Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been a long time coming and is apparently still a long way off. At this point, it's kind of hard to believe this thing is ever coming out. We did get some movement today, though, with the reveal that the project has found a new lead writer.
Sarah Arellano announced yesterday in a Tweet that she will be joining the project as its lead writer. Arellano has worked previously as Narrative Designer for Blizzard on World of Warcraft, and at Volition on Saints Row.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was teased all the way back in 2008, before going radio silent for almost a full decade, before being re-revealed in 2017. The title will serve as a prequel to 2003's Beyond Good & Evil, which was eventually remastered for PS3 as Beyond Good & Evil HD in 2011.
Are you still excited for Beyond Good & Evil 2? When do you think (if ever) we will see this elusive title? Get ahead of yourself in the comments section below.

This will eventually release as painfully mediocre. They clearly don’t have a proper vision for this, so muddled mess is on the horizon.
this is still to be played in my steam collection. ive started and left it for another game dont think i got past the 1st 30 mins im thinking il try later lol
Sadly have little faith this will ever see the light of day, and if it does I have even less faith a modern Ubisoft will do the original justice. But there is a glimmer of hope, and i'd LOVE to be wrong.
I had no faith at all to start with. But will they make a story singleplayer or will this stay a always online, liveservice mess then i hope they put it out of their misery.
I don't believe anything can satisfy 15 years of anticipation.
sh*ts getting real!!
@Enigk spot on.
I wish her luck but it seems like a Fools errand at this point sadly. I don't ever see this actually coming out.
Well, that's a good thing. I think I'll play this game as soon as I finish Half Life 3...
Who cares anyway? There are hundreds of amazing games that are already out and coming out in the near future. You can just play any of those rather than some vapourware game that doesn’t seem to have progressed from the initial concept stage (hence the need for a lead writer?!) it’s been 15 years, you’d have thought they’d have at least nailed down the story by this point.
I heard number 1 pick was the director of Abandoned, but I guess this is the next best choice.
Genuinely surprised this game wasn’t silently cancelled by Ubisoft.
Considering they revealed this as some sort of MMO, the best thing Ubisoft could do is scrap it and start all over. Fans loved the original because it was a solid action-adventure game, not some totally different genre.
Glad it is not dead.
This whole thing has seemed from the start to have been something that would have made a gorgeous, insane animated feature film, but they don't get paid to make films they get paid to make games so they had to try and construct a game around their idea. So we end up with three very beautiful marketing videos that tell us absolutely nothing about the product they eventually want us to buy. Very confusing. I'm pretty sure it'll come out eventually to critical disregard and we'll all forget about it within three months.
This game has been coming out for so long, I'm pretty sure Pushsquare had it listed as a 2018 game until 2021, that I can't even remember the name of the guy I've been joking about it with. Didn't see him here though, most be off somewhere waiting on Knack 3 news.
Even the guys who made Duke Nukem Forever are shaking their heads at BG&E2.😂
I don't hold out much hope for this, take Halo Infinite as an example.
The game might as well be called Beyond Dead on Arrival.
I can’t express how disappointed I am about Beyond Good & Evil 2. Not the eternal delay, but by how the ruined it by making it super inappropriate. I loved the first one and was excited for my daughter to play the second one because the main character was so awesome, but the trailer revealed that it was written by a group of 13 year-old immature boys.
I’m VERY convinced that when they partnered with South Park their company’s decency went in the toilet. I can’t believe they went this direction with such a wholesome game and character. Just gross.
Did anyone else feel like this got cancelled and not feel any happiness at seeing it wasn’t?
At this point it needs to be called something completely different.
With such a huge delay it doesnt get anything by being 'no 2', better to be its own thing...
Good for her, but frankly any time spend on this game's development is a waste at this point.
I decided to give up on BG&E2 several years ago. I sometimes worried that I would have second thoughts about my decision and then that awful 2017 trailer came, and all my worries went straight out the window lol.
As far as I'm concerned Michel Ancel leaving the dev team and Ubisoft in order to go and be one with nature (or something, I don't remember the specific reasons) was the real nail in the coffin.
Man I miss the orignal BG&2 stuff.
Sounds like they're turning a Pey'j.
A WoW and Saint's Row writer. I'm feeling much better about BG&E2 now! I thought the creator/producer running off into the woods was the end of this, but no, clearly, this is still on track to be a masterpiece.
I guess the reports of a beta coming soon aren't true.
So looking forward to playing this on my Playstation in the year 2525.
I'm hipster enough to call the first "Beyond Good & Evil" one of my all-time favorites. But I lost most hope that the sequel will become anything special as soon as Michel Ancel left the project. Maybe he wasn't the best leader, but he was a great game designer and the one with the vision.
Hiring a new lead writer seems to indicate Ubi is still serious about releasing this. I think at best it will turn out a decent action-adventure in space with nice art, but not nearly as ambitious, open and immersive as the game they re-announced back in 2017.
Bring back beyond good and evil hd.that game waa good.as for this game.its taking too. Long.word up son
Give me this and an Enslaved HD remaster/remake please
@kyleforrester87 They make Square-Enix look like a company that has streamlined releases.
@JMills To be fair women and Ubisoft are not a great combination.
@Migoshuro I don't think any game as ambitious as what they announced in 2017 could ever really exist at least for a long, long time. They basically insinuated something with the scope of a 10 year old MMO and the polish of a Naughty Dog game (I hate ND, but I give them credit for polish) and the interactivity of Cyberpunk (that itself couldn't get its act together to match its ambition.) Anyone who expected the game they presented could ever be real was living in a dream world!
But that was Ubi's MO back then was promising ambitions they had no hope of delivering. Watch Dogs, BG&E2, Division, Wildlands. They had a ton of great ideas by no sense of what's actually achievable. That era really hurt them long-term.
@NEStalgia You're absolutely right. I'm usually not someone who falls for overly ambitious promises by developers/publishers. What I actually meant (but certainly didn't express) was, that I believe Michel Ancel probably would have been able to put at least a core of this very great vision into the final experience, to deliver a really special game, even without reaching all their initial goals. Does that make sense?
@Flaming_Kaiser I wasn’t the least bit shocked by those allegations 🙄
The fact i dont even know what genre this thing even is shows they have no idea what the hell they are doing.
It needed a new writer. The 2017 trailer was a horrid mess full of unnecessary swearing, clearly trying to appeal to the X-Box 360 generation from when it was first announced. They just needed to build and improve on the original template.
Here is hoping this game can materialise. Things do not seem good with Ubisoft at all at the moment.
@JMills Maybe its a french thing.
Just came here to say that thing people do when they record their screen changing their Twitter bio is ridiculously self indulgent and cringe.
I don't see this game releasing until 2026 at the earliest now, if they've only just hired their lead creative writer.
They’ve already spent a bunch of money and built the foundation for what looks like a potentially very ambitious game. May as well actually make something out of what they have than scrap it completely…
This game is an even bigger joke than Duke Nukem Forever ever was at this point.
