Sony’s indies evangelist Shuhei Yoshida has said the company is always looking at ways to add to and expand the catalogue of PS Plus Extra, as the more expensive tier continues to grow following its launch earlier in the year. The executive explained that the platform holder looked at the library of content available in its defunct subscription PS Now, and worked to incorporate new games it could “whole-heartedly” recommend.
This, according to Yoshida, includes approximately 100 indie games – with more to come. “There are great, great indie games available when you go up from PS Plus Essential to PS Plus Extra,” he exclaimed, and you can corroborate by referring to our All PS Plus Games list. “PS Plus Extra is really great value for money. We are always looking at adding or refreshing the catalogue so that people can discover new titles or games they never got a chance to play.”
Yoshida also touched upon PS Plus Premium, explaining it’s more about cloud streaming and classic games. He was particularly impressed to see Ape Escape, a PS1 game he served as the producer on, being among those promoted for the service’s launch. But when asked specifically about Stray, and whether more indie games would release directly into Sony’s subscription, he explained that the firm is more focused on generating long-tail revenue for titles.

So no triple A games day one and no indies day one either....
that's a lie what great games no day one releases so what are Sony talking about people are still spending 70 dollars plus for new release. And sony keep adding junk on their extra and premium services
And yet PS Plus Premium is the tier that they put the least effort in. It's crazy to me to think that they put more effort into Extra, especially when premium is the most expensive tier.
@DualWielding good quality can not always be cheap or for free. Look at the games on game pass…
So putting Stray day one was just a one time thing
more like always looking to copy xbox and do it worse .
at least trophies are cooler than achievements i guess ?
@Reeneman Gampass Plague Tale Requiem, all Persona Remasters, MLB the Show, Eyuden Chronicles, Shredder's Revenge, Disney Dreamlight Valley... Those are all games am interested on that were or are gonna be offered day one on gamepass... While PS+ has only offered Stray day one and according to this interview we shouldn't be expecting more... I feel bad for Sony cuz I do think Microsoft is engaging on predatory pricing but if they don't at least try to offer quality games day one on occasion I'm gonna have to consider switching consoles next generation... And I bet I'm not the only one

Junk? Like Deathloop, Returnal, Demon's Souls, Stray, Outer Wilds, Chicory, AC: Valhalla, Ghost of Tsushima, Yakuza, FF7R:I, God of War, Hollow Knight, Sly Collection??? (and that's just off the top of my head)
Should've gone to Specsavers bro, plenty of bangers on the service.
@DualWielding if it’s only about cheap prices then do the switch to Xbox, parobably apple arcae would be something as well for you in this case.
It’s already visible that MS can not hold up with quality the whole time. Sure some games are good and it’s very useful for some indie titles but there isn’t a single game on Xbox since years that can match games like Last of us, Horizon … you know the names.
Same with Netflix and all these services. There is cool stuff but it can’t match the quality of large productions for the cinema.
Ms can only be successful with price increases or get nearly every second Gamer as subscriber on this service.
I can understand they can't compete with gamepass and release AAA titles day 1 on their service. But a little more love for ps1, ps2 titles goes a long way, and make ps3 titles downloadable already. I'm not streaming ps3 titles sub 30fps lol
@Amusei another one who doesn't understand why ps3 games cannot be downloaded.

This is the complete opposite of what we all want to hear.
Still, for now Extra is stupidly good value.
Edit: by long tail revenue i thought he meant recurring revenue through Microtransactions. Seems not though, so all good.
@DualWielding
What’s all this about day 1? Most of us have families and jobs and are several years behind in releases. Please don’t ask for games day one! that will only increase the price for no benefit, except for the kids who are all caught up with every game already.
@OMGitsLiamT If they can emulate on pc, they can emulate on ps5. It's different hardware, sure it's hard, but if they really want too, they can pull it off.
@Amusei they have trouble emulating PS1&2 games as it is. And the emulation on PC isn't that great is it for PS3. Hopefully one day, but if I was you, assume you'll be living in a world where you're streaming PS3 games for the foreseeable
Let's see The Forgotten City, Alan Wake Remastered, The Quarry and The Devil in Me!
@Reeneman
Game Pass has more games from Opencritic's 2022 Hall of Fame than PS Plus Extra does. Not sure what size of rock you gotta live under to get the impression that Game Pass doesn't have good games.
@OMGitsLiamT Aye I'm not expecting anything, it would just be really cool to me and many others. I'm no tech wizz but a man can hope. Have a good one 🙏
Come on guys, stop this gamepass comparison nonsence. Just count the big titles here and those there. Extra is full of cool AAA games added and currently having. I was going to buy Deathloop soon I am lovin it (no, not mcshit fan )
Dantes Inferno.
Listen, if, just very simply, if, you get through all the licensing, (not very simple I know) you could just re-release. Just re-release what's already been done. With better graphics. We will still play. Not only for nostalgic purposes, but to see a revamp.
@Momoghal786 junk? I'll give you the Premium but Extra has been nothing short of outstanding value.
It's actually insane how laughable the offerings are on the Premium tier. Not nearly enough content rotation for PS1,2,PSP, & PS3 stuff. Game Trials also aren't being added fast enough. Those are the TWO selling points for the most expensive tier and they can't even hit those?
Defo bumping down to Extra until Sony realizes that people who paid for the most expensive tier actually want as much content rotation as the cheaper ones.
@themightyant Its not junk but most have all them games already on current consoles. What their meaning is ok we had all these other games on PS now, which some are grest, or they were able to buy them on PS4 already. What the players want are the things that are hard to get. I can pick up siphon filter and ape escape and sly cooper on my ps 1 and 2 pretty cheap and easy. Studios are going to beat Sony to the remakes, rrmasters and rereleases, way before they get a back catalog players want. Honestly I would want the original to play on any device besides a phone or tablet myself. But so far they just keep bringing things like I said, most already have, was on plus already, or just not worth wasting space on, or using you bandwith for. I could name 2k from their back library I would love to play again, but at the moment they cost a small fortune or you can only attempt to play on some crappy emulation.
@acdramon Thats me too, I can't stream anything that is good, nothing floating my boat on classics that I can't play on my PS1, ps2 or ps3 except a few a can't get on ps3 and vita thats so rare that most good copies good from 300 up. I will say they have did good with trials with some titles, a few so far you didn't get enough gameplay to make a descision. So extra is about alright but just barely worth it, and more than likely you will be losing more good games than what gets put on the platform. Ending up just like Now, they need to find a gamer that likes every genre to help pick the titles they add, because I look at these staff picks every month and think who in the heck is picking these, some hermit old cat lady thats extremely feminist.
@Paultall I completely agree Premium has been disappointing. They seem to be taking the Nintendo approach of drip feeding classic content. Which I do also understand to a degree, else people will complain nothing new is added... they can't win, but could do better, and have a middle ground.
And yes a few may already have many of these games already which is where Day 1 content would be beneficial, but most won't. But there is no doubting Extra has had quality. I was only responding to them calling it 'junk', it REALLY isn't, and that sort of hyperbole is just unhelpful.
I was like nah, basic PS+ is enough for me. But I took the offer to upgrade to Extra during summer for the rest of the year for 19€ and it's nice. Played few of the games I was waiting for the sale or wouldn't buy because I thought I wouldn't enjoy them. So the value is good. And I don't have to sell the games afterwards.
I’ve been really pleased with PS+ Extra, even considering most of the games on it I already own and/or played. And even though I don’t play many games, it doesn’t take much for the service to pay for itself. Like maybe playing 2-3 games you were interested in. I wasn’t particularly a believer before but I upgraded for around $20 and after playing one game I feel mostly satisfied.
I’m still going to buy games which I know won’t be on the service for a while (or ever), mind you. Picked up Elden Ring, Dark Souls Remastered, and Life is Strange True Colors recently, for example.
It does make one reluctant to buy certain games though. Some games you can just tell are struggling financially and are prime targets to drop on the service. The Quarry and Ghostwire Tokyo come to mind. Probably a matter of time for those.
