Sonic Origins is spin-dashing towards its launch next week on 23rd June, so SEGA has released a new video about the game to get everyone up to speed. It seems to be the first in a series of videos dubbed Speed Strats, and it gives a general overview of what to expect from this retro collection.
So, one final recap ahead of launch. This PS5 and PS4 title compiles Sonic 1, CD, 2, and 3 & Knuckles into one package. All the games are playable in Anniversary Mode or Classic Mode. The former presents the games in full widescreen, with unlimited lives and Sonic Mania's drop dash technique. The latter lets you play the games in their original 4:3 display, has limited lives, and excludes the drop dash — basically presenting them as they were in the 90s.
There's also a Mission Mode, which gives you short challenges to complete. Beating these missions, and playing the games in Anniversary Mode, rewards you with Coins, which can be spent at the Museum on certain items. There's more detail in the video, but this is the gist. It all seems like a solid collection from where we're sitting, especially as it gives us easy access to Sonic 3 & Knuckles on modern systems — even if some of the original music won't feature.

I absolutely love the way the menu looks with the islands representing each game and how they animated them to make them feel so alive.
I’m up for this collection, I can never get enough of the original sonic games. The price of this might be a bit steep but what isn’t expensive these days?
Honestly I’ve been tired of counting how many there were Sonic’s remasters through the years on different platforms. I guess SEGA ought to concentrate its powers on making some new perfect games rather than trying to reopen the big old dust game box again.
Yes, Yes, I know about the existence of Sonic Frontier, but I doubt the game might be perfect.
wish sonic frontiers was coming out first
Looks good but it's a bit expensive since I want all the feature in the game premium collection, maybe I'll wait for the first sale.
Looks good, but I feel they should have included Sonic 1 and 2 on the Master System as extras. I'm sure will pick them up, but might get the Switch version initially for the portability.
@Ristar24 brilliant comments and Master System and GameGear versions would have made it even more perfect
Would be nicer if they retro fitted Mighty and Ray as well.
I just dont understand the coin system why not let people replay the mission without the nonsense its a waste. You see how much love went into the game its a pity they had such a ridiculous spreadsheet to to preorder is this digital only BTW.
