The UK is going through a heatwave right now, so we imagine that sales of physical games have generally been down as people stay out of the sun. Still, those that did buy some new titles to play have successfully dethroned F1 22, down a place after spending a couple of weeks on top. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, previously seventh, has force jumped back into first place.
However, it's not the biggest leap in the charts this week. Far Cry 6 has moved from 32nd all the way back up to sixth, presumably thanks to Amazon's Prime Day sale. While FIFA 22 is also up, now in fifth, Horizon Forbidden West moves down a few spots into seventh after several weeks at number two.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 16th July 2022
- LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
- F1 22
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Nintendo Switch Sports
- FIFA 22
- Far Cry 6
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus
- Minecraft (Switch)

You know there’s a drought of overmarketed AAA games when the 2 newest games in the UK top 10 chart are 2 months old each (F1 22 and switch sports).
Far cry 6 in the top 10?
Must be this hot weather frying everyone's brain cells.
Far Cry 6 was £10 last week. Context is important.
@Texan_Survivor Yes I think it must have done OK by now. Completely swamped by Elden Ring but what wasn't! I expect it to have quite a long tail too.
@darkswabber F1 22 released on 1st July
That's pretty cool to see Far Cry 6 doing well again even if it's on the back of a sale. Probably my 3rd favorite only behind 4 and 3.
@Quintumply oh wow I was convinced it released in may.
Yeah, the trend suggests that HFW has a little more staying power than the oft compared Elden Ring. I’m seeing Elden Ring preowned copies pop up in stores, but can’t find any for HFW.
@Th3solution Honestly there are hundreds of copies of both HFW and ER on Ebay both in the UK and USA right now. In the UK there's plenty of copies of both in stores.
In the case of Elden Ring it has led software sales in 4 of the 5 months since release. It's sold over 13.4 million copies in less than 5 months since release.
@Texan_Survivor I don't think you were wrong. I think Elden Ring DID affect Day 1 sales of HFW and other games, but thankfully HFWs quality is shining through and it's picking up sales later. Helps that there hasn't been much AAA released since.
FWIW I bought HFW day 1, but still to pick up ER despite loving FromSoft games. Need to play Sekiro first.
good ole far cry .. 3 is so nostalgic for me
You can tell when there hasn't been much PS5 stock because HFW isn't extremely high in the charts.
@themightyant I haven’t been watching the charts too closely, but I didn’t notice Elden Ring’s presence recently. No doubt it’s exceeding expectations sales-wise. The recent HFW boom is also partly from the increased PS5 availability and especially from the bundling of the game with new consoles.
In my neck of the woods I’ve not seen a single pre-owned copy of a HFW out in the wild, but I have seen a couple here and there of ER (I’ve been keeping an eye out for both). So it’s just observational on my part, not an empiric study. As you say, there is surely plenty of both online.
The retail physical price for a new copy of ER is also already discounted to $50 at GameStop. HFW is still at $70/$60 (PS5/PS4). Not sure what that means, but it’s the opposite of what we were seeing last gen from Sony first party. Sony studios games would drop in value pretty quickly before.
Nice to see HFW still holding strong. Great game but I honestly think it’s mostly thanks to all the bundling. Literally every PS5 drop here is a HFW bundle, and has been for some time now.
@Texan_Survivor Massively looking forward to it, but it's another one on the long backlog. Just played, and platinumed, the Demon's Souls remaster so Sekiro can't be too far away, I'll need another Souls Fix (though Dark Souls remastered is tempting). With luck I'll get to it before Xmas.
I had a demo of Tenchu (I think from Official PlayStation Magazine) that was basically the entire first level. I don't think I ever played a demo more, I was a master of those rooftops, knew all the shortcuts and guards routes. I loved it and felt like a proper ninja on that level. Several years later I finally bought the game and was always slightly disappointed by the rest, felt it peaked on that first level. lol.
But yes first time I saw Sekiro, it gave me huge Tenchu vibes too. Looking forward to it. Hope you get round to it soon too.
@Th3solution That's interesting, it's the opposite here in the UK.
Here Elden Ring launched at the lower/PS4 price of £49.99 (even on PS5) and it's currently still £45-£50 at most larger retailers. Though there have been a few smaller discounts here and there.
Meanwhile HFW launched at £69.99 and has steadily dropped in price until it's now £45-£50 at most larger retailers. I've thought that the discount was one of the reason for the additional sales. While I did buy HFW at full price frankly I know i'm far less likely to buy as many games Day 1 for £70, I'm sure it's the same for many other gamers.
Regardless good to see it consistently in the charts after what looked like a slightly rocky beginning. It's a really good game.
Glad to see people still enjoying Far Cry 6.
People need to broaden there gaming horizons methinks… same old games week in week out… dull
@Th3solution that’s cus everytime a souls game comes out people flock to buy it and then realise it’s too hard for them 😂😂😂
@themightyant I was hoping for price drops before Black Friday, but that might be when things really get marked down consistently. A new copy of Ghostwire Tokyo is already $30 at retail and it came out over a month after HFW. 😄
