Sony Pictures just closed out a Meta Quest livestream with the reveal of Ghostbusters VR, developed by Fracked creator nDreams – but there’s currently no word of the game coming to PSVR2. The game – which was introduced by Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg himself – was revealed with a cinematic trailer, so is likely still somewhat early in development, but will feature an “extensive and engrossing campaign”. You’ll be able to play either solo or with up to three other friends in co-op.
“Strap on your proton pack and step into the world of Ghostbusters in immersive virtual reality,” the official website teases. “Start your Ghostbusters HQ in a new city, San Francisco, and solve a deep mystery across a new chapter in the Ghostbusters universe. Track, blast, and trap ghosts in gripping encounters by wielding iconic equipment.”
We know that nDreams is working with PSVR2, so it seems likely this will come to Sony’s headset eventually, but there’s no comment on that at the time of publication – bizarre considering Sony Pictures holds the rights to the Ghostbusters franchise. In the meantime, a non-VR asymmetric multiplayer game named Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed has been announced for PS5 and PS4, so it’s a good time to be a fan of the iconic film franchise.

A Sony Company working against another Part of the Company like always lol. Imagine making a Deal with your biggest VR Rival. Same as Sony Music publishing Games only on Switch and PC
If I recall there was that Ghostbusters on PSVR made by Sony Pictures which was supposedly quite awful, short, and over priced. So smart they partnered with a developer who knows what they are doing, but agree it's quite odd PSVR 2 isn't mentioned.
@Jayslow Its not mentioned because they made an exclusive Deal with Facebook lol. Could have been a Launch Game for PSVR2 but sadly Sony Departments do not know how to work with each other. Imagine Microsoft or Nintendo doing the same lol
Hopefully they are just holding these announcements for one big blowout PSVR2 State of Play.
I can’t wait.
Looks like fun. PC or PSVR2 - either way, on the list.
I'd put money on it being a quest 2 exclusive
The only good Ghostbusters game to me personally was that PS3 game. Everything before and after that has just been mediocre at best or outright terrible. That being said this is only a Teaser so I can't really form an opinion yet.
Pre-rendered trailers like this are so lousy. On top of that I guess the studio is going for a Fortnite look... sigh.
I'll stick to the ps3 game. Even came bundled with the movie BluRay.
The PS3 game is amazing.
@Jayslow it probably isn’t mentioned because there’s not been much mention of any games yet. They are gonna hit us with a psvr2 lineup that will blow our minds.. mark my words
@SoulChimera exactly, and it will end with alyx 😉
I’d love a Ghostbusters game based on the 80s-90s cartoon The Real Ghostbusters.
Hopefully you can play the game non-VR… I can’t play games in VR as they make me nauseous and also somehow activate an old eye injury I had years ago. Love Ghostbusters, so would love to enjoy any game they’re involved in.
Vr ghostbusters yeh 👍isometric ghostbusters boo 👎
Firstoff - the prerendered trailer looks really bad. And it's not representative of the simple cartoon-world graphics that the Ques2 is only capable of. (beside the PSVR1, I have a Q2.. and while many games are def fun, this thing clearly needs more power to reach virtual "reality". Its virtual cartoon-ality. Even the old PSVR1 has more impressive visuals despite the lower resolution).
So yeah, since Quest2 is only half of the teraflop power of a base PS4, so I would hope that PSVR2 wouldn't get the same game with simplified geometry. If anything something built for a Quest2 is more suited to PSVR1.
When they are releasing a graphically superior game for PCVR, that's when I expect to see a PSVR2 version. Both are x86 machines so it would port over easily - with improvements for PSVR2's tech of course.
Still though - that trailer looks like it's going to be a trash game even IF the PCVR/PSVR2 game looked identical.
@RubyCarbuncle The Mega Drive game is OK I'd say.
Still regret paying full price for Ghostbusters 2 on my Commodore 64, it was a really bad game and by the time I got to the second level (it forced you to reload the first stage which took 5-10 mins, even if you lost there), it wouldn't load off the cassette anyway. I finally played the second stage on an emulator years later, and it was as bad as the first.
The PS3 / PS4 remaster is the best. I liked the Wii version too, but it was prone to crashing on a particular later level, and being on the Wii, it was never patched.
Hopefully there will be a non vr version i played a bit of star wars squadrons in vr but finished it up non vr. Don't really like playing long games in vr. My vr is just gathering dust these day and don't feel that interested in it to want the next lot.
I love Ghostbusters - so I'll avoid this random shooter by huge curve.
Well, just the teaser made me a little motion sick, so I guess even if it does come to PSVR2, it's going to have to be a miss for me.
@Ristar24 Lol oh my goodness I thought I would be the only person here who remembered the Commodore 64 version of Ghostbusters 2. Lmao oh man thank God loading games from Cassette Tapes is no longer a thing. The loading times with some games was just absurd 😂
@Ristar24 @tameshiyaku @get2sammyb @RubyCarbuncle Agreed guys, far as I'm concerned the PS3 game is a true sequel to Ghostbusters II (I do still enjoy Afterlife though, future looks bright).
Shame we never got another Ghostbusters game like that.
@RubyCarbuncle Ha, yes, Ghostbusters 2 was one of the worst... after 5 mins of confusing gameplay, 'rewind tape and press play'. At least games like The Last Ninja got multi load right, allowing you to keep continuing from the level you were on.
@Agramonte It's neither of those, the clue is in the Ghostbusters logo, which is wearing a Quest 2 headset. Meta paid for the development of this game, it's a Quest 2 exclusive.
@Jam78 There won't be a non VR version, the game is a Quest 2 exclusive.
@Acurisur
We will see. Lone Echo 1 and 2 and First Contact where all 'Oculus Exclusive" and I played them via SteamVR+ReVive.
It is PC - where here there is a will, there is a way.
