Hot Wheels Unleashed is a title that regularly collaborates with other franchises, and for its next trick, is going back to the Jurrasic period. The Jurassic World Racing Season will feature new challenges, vehicles and customizations inspired by the Jurassic World film franchise.
More content for a title like Hot Wheels Unleased (which we really enjoyed) is always a welcome thing, and this collaboration provides the perfect excuse to dive back in.

I might get this for the kiddo. He loves his JW cars.
I bought the ultimate edition of Hot Wheels Unleashed on sale about a month ago and I discovered they had seasons of content. The last season, DC Comics, was halfway over and the season pass was just $6, so I bought that. The game is fun, but a bit too complex for my young daughter to play with me. She can play games like Sonic Team Racing and Mario Kart just fine.
The only big criticism I have of the game is the level progression within the season pass. You get 10XP per race and a little more than that if you play online and make the podium, which wasn't worth it to me as I kept getting stuck in ridiculously long custom tracks. It's 200XP to level up the first levels and then I made it up to level 36 and that required 400XP to level up from that point. That's ridiculously low. It would be 40 races to level up once and that number may go up higher. I didn't make it past level 36 to find out. The last car to unlock was at level 50.
There are daily challenges you can do to get boat loads of XP, like 700XP if you do them all. The problem is, you can only do that once per day. For me, I only had 12 days left on the season pass when I bought it, so I did the challenges each day and completed all the races in the campaign and DLC. I must have done over a hundred races in those 12 days. I unlocked all the cars but one, so I feel I still got my money's worth, but I'm not doing a season pass again. It's just too much effort. They could improve the grind by offering repeatable challenges, raising the base XP from each race, or perhaps implementing a streak modifier, so you get more XP if you do consecutive races. Anything would be an improvement. Milestone, if you're listening, do something to make it easier to extract value from the season passes and more people would buy them.
...continued.
For what it's worth, I play a lot of Destiny 2 and I get the season passes there. There's just so many ways to earn XP in Destiny 2, you're never left powerless to level up. 40+ races per level in Hot Wheels Unleashed means you can't maximize value from the season pass without playing over a thousand races in the timeframe of the season pass or you have to do the daily challenges and hope you are able to do enough of them before the pass runs out.
@TheCollector316 didn't think I'd go into the comments and find a 2 post review....
@TheCollector316 @TheCollector316 Timed DLC which you have to grind so its almost a full time job. Its even going so far now I see that even DLC is timed its so depraved using fomo on kids..... âšī¸
All battlepasses work like this as much as i loved the COD 2019 i always where happy i got to the end and could go do something else the same with Overwatch.
I always was happy to get everything in the end i traded it in because i noticed i was not playing for fun but to get all the stuff it was like a job. And thats not why i play games its to relax.
@TheCollector316 yeah the grind on Hot Wheels is real. Tbf it's a manageable amount if you begin when the season starts but with only a few weeks left it'd be a ridiculous amount of repetitious single player racing to get the last car.
And I say single player because, as you mentioned, trying to get points from online racing is incredibly inefficient because everyone picks the stupid long custom tracks and it takes forever to load into so even if you get first place every race, which isn't going to happen, you're still better off picking a short single player track and busting 5 of those out in the time it takes to finally finish just one online race.
And honestly, if not for the daily challenges I'd never get anywhere on the season pass because I don't really love sitting there and grinding out the same track for hours.
Also really unhappy that one can buy the Ultimate Stunt Edition but that still somehow doesn't give access to all post-launch content. Like I'm okay paying for season passes but the expansion packs? Like they should all really come with the Ultimate Edition.
@zupertramp
Exactly, my friend. You nailed why the online races are pointless.
I was similarly surprised the ultimate edition wasn't so ultimate.
@TheCollector316 hearth to the review đ
They should do a Forza expansion lol
@TheCollector316
Yeah what a crappy way of trying to get players addicted to their crappy season passes for their casual game. Who even wants to grind this game that much? I'm fine with just finishing the story to this game and never touching it again.
I've gotten way more free content from free games than this paid pass provides for this paid game. Who the hell do they think they are lol. They need get back down to earth
