While it looks like Amazon will not be buying EA after all, Embracer Group has completed its acquisition of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and various other assets. According to a press release from the Swedish juggernaut, “all conditions for the transaction, including regulatory approvals, have now been fulfilled and the transaction may be completed”. It concludes: “Embracer has, therefore, today completed the acquisition.”
In addition to the aforementioned studios, Embracer Group will also gain access to a catalogue of intellectual properties, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain, and more. “Further information will be given by the companies and Embracer Group at a later date,” the press release concludes.
So, there you have it: one acquisition rumour may have already been dismissed today, but another has been completed. The industry’s march towards consolidation continues…

Should be hearing that Sony buys square enix before the end of the year.
Already? Seemed like that was way faster than when Sony or Microsoft buys a company.
Now the time for a mediocre game avalanche!
i hope embracer group has gamers in mind and not ripping off gamers. i have these games in my collection would love to see a remaster.
@Milktastrophe Much smaller purchase, so quicker to be approved I imagine.
Embracer group is sneakily winning with these smart purchases while building up its gaming resume. I’m looking forward to how the new Tomb Raider is.
Just don't f-up Tomb Raider. They need to keep it on Playstation.
Great news, good for the industry it won't be locked behind one console
Now hurry up and get a new tomb raider out, its been too long.
Wonder if Square-Sony is soon
Really hoping they remake all of the Legacy of Kain games. I’d kinda knocked gaming on the head for a few years around the time that they all came out, so I never got to play them but have only heard great things since.
I think that is possibly wishful thinking, @UltimateOtaku91. They could just as easily agree to put a game on a single console (in the vein of FF7) or do timed exclusives (just as with Deathloop etc.) It's all about money, and if enough is thrown at them, they won't hesitate to catch it...
I just hope the new Tomb Raider game doesn’t suck.
What a waste. This is.
@Americansamurai1 Agreed. Seems like there’s nothing preventing them from announcing it at this point. At first I was against the idea of Sony buying Square, but with the way these acquisition sprees have been going I really hope it does happen soon. SE is my favorite publisher outside of PlayStation Studios, so I’d much rather Sony scoop them up before Microsoft or Tencent. Seems like anything goes at this point.
Great! Just make Tombraider awesome and remake Soul Reaver:legacy of Kain👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
Please!!!
Ta very much.
@PlayStationGamer3919 I think you misunderstood me. I don't care if it's multiplat so long as it's also on Playstation.
@PlayStationGamer3919
I took that as keep the games on Playstation not ONLY on Playstation, didn't come off as a desire to see it exclusive
@PSme @colonelkilgore Hey there friends.
Having the Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver games remade for next gen, or current gen if it pleases you, would be a dream came true for me. You guys can tell I´m a huge Soul Reaver fan trough my nickname and maybe they could even finish the story, since Defiance was not suposed to be the final game of the series. They would have to hire Amy Henning to do it properly though. But it would be amazing if it was possible.
Cheers, stay safe and have a good one both of you
@RaZieLDaNtE we can but hope eh? Though Amy Henning does seem to have an awful lot on her plate atm. Has to be more of a chance now than when the IP was under Square though 🤔
@colonelkilgore LoC: Soul Reaver... the best character of all games in my life (second is Prince of Persia, third is Altair from AC1)
Would be nice if some of the legacy titles Embracer now own like Blood Omen Legacy of Kain would come to the PS Classics range to buy/PS Deluxe/Premium albeit Sony sadly seem to be silent on adding any additional titles beyond those in PS Now!😑
As for reboots etc.,yes the likes of Kingdom of Amalur etc.,have been pretty bare bones to date, but is it any worse than being thrown under the bus by Square Enix for mtx ridden live service grindfests or single player games "failing to meet sales expectations"?
That's great news...now the long wait for the next Tomb Raider game to be released.
@colonelkilgore Yeah, absolutely. We can only hope. And dream 😁 I wonder if anyone that worked on the games, besides the fans, are actualy thinking about doing something with the series.
It has potential to become popular again, gaining new fans and making old fans like us very happy.
If it ever happens, I´ll be a happy camper. Shame that we won´t have the late Tony Jay for the Elder God role anymore. R.I.P.
Him, plus Michael Bell and Simon Templeman did such an amazing job with their specific roles. Truly Iconic roles for sure.
Cheers, and all the best
Good for you EG, now release some actual games.
With the exception of Japanese and Chinese companies, there is a tendency to destroy games by making beautiful women ugly and by introducing blacks and homosexuals. Tomb Raider will be one of their victims.
Proceed to install the three Tomb Raider games on ssd or hdd before the update makes it ugly.
Just hire Warren Spector to make a proper Deus Ex.
