Free-to-play dragon combat game Century: Age of Ashes was set to release tomorrow on the PS5 and PS4 – but has now been delayed. In an eyebrow raising statement, Bordeaux-based developer Playwing admitted that it simply needs more time, and assured that bringing the game to PlayStation is its top priority. It didn’t, however, issue an alternative date.
“First, please accept our humble apologies,” a statement said. “Pushing back a release is never pleasant, even more so when we know there is a huge number of players who are wanting to play on PlayStation platforms, and this will most likely be a turning point in the life of Century: Age of Ashes. Passing certification on PlayStation – what we call 'going gold' – right off the back of the Xbox One release and the launch of the debut season, A Shadow Over Skeld, is a tough challenge. Therefore, we are going to need a little more time to ensure we meet the quality standards to ship on these two platforms.”
Fair enough, so when can we expect to mount our dragons? “Our team are currently hard at work debugging the PS5 and PS4 versions, while also polishing up the recently released Xbox One version. Season 1 is also being worked on for its balancing issues and prepping for future content. This is now the last stretch before Century takes flight on PlayStation, which means it's just a matter of days before we share a release date with you all.”

This is a "get gud dev" moment if I've ever seen one. 😂
Is this a sequel to PS3's Lair? I've honest never heard of this one.
I was laughing at a studio that did this on XBox last week - released the PS5 version on time, but indefinitely delayed the XBox Series version the day before release. And here we are on the other side.
I have mixed feelings about these. A delay is better than releasing something that's not ready, but surely they didn't just figure out today that they were really pushing the deadline for their bug fixes. I don't know how they're making these sorts of decisions and what other factors are in play - does a F2P lose money if it's delayed??? - but I'm not sure if this trend is good for gamers (and game-makers). Why not postpone it a week ago?
I guess I still come down on the side of believing bad news of a last-minute postponement is better than bad news of an awful, buggy experience that chases away interest and gives you a bad reputation.
@RobN keeping secret release date until game is ready, is always better than constant delaying (even one delay is enough)
I don't care this game, but I just wonder... 😀
A little disappointing to hear that I’ll be waiting longer for the PS5 version, but at the same time, I think it’s important for them to take their time making sure the PS5 and PS4 ports are well polished and optimized. I’ll definitely be downloading and playing this game whenever it does release on PS5, but for now, luckily I can still play it on PC in the meantime.
@Kingdom_Hearts95 This is def the right attitude to have with delays, just means the game will be less buggy and more polished at launch.
Remember that ps3 release game that was flying dragons? This will probably sell about as well.
