only 2 that could be really be shocking for the Xbox cummunity, EA and Take Two, and these are above Sony's current options.
@MaikonCSGarcia I don't think EA and T2 want to get bought. It's free real estate for top 1 publisher, with Embracer being a potential threat. Bandai will love to be the biggest in Japan. Square and Bandai could merge.
I think the other ones are the target.
@RevGaming I don't think they want to be bought either, I just said in relation to the publisher that Sony can buy and affect the Xbox community. EA and Take Two are the only ones, Ubisoft is the only publisher Sony could buy and gave some effect on Xbox, otherwise most Japonese publishers mostly focus on Playstation/Nintendo.
