Time flies when you’re having fun, and we certainly had fun with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The Insomniac Games developed action platformer turns the ripe old age of one this weekend, and we figured it was a milestone worth highlighting. We awarded the PS5 exclusive an 8/10 in our review, after all – and it actually finished third in our Game of the Year countdown.
“While the rambunctious action feels largely familiar, the DualSense adds texture to each of the release’s larger-than-life armaments, meaning the game hits different to its predecessors,” we wrote. “And that’s all without speaking of Rivet, the newcomer Lombax who’s fast established herself as a star.”
We’d argue that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart remains one of the best-looking games on any console, and it was recently updated to support VRR technology with compatible televisions. Of course, if you’re yet to dig into the intergalactic adventure, you can find our Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart guide through the link – we wonder if this will become one of All PS Plus Games at some point.
But for those of you who already played, what did you think of Ratchet’s latest? Is it one of the Best PS5 Games, or a forgettable romp with ridiculous visuals? Would you like to see more from Insomniac Games’ loveable duo, or should this series be put on ice now? Reload your Buzzsaw and be sure to reflect on this outing’s anniversary in the comments section below.

2021 GOTY right here, I loved this game so much
i’m still waiting to get it when the price drops way more . i don’t think it’ll top the first 3 games or future to me
I love Rift Apart. It was such a fun game and I absolutely loved the addition of Rivet and Kit.
Pretty fun game, imo one of the best first party games when it comes to gameplay
Surprised at the vote breakdown.
I felt this was worse than the 2016 remake by a fair distance, but still a decent game that I played through to the platinum.
7/10 in my view.
Still the prettiest game on PS5 IMO (with Horizon being a close second)
Happy birthday Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart. 😃
Can't believe this hasn't been remastered yet lol
Solid little game, no doubt. In the 8 range, but I could see people going up as high as 9 and as low as 7. Thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. It’s a pretty similar feeling I’m having right now with Kena Bridge of Spirits.
It was a decent game but for whatever reason it didnt seem to click with me in the same way that past ratchet and clank games have.
Loved the game. Only negative for me was that it wasn’t longer.
Left a little shorter than the last one from 2016. Just got platinum a few weeks back loved the game. Looks amazing and just loads in an instant
I thought it was brilliant. Easy 9/10.
I loved it, great game, would have maybe liked a little longer but in reality it was probably a good length.
Might give it another play through sometime over the summer.
Careful with the "PS5 exclusive". It might come to pc sooner than you think 😂
Def needs a remaster by now surely 😂
@munstre EEEEEASILY
Last year, it really was the year of the Rs. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Resident Evil Village and, of course, Returnal
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart was a great game.
R&C 2 is the pinnacle of the series, but this is a close second 9/10
Fantastic game. A lot of fun.
Gameplay wise nothing groundbreaking new but what would you expect from a jump and run?
The game is an absolute showcase for the ps5 and for insomniac itself as a studio.
I gave it a 9 because it was short I enjoyed it though didn't pay full price I waited until it went on sale.
Absolutely fantastic game. Stunning graphics, insane sound design, great writing and the best use of the PS5's SSD I've seen. Insomniac did a masterful job optimising it too, with the brilliant 40 fps mode a true standout. The game almost justified my entire recent PS5 purchase by itself and made me a big fan of the series ...something the PS4 game did not. I just felt the love and passion in this game, and it didn't feel rushed, had actual depth and amazing polish. The PS4 entry, meanwhile, felt tragically rushed, devoid of charm, forced and sloppy.
Wonderful game and a fantastic tech showcase. But definitely was, and still is, too expensive for what you get. Really hope the next game is more meaty but this one is for sure worth it on sale!
I've yet to play this.
Great game. I believe it also was the last true PS5 game that didn’t offer cross gen.
Ratchet and Clank is one my favourite games since PS2. Loved every moment of this one. Just sad that it felt so short.
A 9 out of 10. Amazing game.story.graphics.gameplay is top notch.word up son
@Kooky_Daisuke I'll get it on sale on PS5 at some point. Enjoyed the first one but it hasn't aged well.
Why is this game still selling for $70?
I really love having all my games digital since no discs need to be swapped to play (technically I was forced to since the digital PS5 was the only one I could get my hands on) but I do miss the sales from third parties that only apply to the disc versions.
@GreatAuk just last week it was on sale for $40.
'Great' wee game, emphasis on the 'wee' considering its price point on release
@Kooky_Daisuke
I paid £38 which I thought was a fair price under the circumstances, just wish it had a physical release.
@Milktastrophe I had no idea, if I did I would have pulled the trigger on the purchase!
I just happened to look up the price right now because I was reading the article. Oh well.
@GreatAuk it seems to be going on sale now roughly every 1-2 months these days. So hopefully you don't have much longer to wait!
One of my absolute favorite games on PS5. I spent a long time doing everything in that game and getting the platinum. Just a joy to play.
One of the rare games I've platinumed. Definitely one of my favorites, might even be my favorite, in the entire series and certainly one of Insomniac's best overall efforts which is saying a lot.
I'd give it a 7
Amazing visuals, okay gameplay, okay story
Disappointed with the platinum, too easy, no need to collect everything and upgrade everything, no need for a new game plus
I loved it. Not the hardest game but no less satisfying as a result. Storyline and characters were great, plenty of awesome action. Easily the best Ratchet & Clank game to date and I'd love to see a follow up.
It was the last game I platted after picking it up recently. Absolutely stunning game, with great gameplay. I loved some of the later movement abilities in particular - without wishing to spoil anything those of you who know will know what I mean. Some of the later levels were full of glitches like the floor or boss not loading at all and requiring a full game-app close and re-boot, which is weird to see in a title that has been out for a year. Overall, a fantastic game.
It's extrinsic to the game, but I felt the platinum was too easy. I'd have spent more time on it if I had to max out every weapon in Challenge Mode, and I'm kinda disappointed that that wasn't required if I'm honest.
It was a great game. The visuals are still jaw droppers.
GOTY 2021 without a doubt, looking forward to the next game!
I do wish they would give us some DLC in the meantime, but I know they're hard at work on Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, and a 3rd project I can't remember.
Never got to play it, as I've still failed to acquire a PS5. I fear this may be one of the games that slips through the cracks for me. By the time I get a PS5 and start catching up on games, too many new ones will come out and I'll never end up playing it.
Not played it yet. It will be coming to PS++ soon right? Probably after Sackboy!
