To the surprise of no one, Guilty Gear Strive is getting a second season of DLC and updates. The freshly announced Season 2 begins later this year, and will include four additional DLC characters and balance updates. But perhaps the biggest news here is that the game's getting cross-play support across PlayStation platforms and PC (Steam).
Cross-play has been a much requested feature ever since Strive was first announced. In allowing players to match up between PS5 / PS4 and PC, Arc System Works should have an easier job of maintaining Strive's community. Hopefully this move pushes other fighting game developers to adopt a similar approach.

This is best news ever. Gonna get my ass kicked by even more players now!
First rollback, now cross-play. Arc System Works is setting the bar for what we should expect from all major fighting games going forward. Great to see.
My kids and I have had our eyes on this for a while but it never drops below 38.88 in the US. The wait continues.
One of the best fighting games I've ever played.
Im in. Jam season 2 please.
Cool, then drop the PS+ requirement or explain why PlayStation players need to pay for online multiplayer while PC players don't when they're going to use the same servers.
Good news, been a little while since I played Strive. Might need to get back into it.
@ShogunRok TBH, MK11, killer instinct, Skullgirls and power rangers have been doing rollback+crossplay for sometime now.
But Guilty Gear Strive, as a Japanese fighting game dev, setting this standards will be far more impactful for the fighting game genre in the coming future.
@rachetmarvel MK11 is not a great example - its crossplay is still in "beta" despite them ending the game's development and it's only between PS and Xbox (no PC), it's only limited to casual lobbies (no matchmaking, no ranked or any other modes).
But for sure, ArcSys and Strive are not the first but, at least with rollback, they set a new standard (I mean, technically SFV uses rollback too) and new expectations for future games. They're big part of the reason for KOF15 having good netplay and P4AU getting rollback soon (as well as the older BlazBlue games getting it now).
Hopefully they'll nail cross play too (I'm not sure what the challenges are tbh) and others will follow.
@truerbluer It will never happen as much as I would love for it to happen. Microsoft and Sony make too much money off of it
Great news for everyone involved. It is well known that the PC version of the game is the best because of the low input delay in that version. Has ArcSys done anything to improve the input delay on the PS versions, especially the PS5 since it was the worse of the bunch?
Same thing has happen with the KOF XV PS version which also has quite a high input delay.
Not sure if it is a developer thing or a Sony thing in the reasoning for this high input numbers but I hope Sony can work with them in reducing the input delay with future patches of the game if it is indeed a Sony thing.
@Nepp67 I understand why these consoles have paywalls within their ecosystems even if it's a flimsy excuse you can still rationalise it by saying it covers server costs and keeps cheaters out. However my issue is only when PC players get in the mix with console players. Why do console players still have to pay for online multiplayer when PC players get complete access to console players at no cost? Console players are basically paying for the PC players at this point and everyone seems perfectly fine with it.
@Eadgar Well the October patch reduced the input lag on PS5 and PS4 Pro - it's still a little worse than on PC though. PS4 Pro version on PS5 is currently the best way to play the game on consoles.
@Voltan Understood. Thanks for that information. With Evo around the corner I wonder what platform of choice will be used by the players. Without a doubt it has to be the PC if they do not improve the input lag then.
@Eadgar I’m pretty sure it will be PS4 Pro. That’s what most major tournaments ran so far and that version is still pretty good.
@truerbluer Even then I would still disable PC crossplay for most games cause cheaters are on PC the most.
@Eadgar Unfortunately it seems that the PS5 and PS4 versions of the game will have worse input delay at least until Sony remembers that they promised VRR support for PS5. With that Vsync can be turned off (if your monitor supports VRR of course) and input delay can be reduced by about 3 frames.
At least that's from my limited understanding of what's going on.
@truerbluer PC players don’t have to pay for online because there’s no corporation or brand that theyre using specifically for gaming that can charge them for it . everything required for PC is basically “third party” - you buy the PC yourself from whatever brand , you go to steam or another online game store to buy a game , and you use your internet to connect to the games server . you may wonder “why don’t game devs charge to connect to the sever ?” , id guess it’s because you already bought their game .
meanwhile on console everything is more homogenized and restricted - you buy a playstation console , you buy the game from the playstation store using their servers/store all the while using a playstation account ; so they can (greedily) charge you to play online if they want for simply using their console brand and playstation account . even if you buy a physical copy , it’s still marked with the playstation logo and made specifically for their console , whereas PC games can virtually play on any type of PC that can run it .
