Granblue Fantasy: Relink was first revealed for PS4 all the way back in 2017 (we first covered it in 2018). And now, here we are five years later, and we're writing about another delay. The action RPG, now targeting both PS5 and PS4, has been moved into 2023. Previously, it was meant to launch this year, and before that, the project actually changed developers. You may remember that Relink was originally a Platinum Games gig, but property owner Cygames took the title in-house in 2019.
It's safe to say that the development cycle has not been smooth, and so this latest delay does prompt potential worry. That said, we at least have word from the people involved β specifically producer Yuito Kimura, who's written up a message addressed to eager fans.
It reads:
The development team has been hard at work getting Granblue Fantasy: Relink ready for its target release date in 2022. We understand the excitement players have for this game, so it is with utmost regret that we announce that the release date will be pushed back a second time to 2023.
Although internal and external circumstances pertaining to the novel coronavirus have been the primary hindrance to the development process, the entire staff has spared no effort in pushing to make up for lost time. However, considering the large-scale scope of this title, we believe more time is needed to further polish and optimize details and gameplay as we approach the final stretch.
All graphical resources, scenario pieces, voices, music, and other assets are in a completed state. At this stage, we are focused on refining gameplay balance, debugging, improving audio and graphical fidelity, and making general improvements to the overall experience.
We would like to ask for a little more of your patience.Further information was slated to be revealed in June 2022, but at the moment, our plan is to share more details in December 2022. We canβt wait to show you what we have!
Thankfully, it sounds as though the project is mostly complete, and that the promised 2023 release window will stick this time. We're also getting more information on Relink later this year, in December, which is nice to hear.
Again, we've been following Granblue Fantasy: Relink for what feels like an age, but we're still looking forward to seeing more. Yet another title to look out for in 2023.

Funny how next gen this game looked when gameplay was first shown several years ago, how time changes... Still looking forward to it if it actually launches!
I was just wondering about this the other day. I think we knew it would happen.
To be fair to them this sounds like a massive project and that setting is fantastic. The gameplay we've seen so far doesn't disappoint either.
I'm happy to wait for them to get it right.
Worried about this one. Looked really promissing but all these delays....it went from a must buy to I'll wait a couple of weeks until other people have tested it
Well as I predicted, the other two games I predicted will get delayed are valkyrie elysium and the new star ocean so expect those next π
No problem waiting if the game is good. I almost always add 6 months to a year onto any date at this point anyway. (and another 6 months for what should have been delivered day 1)
I mean that is unfortunate in terms of the game's development cycle and seemingly the stop/start process of reveal, then trailers, info dump and the continued anticipation of the game releasing and then delay upon delay.
-However, on a personal level, I have alot of games to play that have release dates or at least coming in 2022 that I'm fine just continuing to wait for this game to finally come out at some point in 2023. AND it'll give me more time to get back into the anime.
I got to many games to play .my backlog of games is huge.i can wait for this game.word up son
A shame but really as long as it turns out great and actually comes out this time in 2023 its fine take your time. Bayo 3 is taking almost as long as this to come out too
But honestly I just hope this doesn't affect Project Awakening. If this is struggling to come out I can't imagine what's going on with that game and that game looks so much more interesting
This game has looked like it could be something special since it was announced. Been waiting a while for it, what's a few months more to wait if the game is better at the end of it
Gotta be honest,I totally forgot about this game despite being excited at reveal.
Fantasy Verse actually looks better than this game imo.
Hard to believe it's been 6 years since the game announced, and it's still not even released yet!
Here's hoping 2023 is the final delay.
As much as I want to play it right this instant... I also hope they take all the time they need because if they get this right it will be MASSIVE!
