Sony's PSVR2 headset will be playable for the first time on the TGS 2022 show floor, it's been confirmed. Attendees can sample the next-gen device through a Resident Evil Village demo, with the Japanese showcase taking place from 15th to 18th September 2022. This will be the very first time PSVR2 has been playable publicly.
The demo will deliver "ultimate immersion" in a demo based around Castle Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village. For their troubles, players will be handed a clear file set based on the game and upcoming remake Resident Evil 4. "This will be the first opportunity for PlayStation users to experience PlayStation VR2," Sony adds in a tweet. "Please visit the Tokyo Game Show 2022 CAPCOM booth!"
It'll be interesting to see whether any other PSVR2 tiles are confirmed for the event — perhaps Sony will bring Horizon Call of the Mountain? — but Capcom has also shared more details on the Street Fighter 6 demo it's taking to the show floor. Single player and head-to-head matches will allow you to pick Ryu, Chun-Li, Jamie, Luke, Guile, Kimberly, or Juri as your fighter of choice.
Sony has confirmed PSVR2 will launch in early 2023, but going from what we know so far to the public being able to actually get some hands on time with the headset feels like a fairly big leap. Today's announcement could suggest Sony has a PlayStation Showcase up its sleeve containing more news, but that's purely speculation for now.
Regardless, who's joining us for a day trip to Japan to test this thing out? Let's arrange flights in the comments below.

So noone cares about positive news i guess..
Very nice.
Sammy! Get a ticket and tell us how awesome it is!
Still waiting for a price? 🤔
Look forward to buy the VR2 at 600€ next year
@zebric21 It is just a brand new article?
I'm glad that this shows progress towards launch, but currently it doesn't mean anything to me. I just need a price, release date doesn't mean much to me if it's the first half of next year, as I'm likely to wait until my birthday in July anyway.
@zebric21 that tells you a lot about the gaming community. To me they are like Qanon, but with nerds/ geeks
Awesome, can't wait to get my hands on this
@theheadofabroom So u don't want any news on the PSVR2 unless it's the price and release date. However, if the release is before July u don't care about the release date. I look forward to all the new articles on the PSVR2 that will drop in July even if it has been out for a few months. 😂
@Nexozi No, I said I don't care about release date, just price - it's always good to see progress, but it doesn't mean anything to me. I'm not sure how you read what I wrote and came to that conclusion.
I'll be keeping up with the news obviously, but I'm in the middle of a house move so it's hard to prioritise something that I won't have a usable space to set up in for a while.
Price will be $10,000 as Scalpers will snap them all up 😜
@theheadofabroom Well just as it reads:
1. I'm glad that this shows progress towards launch, but currently it doesn't mean anything to me.
2. I just need a price, release date doesn't mean much to me if it's the first half of next year, as I'm likely to wait until my birthday in July anyway.
For 1, u said this news article means nothing to you.
For 2, u said you want to know the price and the release date doesn't matter if its the first part of next year. Though does if its the second part of the year.
That's why I said:
However, if the release is before July u don't care about the release date.
Was just joking around.
Good luck with the house move!
Given today's news, i am less optimistic on the affordability of this. I thought it would retail for approx £399 to £450 - but now it feels like its going to be pushing £500+
She will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine.
The timing for this device couldn’t be worse…it’s going to be really interesting to see how it sells when it’s locked go the ps5. If I was Sony I’d be looking at ways to bring this to PC as well.
a grand for this and ps5. maybe 999
@Nexozi Ah, I think you might be missing the context of them having already announced that it'll release Early 2023. It probably would have been clearer if I'd spelled out that that's what the 'if' was referring to. My bad!
@Voltan not if the price is extortionate, no way
They should send Bryan from PSVR Without Parole there to test it.
Will be great to hear from people actually playing in it. Everything we have heard from devs has been glowing.
So excited to finally have a next gen machine to play with; flat window games have massively diminishing returns at this point, VR is fresh and just amazing to experience.
I'm so hyped to get this day 1!!!
Interested to hear impressions on this thingamabob!
I have the PSVR1 and Quest2 and while they're both good.. Inexpensive VR (in comparison to PCVR) needs to have move on from indie cartoon-world looking games.
(Disclaimer - PSVR has a number of realistic based visual games, but YMMV with the PS4).
I'm looking forward to seeing PC quality VR in a console!
Can't wait to hear what those lucky people think of it when they get to play it.
@zebric21 I only come here to read positive news. I've got nothing to say about PSVR2, other than I can't wait to see more previews, and eventually buy one for my kids! These sites are filled with negativity, which doesn't make sense for video games.
Hopefully they won't charge too much for the PSVR2. I'm gonna be shocked if it's more than $400.
If Im honest, its the least interesting title to be showing off.
I mean It will be a great game, but we all know exactly how it will play and look, as its gonna be more of the same as RE7.
I wish they were showing off Horizon.
