Guerrilla Games is continuing to roll out the Horizon Forbidden West updates thick and fast, with patch 1.09 available to download now. Weighing in at exactly 1.028GB, it makes further fixes to both main and side quests, world activities, and performance and stability. Most notably, it should now be possible to achieve 100 per cent completion in the Notebook.
And while patch 1.09 doesn't directly address them, the Dutch developer says it's looking into other issues like visual shimmering, a character glitch in the Blood Choke side quest, the Upgraded Every Pouch Type Trophy not unlocking, and Firegleam and Metal Flowers not disappearing from the map once interacted with.
Listed below are the complete patch notes for update 1.09. Guerrilla Games warns they may contain story spoilers.

Keep ‘em coming Guerrilla Games! Amazing game so far and I’m over 100 hours in!
I've been away for a few days, looking forward to jumping back in and playing more and now with even more fixes
awesome.
@mrtennis1990 same here. 113 hours with 70% completion, Loving every second. Enjoy your time in the Forbidden West!
No issue with plat on 1.08. Musta been lucky
I do like that Guerilla and Polyphony are rolling these patches out for HFW and GT7, respectively. Always appreciate some detailed patch notes.
Just hit 75 hours. Absolutely amazing game.
I've definitely experienced the fire gleam icons not disappearing at certain locations after eliminating them. Other than the often distracting granulation and aliasing issues that for some reason is being dubbed shimmer, I haven't experienced the other problems.
The "shimmer" alone though definitely takes away from the game's visuals, especially considering it exists on the ps5 even though this is another cross Gen game. I am worried now that this graphical problem is unfixable considering its been reportrd as an issue and aware of by guerilla since day one, yet no patch or communication indicates a fix for it.
Going to pop on to it right now and see if I notice anything better related to this patch note "Further improvements related to shimmering/sharpness"
Love that Guerilla keeps patching this game week after week, and the game is already amazing
Finished it, Platinumed it. 115ish hours. No major issues.
Great to see they are supporting the game so prolifically. Thoroughly enjoying my playthrough so far but there are a surprising number of visual glitches on PS5 I don't see mentioned in notes - regular pop-in of foliage, npcs, environmental textures and lighting effects close to the player which does detract from the experience a little bit. Clearly some streaming issues which is odd given this is what the SSD was meant to address.
Platinumed this earlier in the week without any real progression breaking bugs. A really easy platinum as far as open worlds go. A tremendous game all in all.
Still in awe at this game's graphics. The machine design is just incredible, it's not highlighted enough along with the unique outfits. I'm like 90hrs in and still draaaaagging it out because the side quests are really interesting and also important.
I was victim to several of these completionist ending bugs, so it's great to see they're listening to users' issues.
I can't wait to finally be able to get my 100%
waits patiently for New Game +
I am loving this game soooooo much.
@TheArt YES!!!! Same here. I’m not riding a machine to anywhere, I’m just walking / running from one place to another. It’s too fantastic to go so fast through.
@thechetearly riding machines is brilliant though, I'm constantly stopping for photos which adds even more time to my play through.
I actually got locked out of the platinum unless I do a full replay. I died on the final fight and didn't scan the boss during the second fight(the Game apparently reloads your whole game state on death, rather than effectively respawning you, like it's 1997 or something)
I wonder if this is "fixed"
Apex Sentry Scrounger... Hmmm... The only thing preventing me from 100%
@MightyDemon82 @thechetearly At first I was disappointed the Clawstrider is slow in traveling till I realized it makes up for that in fights. It's a beast.
Fantastic hope those patches keep coming! By the time I purchase the game I'm going to have a experience that will probably surpass butter itself 🙂
I can notice some visual fixes. It might not be perfect but everyone calling the game „unplayable“ because of the shimmering might only be trolling and have never played the game.
@KundaliniRising333 I’ve just booted the game up and the “shimmering” issue (though I consider it more of an aliasing issue) does indeed seem to be fixed. I’ve only played for about half an hour since the patch dropped, and have largely stayed in one area, so it may not be completely eradicated. So far though the signs are good.
@Nightcrawler71 I've noticed an improvement as well. The only aspect it remains is on smaller non tree foliage/vegetation. But as far as like mid to longer depth of field the general problem definitely looks better.
kudos to it at least being worked on!
Dang, this update didn't help one of the quests that was 'bricked' for me. It just moved the marker to another dead end. In 'Shining Example', if you destroy the vines before the bird fight, it won't detect that the vines are gone. Now it tells me to pick up the greenshine which I already did, so there's nothing to pick up. The completionist in me is going crazy right now...
They fixed the Firegleam icons in patch 1.08. Not sure why it got mentioned here as something they are still looking into.
@KilloWertz there were still instances where some (not all) icons remain on the map. The previous patch made a big difference but I still had fire gleam and flowers stay on the map even after clearing them
@ChrisDeku Comment like this are why I still haven't started my copy of the game, despite owning it since launch.
Hopefully your issue will be fixed/patched by the time I start playing.
Finally upgraded to PS5 yesterday from an OG PS4. Ready to keep playing it in its full glory! 60fps is incredible!
@KundaliniRising333 Ok after several hours and locations i can confirm the "grainy shimmer" is still terrible and existent constantly.
@KilloWertz because they didnt fix it. I still have a destroyed firegleam icon on my map right now
Forgot the most important patch feature not in the patch notes: skip the harvest animations is now an option in the menu
