Deathloop launched as a PS5 console exclusive exactly one year ago, but it looks like that period is about up. Bethesda's time-looping FPS was always bound to hit other platforms eventually, and it looks like the time is almost here for Xbox players.
The game is beginning to show up on Xbox's storefront. Currently, it doesn't lead you anywhere, but clearly the title is destined for Xbox Series X and S in the very near future.
It's highly possible that Deathloop will launch as a Game Pass title once it does arrive, and that would make total sense. The game is already lined up to join PS Plus Extra on 20th September, which probably isn't a coincidence — we imagine Xbox fans will be able to join the fun on or very close to that same date.
It follows that Ghostwire: Tokyo will also hit other platforms in future, though it'll be at least a few more months before then. Have you played Deathloop yet? Let us know in the comments section below.

Deliberately didn't pick this up cause if I really enjoyed it then there's huge potential for the sequel to never release on PS, same with Ghostwire Tokyo
Ghostwire was cool but quite repetitive after a while. I feel like if they dropped the "open world that must be filled with hundreds of side missions, events, etc." formula and focused more on variability it would be great. Story and especially music were really good.
As for the Deathloop, looking forward to try it next week. I love the Dishonored series.
@Beerheadgamer82 I didn’t play it till months after it came out and absolutely loved it. I don’t think there will be a sequel with the way it ends but you never know. I’ve seen it as low as £7 on eBay which is crazy
It's not a game that interests me enough to buy it, but it's a game i'll gladly try on a subscription service. So i held off with it, knowing it would come to gamepass. And since it comes to ps plus as well i can now chose where to play it.
@Beerheadgamer82 skipping games over fears that you will like them and their sequels (if they will ever come to life) might miss PS sound insane to me.
Like "I won't eat ice-cream, because one day all cows might die and I won't be able to enjoy it anymore".
Why not enjoying the game, if it is available at the moment?
The more the merrier. Been wanting to play this for a while now. Hopefully Ghostwire isn’t too far behind.
@Tomato_Goose not trying to deny the games quality. The thing is though I've already put in a few hundred British pounds of my own money into many Bethesda titles for over a decade on PS and now most likely those sequels I won't be able to play. Now I don't know about you but I don't like supporting a game not knowing if I'll be supported or not with its future sequels. The list of potential sequels I'm not going to be able to play is a huge one and I didn't want to add to that list
Not sure why this game got so much hype, i put it down after like a hour or 2. Thought GhostWire was much superior of the 2 games
Deathloop is brill. Definitely the better of the two final Bethesda titles on Playstation. Hope Xbox owners enjoy it 👍
Definitely a one and done game in the sense that i dont feel it will get a sequel. Expect Microsoft will be wanting a new dishonored game next after that vampire thing arkane are developing
Is this really news? We already knew it was a timed year exclusive, so it was obvious it was coming to xbox after that.
@Tomato_Goose I think this is a very extreme example you’ve used compared to the op’s post.
Though I highly doubt those games would get sequels anyway, the thought process is justified for me if you only plan on having one platform.
Like for example, if you knew Santa Monica was being bought just months after release of God of War, and you’d already heard Cory say its two games to close the story. Would you play the first knowing you’d never play the second?
I think OP is justified in his decision.
@Beerheadgamer82
@Rmg0731 It does actually pick up after a few hours. I have to admit I didn't click on what was going on or how to play properly for a good few days. But when the penny dropped it was actually a decent game.
Well they did state that they would have at least 1yr exclusivity - which may mean they had 1yr at least before MS could say anything - hence the first ads appearing today - exactly 1 yr later.
If you stop MS from even being able to talk about it for a year, they either Shadow drop on the day catching people by surprise and not able to drum up hype or excitement. That's also not great for sales either - no pre-orders or people prepared to buy on release. I expect Ghostwire to have a similar deal too.
As for sequels, Many Bethesda games don't really follow on narratively. Fallout 3, New Vegas and 4 for example all start off with a 'new' protagonist in a new region with their own narrative, just with the same background and lore. Elder Scrolls too of course and as for Wolfenstein & Doom, they don't all follow a narrative storyline from game to game - having been 'rebooted' several times. Prey is another where the 2nd game has nothing in common with the first.
Its not like Uncharted, Horizon or Last of Us where the sequels pick up the story of the same characters to continue telling their story...
@Tomato_Goose Rage, Dishonored, Wolfenstein, DOOM, Evil Within are potential sequels I'll be missing out on of which I've already put many moneys into. I just didn't want to add to that list. Even if we get all those sequels or not I'm just a consumer here and have zero control over these things so I'm just doing the only thing I can do, trying to be smart with where I put my British pound coins. Nothing wrong with that
So it's suddenly a good game now deserving of its Metacritic score? 😏
@Beerheadgamer82
I don't understand your arguments? you pay for a game and play it. what does that have to do with sequels? If you buy a Ford and drive it for a few years, will you regret it if Ford stops making cars and you need to buy another brand next time? The solution to the problem is to buy the Xbox as well, then you can play your possible sequels, was it worth buying the earlier ones then? I don't get it!
@Lavalera Same boat. It will be interesting to see if it adds anything on Xbox. The PS5 version has pretty good Dual Sense support so it has a slight edge in theory. Unless they add something or improve performance on Xbox. Either way it will be available on PS++ on 20th and Game Pass likely tomorrow.
@Joabra01Swe can only just about afford a PS5 yet alone getting a Series X, Switch plus the subs they all come with. Imagine watching Terminator 1 knowing you'll never have access to ever view T2 unless you cough up another 500 for a new player or watching Alien knowing you'll never be able to watch Aliens. Like if I wanted to play Evil Within 3 that would cost me £500 makes no sense whatsoever especially when you can't afford it. Telling someone to cough up an extra £500 for a few games ain't an option for many gamers
Deathloop was brilliant and one of the most fun, original and cool IP’s I’ve played in a while. Ghostwire was fun as well, but got incredibly repetitive after a while. Deathloop definitely should not be missed - must play, IMHO.
@Joabra01Swe imagine spending 60 on a game getting to a cliffhanger baiting a sequel at the end of game but there's a good chance you'll never play the sequel unless you pay £500 ouch yh no thanks. I play many games looking forward to their sequels all the time. I don't just play one game in a series and just forget the rest, regardless if the continuation of those games is not the same in the sequel or not
@Jacko11 yeah agreed, very justified
@Smash41 hehehee
@Beerheadgamer82 The Series S exists, and it's half the stated £500.
If the Xbox is going to be your secondary console and used almost exclusively for exclusives, might as well get the cheaper one.
I'd be happy with the S as my primary console if I could get one with a disk drive (I'd need my xbox to have a drive since I still have a massive 360 collection that still plays on the console. It's not so much a problem on PS).
@Joabra01Swe they only want to play games on the platform that they have. If a game's sequel isn't going to be on that platform then they feel like it'll be a waste of time playing the game as they won't get to play the sequel. Not really hard to understand, everyone has their own preferences.
@Beerheadgamer82 I do feel like you'd be doing yourself a massive disservice on some games though. As someone mentioned earlier, not every game and its sequels are linked by a story. However, if the game has a sequel that continues on from the previous game then I can see why you do that.
@Beerheadgamer82 I get your not wanting to play cause of a supposed sequel, completely up to you ,but if there is a sequal chances are it will be on game pass ,you could save money and play it on phone /pc /tablet no need to buy a console
@Richnj having the Series S would still require the continued GamePass sub to go along with Premium Plus which does add up along with all the other bills and besides I'm not always happy with the negativity surrounding the S on nearly every release at 30fps and then not all S games getting a patch 6 or 12 months later for it to run 60fps, it would have to be the Series X if could afford it. I'd really like to check out Masterchief collection and Forza Horizon. It's just having the funds to have more than one console and the games they all come with is the problem and of course having the time to play all those multiple consoles and games. There's of course a lot to be happy with on PS5 and it was really my only option if I'm only able to afford one new console
@Beerheadgamer82 I don't think it would require Game Pass. You can just buy the individual games, and at heavily discounted prices if you are willing to wait.
But, if you did think that Game Pass is a must, they have the 'Friends and Family' pass being tested for release, so you and four of your friends could all split the cost. If the price is the expected £25ish price then you could spend around £5 a month for the service.
"the S on nearly every release at 30fps"
Are we talking multiplat titles again here?, because remember, every multiplat game can run like dogsh*t on the system, it's not an issue for you, since you'll play those on PS5. Your only concern is if the exclusives run well, (which I could be wrong) but as far as my memory serves, they do.
@theMEGAniggle a few years ago I started Borderlands 1 and 2 for the first time and they're not really needed to enjoy Borderlands 3 at all but at the time I couldn't imagine not playing the upcoming B3 while I was catching up on B1 and B2. I think the argument of a sequel not being important cause it doesn't have anything to do with its previous title is not a fair one. Dishonored 2 doesn't really have any continuation with D1 but I enjoyed D1 a lot so naturally I wanted to play its sequel at the time. We still as a gamer put a lot of time and money into these game series regardless if the sequel is a continuation or not and we look forward to these sequels regardless of none continuation of sequels
@Richnj I have often thought of getting a Series X much later on in maybe 2025 when a new Series X should be a lot cheaper and plus I might be in a more better position of being able to afford one further down the road. And yh waiting a little on Xbox store sales for these games would help a lot to catch up. A used Series X later on is always on option too but I'm a sucker for buying consoles new for peace of mind kinda thing
@Martsmall don't do gaming on phones lol even if phone gaming improves massively. Me having a PC would have to be a decent gaming PC set up or nothing at all which would be totally out of my price range. A tablet for gaming I just can't do it, it's just not how I game. I'm not totally giving up on getting a Series X, there's possible options later on that might happen. For right now though PS5 will more than do and look forward to for many gaming needs
@beerheadgamer82 afraid im as lost as everyone else.
thats like saying i wont play days gone, because there is no sequel. there isnt even sequels announced for deathloop etc.
really sorry but i cant understand your logic at all
@Beerheadgamer82 Well, I'm hoping that by 2025 that MS release the series 2s, and that was what I really held out for, but that also depends on them going the PC/phone route for hardware.
But yeah, waiting for hardware and software is a better route. Other than FOMO, there's zero reason to buy most things at launch. Deathloop on Xbox Series X in 2025 will be the same experience as Deathloop on PS5 today.
@stvevan it's so easy to understand though. I currently have a PS5 yes but don't currently Xbox and on this PS5 every new Bethesda game released from now on is in no way guaranteed to release on any PS console so why would I put any money behind these recent Bethesda games when it's most likely I won't get a chance to play any of its potential sequels on a PS console. Its not rocket science to understand any of what I've just said, it's common sense
@stvevan it's the same if PS just purchased Ubisoft and every new Assassins Creed game and many other Ubi games is now exclusive to PS and are not guaranteed to release on Xbox so you'll now have to pay over £500 to carry on with AC if you a fan of the series. This is just an example and comparison that PS has never done on this scale but you get what I mean
@beerheadgamer82 i only have a ps console. but yet i dont stop myself from buying a game that im interested in because it may not have a sequel, i dont enjoy a game less knowing i cant play sequel, id have still enjoyed valhalla the same as i did (using your example). said sequel may not follow on etc. sequel may suck.
its one of the strangest reasons ive heard tbh, but if its how you like to game you do you.
@Richnj true. Take GTA6 for example that's definitely gonna be a day one purchase for fomo cause it'll most likely be the talk of the town in the gaming world but theres many games we pay 60 for and then have regret 3 or 4 months later when it's half price like Far Cry 6 which stung me
@stvevan have zero issues doing me. So what happens if Deathloop does get a sequel exclusive to only Xbox you are now locked out of continuing and enjoying its sequel if you only currently game on a PS console and that's something I'm trying to currently avoid. I've enjoyed many Bethesda games over the past decade on PS knowing they're future sequels were coming to PS consoles but now that's changed and rightfully so I remain very cautious of where I put my wallet if future sequels ain't happening on my current console of choice. Nothing wrong or strange with my current approach to any of this. If anything I think I'm patting myself on the back for a very smart decision I've took. With a very longtime always existing big backlog of games I have you bet I'm gonna be cautious where my wallet goes. Like oh that games potential sequel will be supported but the other game most likely won't be so I'll go with that one instead. Actually I find it strange that you think my approach is strange. Maybe you don't mind missing out on potential sequels but I do
The game didn’t pick my interest too much at launch despite being an Arcane game, but I’m surely give it a try on Game Pass, since all I have to lose is a bit of time.
That’s probably a great thing because it gets hard sometimes to find a match when playing as Juliana- at least for me.
@Rmg0731
It's not really a game you can just casually play for an hour and get the whole jist of what it is going for. It really is something you need to spend at least 2 or 3 hours on learning the mechanics of before everything just clicks and it just becomes a total blast until the credits roll.
@Beerheadgamer82 someone mentioned the Bethesda titles. See Fallout, Doom, Elder Scrolls series. Each sequel is a completely self-contained story and setting.
I do hear you in terms of still wanting to play the first game regardless of how the second game is connected. All I'm saying is don't miss out on every game just because the sequel isn't going to be on your platform of choice. Sometimes the sequel sucks ass.
@CWill97 Will It have crossplay? I dont think so, It IS small Part of the game It still dont have crossplay with PC and Microsoft would have to pay for It, after all we know, thanks to Epic vs Apple, that PlayStation charges for crossplay and still demands part of the sales profit on other platforms to do It.
Wait. Why is this news on PS?
@Toypop budgets are often a limiting factor though. When I could barely even afford to buy a game, my mindset wasn't to explore games on different hardware but to enjoy all the games I could find on my console. I started to become a fanboy.
I could get into that but I'd be typing for days. But yeah not playing for the sake of the sequel maybe not being on that platform is a little much. Denying yourself from a good experience for what?
@Toypop I typed a reply, hit submit but it seems like it’s gone? I hope you saw that reply cos it’s a lot better than this one.
Basically I was just saying that my point about budget was more so about the way a limited budget often limits the scope of what the consumer wants. In my Case, I didn’t look at any other consoles (even though I could’ve sold mine or whatever). So yeah it’s not just about what you can afford but also what your mind allows.
@Tomato_Goose @Joabra01Swe @stvevan I don't think we can argue with the dude who doesn't want to subject himself to the pain of not being able to play a sequel. Not because his is a valid argument, or because ours is.
It's the old: is it better to feel love and potentially get hurt or to never have loved and not be hurt.
There is no right answer, or rather, there is only one right answer depending on the person you are.
Take care, dudes.
@Toypop I agree with and understand your point. However, you use free very loosely, it’s not always going to be free. Some regions have such poor pricing. Even in the UK it’s becoming ridiculous. What we pay for a £70 game is actually equivalent to $80 now.
If I bought a switch now and sold it in the future, it wouldn’t be free. The price I bought it for would still be more than what I sold it for, because it would age and it’s second hand and so on. So, where are you getting it being free from? Again, I get your point but call it what it is.
@Toypop
This only makes sense if you do it at the end of the gen. If you bought a switch or XSX today, you will lose money when you sell it (say £50). Furthermore, there’s no point of buying it today because the gen is still early, there aren’t any killer exclusives on Xbox yet. The only console you could make money on is PS5, because it’s so hard to get. A friend of mine was actually one of those ppl to buy at retail and resell at £1k.
Going back on topic however, yes to buying it at the end of the gen, it will be such little money you’re spending that you probably wouldn’t care, but it’s really not free. Say you bought xss at retail at £250 then you sold it second hand let’s be generous and say £200. Include monthly sub for gamepass 3 months at the standard sub, let’s say £30 total. Then a game or two that weren’t on game pass, let’s say £70. So you’re looking at £150 loss. Which is pretty good considering.
A family that struggles to pay bills will still struggle to pay bills if they had a console or not. Believe me. Of course a little pressure is lifted if they got rid of the console but they would still struggle.
With that being said though, I wouldn’t recommend everyone to do what you’re doing or what I did at the end of PS3 gen. I’d say owning two consoles is a stupid luxury, and one that is certainly not “free”, like you say it is. I’d say if done right, you’ll lose a hundred or so. That is something not everyone can afford to lose.
@Toypop feel like the last 6 paragraphs weren’t directed at me so I’m not replying to that.
You’d lose a lot more than £40 my friend. But let’s pretend that everyone is okay losing money on getting a second console (something that isn’t all that important).
Your reply is giving me a sense of you having a lot of privilege when it comes to money. Believe it or not, some people are poor and want to play games. These people save up and buy one console. Then they don’t plan to buy another one because they don’t want to waste more money on something that isn’t vital. It doesn’t mean they are being lazy or tribalist. It also doesn’t mean that they should forgo gaming all together because £40 means something to them. It does mean that they shouldn’t look to buy another console.
Furthermore, not playing a game because of where the sequel may or may not end up is something we moved past. We established it was limiting and not a good idea, just like this convo.
