EA will release the PlayStation 5 remake (and Xbox Series X|S and PC) of its survival horror classic Dead Space on 27th January 2023, it has been confirmed. The project takes the 2008 original and brings it into the modern era with better visuals and audio to achieve "a new level of immersion and quality" on the Frostbite engine. According to Venture Beat, a gameplay reveal is planned for October, but the official press release makes no mention of this.
Alongside today's announcement was a livestream hosted by development team EA Motive, which covered the art of the remake. It revealed how the visuals have evolved in the time since the first game and what some environments, tools, and objects will look like. You can check out the full livestream through the link.
"Moreover, by combining enhancements like dynamic, volumetric lighting with atmospheric and environmental VFX rendered in full-HDR, Dead Space allows players to confront the frighteningly tight corridors and shadowed hallways of the USG Ishimura with unprecedented levels of immersion for the beloved franchise," the press release reads.
The Dead Space remake is now the first PS5 title officially dated for 2023. That is until it's delayed, right? Let's hope there isn't one in the comments below.

One of my all time favourite games. Don't mess this up EA! If it's like ME: Legendary Edition then I'm there day one.
The fact itโs releasing 15 years after the original just made me physically ill for a few seconds.
this will have to be a hell of a game to be better than the original.
Here's to hoping! Dead Space is one of my all time favorites......so I'm hoping Motive does justice to a STILL terrific title!!!
Can't wait to be scared out of my wits yet again
This was a great game, im pretty up for a revisit and it looks like they are doing a good job of this..
One of the few PS5 games I'm hyped for is a PS3 game lol
Either way, hopefully DS2 will get a proper remake as well
I can't wait. Love me some Dead Space.
I hope they make the fact that one necromorph taking out an entire military vessel gets rewritten. The one thing that held the story back.
goddamn 2023 ?
@The_Moose Well the Ishimura wasn't a military vessel... It was a mining and Medical research vessel. So there was very few/if any ACTUAL military personnel, and mostly basic security personnel.
Also that one necromorph quickly turned into twenty once it gained access to the Morgue.
@Floki Nah not the Ishimura. About halfway through the game a military vessel (USS Kelion I think) reacts to a distress beacon you send out with Hammond.
Unfortunately it picks up an escape pod you jettisoned earlier containing a Necromorph which promptly kills all the soldiers on board.
That's what I was referring to.
Really looking forward to this but I wish they were doing a remaster of the original trilogy too.
Please take full advantage of the DuelSense and Pulse headset.
Curious to see how this will stack up against The Callisto Protocol (from the actual creator of Dead Space), which is still scheduled for 2022.
@The_Moose USG Kellion wasn't a vessel. It was a shuttle with like 5 crew. Lmao. 2 of which was a computer specialist and Engineer (Issac)... and the others minus Hammond was the pilots... One was killed by a slasher and other was kill by... I don't remember. Effectively, there was actually really no soliders aboard any of the ships.
Iโve been playing Dead Space on PS3 and it still holds up. Really looking forward to seeing some gameplay of this.
Lmao I'm way off.
USM Valor was the military ship.
After seeing some comments online.... were people expecting it this year!?
@The_Moose Okay... So yeah. That was the military ship. But it exactly wasn't one necromorph. If I remember the Valor crew did well holding their own, but lost control of the ship, and pull along side to close to Ishimura. Eventually the horde board the Valor from the Ishimura, and that when they lost ground.
No the Necromorph gets picked up by the Valor, the chaos this one necromorph causes makes the Valor crash into the Ishimura (which as you say then probably allows more Necs to board).
I took issue and always have whenever I played it after that the one Necromorph gets aboard and causes that much damage. Fair enough element of surprise and all that but surely not enough to send it into the Ishimura due to what I presume a dead crew.
@The_Moose One necromorph get picked up the Valor, but it didn't complete ransacked the entire ship alone. All it takes is one necromorph to kill an unexpected soldier or find any dead body to turn into 100 necromorph running through the ship. The necromorph are basically the flood. Lmao
Best news of today.dead space is one of the best games ever.cant wait.word up son
Gamers you better support this masterpiece. Prove EA wrong, and tell them that horror games can sell really well.
@truerbluer we must be due a Callisto Protocol gameplay reveal soon. Canโt wait to see
This should look and hopefully play incredible, that being said I still want remasters of the original games with the same amount of effort and quality as the ME Legendary Edition.
I am so ready!
Gonna be a day one buy.
I wish they did DS2 as well. The second game is so much better IMO.
One of my absolute all time favorite games and game series!!! TAKE MY MONEY NOW!!!
@truerbluer Iโve had The Callisto Protocol on my radar since it was announced. Like you, Iโm super curious to see how it turns out. Likely a day one buy for me based on the pedigree.
Great game Dead space 1,2 and 3 still hold up today so I would rather they spent the time making a new dead space game
however as we all know with EA play it will be on there with in a year
@playstation1995 Personally I'm even more excited to see what one of the founders of Dead space (Glen Schofield) can create in the new game "Callisto Protocol" by his new studio Striking Distance. Fingers crossed it'll be good.
Played the original at release whilst pooping my pants, and can't wait to play the remake when it releases whilst pooping my pants.
Jokes aside, I have actually replayed Dead Space around 2 years ago and it unfortunately is not that scary after you've played it a few times. But still looking forward to this remake, as it certainly should refresh things up with current gen tech.
@gamer_since_83. Yes it looks like a cool game.if it plays like dead space that will amazing.word up son
I DARE you all to play with a Pulse3D headset (or whatever you have that can do surround sound, preferably on yo ears). I never got over playing the original FEAR on a 5.1 sound system and I am sad I never experienced Dead Space that way.
this was one of my favorite games back then i really cant' wait to play this again with improved graphics , controls and content.
Incredible game, have the trilogy on my ps3, definitely can't wait to experience the remaster on PS5. The original is terrifying enough lol ๐
HYPED! So happy we have a proper release date, I remember enjoying the original trilogy ALOT (still need to play the spinoffs and DLC).
Here's hoping the remake performs well enough for them to also work on remakes of DS2 and DS3.
I feel like this would've been amazing in Unreal engine 5. Still, really hoping it turns out great
