You can expect the PC version of The Last of Us: Part I to release "very soon" after the oft-discussed remake launches on PS5, according to Johnathon Benainous, the senior environment texture artist at Naughty Dog.
This follows from Benainous' comment that there is "no comparison" between the PS3 & PS5 versions of the game, made on Twitter in response to a fan's question regarding the title's gameplay.
While this is hardly a firm timeline, considering that The Last of Us: Part I releases on PS5 on 2nd September, it's not inconceivable that we could see the PC port sometime before the end of the year.
In other TLoU news, we finally got an extended look at gameplay for the remake and the expansive suite of accessibility options that are included.
When it launches, will you pick up the PC iteration of the Last of Us: Part I? Make sure your drivers are up to date in the comments section below.

For the same steep price as the PS5 version? Probably not
Good luck with selling a Game on Steam for 80€ lol, this is gonna get cracked so fast
It’ll be a shame if PC ends up getting a version with enhanced features (like unlockable frame rates and such) but it’s a smart decision on the developers behalf, it’ll sell like hot cakes! More money for Naughty Dog means more can be put into future projects (anything from them is a blockbuster).
@Max_the_German Didn’t even think of that.. they should at least give existing owners on PS an upgrade discount. I buy it either way who am I kidding.
Hoho. Interesting. Not gonna bitch about it being a cash grab as I was not planning to get it regardless but I’m curious what price tag they will put on the PC port.
@Max_the_German God of War and Horizon were both £39.99 I believe. Frankly it's scandalous to me that that it would be cheaper on PC the first time round than third time on PlayStation. Plus it's not even on their own store they have to give Steam/Epic a sizeable cut.
Why remake it ugly...
The RRP for FFVII Remake is £70 on Epic Games and Steam so it could well be the same (although Spider-Man is £55).
@IonMagi FF7 Remake is 80€ in Steam. Seriously though I don't why a console manufacturer would release games in a competing platform... Makes buying PS5 less appealing, especially since PC games are more easily preserved. On the other hand my PC can't handle triple a games but the Steam Deck will probably will which makes the decision of not having a PS4 version of some games strange.
If we get some more PC exclusive ports then I think it’s a fair trade. Give us Half Life Alyx! 😄
@Breekhead Not to be pedantic, that's Steam exclusive. The PS ports are available for other launchers like Epic Games Store.
@belmont Well this is getting pirated too lol. God of War had 2-3 Million Downloads on only one of "those" sites while selling less than 900k on PC 🙃
@Worlock_ed That’s true, I’m still hoping for it to come to PSVR2 though 🤞
@Breekhead I actually finished it the other week. Great game for VR but if you took that novelty away, it would be a boring walking simulator. You never shoot more than 4 enemies at once. The appeal is the interactivity and the physical act of actually aiming yourself and reloading.
I can definitely see why PC only players would be excited for this release. I wonder when Part 2 would make the jump. Dear lord the mods for Part 2 are going to be hilarious!🤣
@Worlock_ed That’s awesome! Yeah I love the franchise and VR is just so damn immersive! I watched some gameplay a while back and even being able to draw on a whiteboard early on gets me excited lol
@Korgon I actually hope it's not released so we can carry on thinking it ended with the first :') although actually including Part 1 in the title now pretty much guarantees that won't be the case.
Maybe we got PC ports every month from August then? We already know for the rest of the year we've got:
So fitting TLoU Part 1 in could give a monthly PC port streak of 4 months and that's not even considering rumours.
@IonMagi
Pc players claims to be best but cant afford games somehow.
I mean this is the real reason the remake exists in the first place. To sell it to PC players.
@Breekhead PS5 version has a toggle to unlock framerates
I thought this was obvious that this remake was also releasing on PC. Releasing on console first to go after the whales, then to release cheaper on PC. Console players have always been abused when it comes to charging more compared to PC, also you think PC are being charged for remasters?
& then they can do a video where druckman says for me the pc version is the definitive way to play tlou part 1 lol
Oh my poor storage on Steamdeck!
@IonMagi yeah all the ps games that have released on pc have been cracked pretty much straight away I guess they don't use denuvo
@Would_you_kindly Maybe things have changed but I remember when I was a poor chap like 15 years ago the Scene-groups cracked pretty much every single game within days.
@Relygon most games do get cracked almost instantly Forza horizon 5 for example was actually playable through piracy before people that didn't buy the premium add ons bundle could play it
Most likely the "very soon" will translate to end of November / first half of December 2022, after Dad of War Ragnarok launches.
@Neverwild To be fair, every single PC gamer can download the game for free with about the same amount of clicks it takes to pay for the game. PC pricing has to reflect that. Gabe Newell even acknowledged that years ago, in the earlier days of Steam.
@IonMagi Whats your source? Those numbers seem insane to me and I'd love to learn more.
@claytortot213 I don't have any sources to back that up but honestly I wouldn't be surprised. Piracy on PC is as rampant as usual, I guess.
@themightyant
Console players are for gouging. PC is just a bonus so the prices are never as high.
Yeah not for that price, I'll get it in a sale as its on a different platform but when full on remakes like RE4 are launching at £60 it puts things like this in a bad light. Still I'll likely buy it on PC in a sale but more interested in Spider-Man and seeing how it'll look with some good RT hardware and ultrawide when I upgrade my monitor
Sony seems to care about PC more these days than they do their console owners.
Not interested in a triple dip on PS but will pick up the PC version just down to seeing what the modding community can do with it.
@IonMagi That link suggests 20,000+ people were pirating it.
Don't make the mistake that those 20,000+ would have been sales. They won't have been.
Meanwhile it sold 971,000 units on PC in just two and a half months. It will be well over a million now. The stats do not back up that "most PC Players will just pirate it". That's just not true. Do a smaller proportion of people pirate it? Sure.
Plus DRM doesn't stop people pirating it, It always gets cracked. DRM doesn't stop piracy. In fact there's some evidence it only increases it as people want clean versions of their games without system and privacy hogs like Denuvo etc.
@themightyant games are often cracked on the day of launch or shortly afterwards anyway, Elden Ring sold huge on PC despite being immediately cracked so DRM does little but harm the consumer in the long run. People often try to equate pirated copies to lost sales despite being little truth in that and God of War was successful despite being a few years old and probably even played by many who have a PC. Even on Playstation most of GoW sales were when it became £15.99 for the hits version, so trying to sell it again at £40 was going to be tricky
Of course it is, that's the platform this thing exists because of! That's like advertising that a new Mario is going to be on a Nintendo console.
The whole thing is such a mess. If they try to sell it at $70 on PC it's going to make the controversy on PS5 look mild. If they try to sell it cheaper they're going to stir more controversy from PS5 owners for being treated worse than PC players. If they just never released it on PS5 and released only on PC they'd have stirred controversy from PS5 owners that now get the worst version of PS games. And somehow just selling it at a reasonable price on PS5 instead of gouging whales and seeing how much they can get away with never occurred to them.
@carlos82 Agreed on all points except "most of GoW sales were when it became £15.99 for the hits version".
It had sold OVER 10 million copies in it's first 13 months on sale (till May 2019) and it didn't join PS Hits until Sept 2019 almost 18 months after launch. Sales shortly before PC launch were 19.5 million. Not clear if that total also includes PS Collection 'sales' (and since then we've had PS+)
In short while there's no doubt a large proportion of sales were hits version, most sales were before this heavy discount.
@themightyant You read it wrong. 20k were downloading it at the time the Screenshot was taken. Below are the Numbers of total Downloads (2.2 Million)
Almost feels like this just should’ve been made for PC to begin with. Who needs a PS5?
@IonMagi Neither the article nor the screenshot says 2.2 Million. Where are you finding that?
Other articles also reference at 20,000+ but can't find 2+ million anywhere.
day one buy on ps5 and steam , cant wait to see the mods that will be developed. all exclusive ps3 to ps5 games should go to pc theres a big community that can make them run better and not to mention mods.
@themightyant nearly half then, I wasn't trying to discredit its sales, just point out that its been available cheaply for a long time which has helped hugely towards those numbers
This generation feels more and more like an end of an era.
Oh! So this is the real reason for the remake.
I'm going to be paying close attention to the pricing, It shouldn't be even slightly cheaper then the ridiculous amount were being ask to pay (for a third time too!)
@F2P-F2P broken record mate
@Neverwild PC gamers can't afford games cause they spent all their money buying a GPU.
I forsee a lot of piracy regarding the PC Launch especially if the price is high like the PS5 version.
The steam deck is looking more amazing by the day
@IonMagi So you like pirating..............you deserve ehat you get
@belmont Nonsense
Should be day one imo.
Just like the internet outrage over the leaks before they were debunked by Naughty Dog I feel like this was always going to be the end game for this but most people didn’t realise.
I’m not going to buy the remake. I already bought it on PS3 and PS4, but I do feel more people should get to experience what I believe is one of the best games ever made (in terms of story, narrative, setting, character performances etc) and so I’m happy for PC players and I think it actually makes sense to have a remake and then release it on PC instead of just releasing one of the older versions.
Not surprising if true, but will probably be a year wait.
Bought it on PS3, then upgraded to the PS4 version, pre-ordered the PS5 remake and will, because I've a super wide monitor and a 3090 (which is going get trounced by the 4090 ftr) and just want to see the definitive, definitive final, super enhanced PC edition will look like. Plus, there is no way in hell they will sell it at £70 on steam. CDKeys will make bank on this one!
