The release schedule is relatively sparse at the moment, but even so, Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series has still merged into the background somewhat. Bandai Namco's cult-hit platformers are getting the remake treatment, with the new collection updating both main entries with modern visuals. So, how do they stack up against the older versions? The publisher itself has put out a comparison video, embedded above.
Immediately obvious is an increase in sharpness, but also, colours are much more saturated in the remake, giving the games a super vibrant style. The remake's footage in the video is taken from the Switch version, so we can expect the PS5 and PS4 versions to be that little bit tidier still.
It's not going to be a technical marvel either way, but Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is of course a big leap ahead of the originals. The collection is coming on 8th July for PS5 and PS4. Are you excited to play the remakes? Hop into the comments section below.

The original game has more character and looks better.
The bright ones looks nice, though they lose details in some areas.
Oh yikes, I wasn't expecting this. A lack of detail and a colour palette that burns my retinas. Looks like.... I dunno like a mobile port?
I don’t mean to be one of those guys who say this every single remake/remaster comparison, but the original unironically looks more appealing to me
@JB_Whiting @Deoxyr1bose
Sad to say, I agree...
Last time I played this was on PS1 back in the day. It's nostalgic as hell, so this looks disappointing
Can't wait for this. Still one of the best and fun platformers. Hope this leads to a new Klonoa 3.
I think it looks great to be honest!Really excited to play these games again!
Is the in-game music like in this trailer?
Looks like they're using footage of the Wii remake of the first game as the "original" reference footage. Look up what the PS1 game looks like, and you'll notice a much bigger visual upgrade.
@Voltan No. At least not the first game, Door to Phantomile, which I played a few years back. It has a normal OST, not whatever that ear-splitting vocal track in the trailer is.
@Wazeddie22 @Martijn87 @Mauzuri Yeah the remakes looks great, honestly don't see what everyone else is talking about.
@Hundred_Hand_Slap genuinely does. Almost looks cel shaded, whereas the newer version looks flat, albeit brighter
